We had such a great time staying here. We booked the very quirky and very funky Gypsy Caravan as something totally different the first night. It's tiny, and fun, and an experience! Exactly what we hoped for. The best hotel manager we have encountered, Kym (you rock!) took great care of us, fresh baked cookies, a restaurant booking at the local Tapas bar and a recommendation to the cinema to see the film on the local Fjordlands NP (do recommend) We wanted to stay another night and chose the amazing Train carriage, which was heaps of fun and quite spacious and comfortable. We can only say thank you Kym :-) We had such a great time and have told everyone about the incredible service, lovely food and care that you put into this place. Cheers Matt and Liz

Te Anau Lodge is a most quirky & interesting place to stay, far better than another forgettable motel room. It was originally a convent which was relocated to Te Anau. It is located a 5 minute drive from the town centre & occupies a large area lawn & gardens. Kym the manager was friendly & helpful from the start with making dinner bookings & general information. We loved the communal use of the Library-Lounge with free tea, coffee, wine & beer available. A continental or cooked breakfast is included in the dining room. A most enjoyable stay.

A complete antidote to staying in hotels where you wake up in the same place . Comfortable, quirky , memorable . We were in the Mother superiors room , I loved the ecclesiastical knick knacks . A short easy drive to the town centre for dinner . The staff and manager are lovely really helpful with local tips etc . Breakfast was the only slight issue with not really enough seats if all rooms are taken and most guests come for breakfast at the same time . Thats certainly an issue that needs to be sorted out . We loved the library lounge with great views and free beer and wine , how good is that .

Staff are very helpful! Kym booked some of our excursions and made recommendations on where to take small hikes. Feel like I’ve made a new friend. The rooms are clean and comfortable, though a bit small. We enjoyed spending time in the evening in the library, reading, meeting other guests, and enjoying tea/coffee and delicious homemade treats. Breakfast is homemade and very good!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Te Anau Lodge primarily because the manager, Kim, was such a welcoming host. She had great suggestions like the lake to lake bike trail, good restaurants and other activities. The buffet breakfast was the same every morning so on the fourth morning she offered to cook us something different. We felt like we were staying at a friend's home. The library in the lodge provides complimentary beer and wine and an opportunity to meet and chat with other guests. We highly recommend the lodge.

What a quaint facility. Housed in a former convent, there are eight rooms in the main building and assorted additional rooms in other structures on the property. The breakfasts were served in what had formerly been the convent's chapel. One night we stayed in a railcar that had been outfitted as a bedroom,. It was lot's of fun although don't expect a four star bathroom in an aged railcar. Most importantly, Nick the front desk clerk, manager, housekeeper, breakfast server, and bellman was fantastic. Every query was responded to with accurate information. Every request was fulfilled with attention to detail. If every hotel had someone like Nick, people would never complain about service.

We were. in the gypsy caravan, it was cosy and the website was accurate in terms of setting our expectations, especially in terms of our height! Bed was really comfy and shower, although small was powerful. Setting was lovely. Food supplied in the caravan was exceptional for a continental breakfast. Staff were friendly and very helpful.
