Popped in for lunch on a Monday, the staff were warm and welcoming the pub was beautifully fresh and clean with beautiful window boxes freshly planted. Food was generous and good value along with being delicious. We had burger and the BLT with chips, Will definitely return.

Great stay at the Royal Oak in Tetbury. After reading a couple of poor reviews we still opted to stay here due to the position of the pub being a short walk outside of the main town with it's own onsite free parking. Because we wanted a walk-in shower we were allocated Room No: 1 in the courtyard - a room which had been given the poor reviews. The room was perfectly acceptable, warm, fair sized and spotlessely clean with a large comfortable bed. More importantly there was no smell from drains as had been previously reported. If we had any comment to make it would be that there is no wardrobe but there's plenty of drawer space enough for a 3 or 4 night stay. So, not biggie. A shout out for lovely Sharry and staff who made us feel so welcome and thanks to Chef for the brilliant breakfasts and also probably one of the best burgers we've ever had. Thanks too to Danny (Ace quizmaster and DJ) who gave us recommendations for the Indian restaurants in the area. All in all then a great few days in the Cotswolds and of course we would stay again.

A lovely overnight stay with my friend. It was a birthday celebration. We had the Garden Room which was spacious, modern and extremely clean, beautifully furnished and a great bathroom/shower. We ate in the restaurant and the food was great, I had the Cajun Chicken Burger and my friend had the Beefburger, and we shared the fried Apple Tart, delicious. The chef also added a Birthday Candle!. The Royal Oak is a proper pub with a very welcoming ambience. The locals and other guests that were there, created a lovely warm atmosphere. All the staff were attentive and nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was equally good, I had Eggs Royale and my friend had a full English. Our little dog accompanied us, and she received a sausage! All in all, a lovely stay and would highly recommend. Thanks to The Royal Oak Team (TROT).

We went for Sunday lunch and sadly this experience is indicative of the times we are now in .. it’s called less quality .. or can’t be bothered .. or it’s ok they won’t notice .. or better still how to loose custom!! I’ve had in the past Sunday lunch that was really good and I hadn’t been for a while and as per my prediction it was not good at all .. claggy overdone beef .. tasteless veg.. tasteless everything really .. such a shame .. I suggest the chef tastes his dishes before he sends them out .. I shan’t return and will be sure to tell people not to waste their hard earnt money …

We had a family reunion at the Royal Oak this week. We hired Acorn House(just a cross the road from the pub) and two rooms at the pub. 10 of us altogether. We were 4 couples and 2 singles. To say we had a great time is an understatement! Every single person on the staff was so helpful and friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. We all had breakfast upstairs in the private dining room at the pub. Great range of choices, all well cooked. We didn’t eat there in the evening because one night was a Tuesday when they don’t do evening meals. On the Wednesday night The Cotswold Chef, Guido, came and cooked for us. Both evenings were great with all 10 of us gathered around the large square oak table in the dining room of Acorn House. The house is beautifully presented, very clean and comfortable with quality fittings. An especial thank you to Neil for all his care and attention to make sure we had everything we needed, and to Sharry for all her patience getting the details for our visit set up.

Would we stay there again? No. Our room (number 1) was tiny and smelt really badly of drains. We told the cleaner who had noticed the issue herself (hard not to!) and she promised to sort it but when we came back 10 hours later it still stank. At this point it was 11pm so nothing we could do and there was no one around to ask. The smell kept us awake all night and we couldn’t wait to get out of the room for breakfast, but unfortunately we then had another problem. They were out of granary bread for the husband’s scrambled eggs on toast so we had to provide our own. Luckily we had some bread in the car. These things happen I guess but there was no apology and a bit of a take it or leave it approach. My Eggs Benedict was not very good - tasteless muffin and the sauce tasted like it had come from a large catering pack. We raised the matter of the drain with the receptionist but he didn’t apologise - just a “thanks for letting me know” - and no suggestion they give us a discount for the issue. There was just no sincerity or any attempt to engage with us as the customers. Can’t believe we spent £160 on this experience. Certainly isn’t one we will repeat or would recommend to others!

Ten of our Walking Group decided to have lunch at this lovely and historic Pub after the walk. We hadn’t booked and just took a chance on tables being available. Staff were lovely and welcoming and a ‘can do’ attitude was definitely in force. My wife had an excellent soup and I settled for an equally good BLT with fries 10/10 score. Everyone was served quickly and efficiently and checked that all was ok, which it certainly was. Free car parking at the Old Railway Station is available nearby. Food prices were pretty good and a high quality level was on offer. Thanks for coping so well with an unexpected group, we all left well satisfied.

We met with 11 family members for a 12 p clock quick light meal where my niece and disabled brother were staying, before heading off to nearby Westonbirt having travelled from different parts of the country. My niece had given our preorders as requested. 2 people were quite late but we were happy to start as they only ordered sandwiches. Sandwiches were thrown together with no butter or spread. We were squashed in the corner of the pub possibly because of wheelchair access. Over 2 hours later most of what we ordered arrived slowly one plate at a time. Several orders were not correct, arrived twice or not at all. No one seemed to take charge to sort out the shambles. When the bill arrived there were items we hadn't had and a service charge we decided not to pay and what we had was very poor value for money. It was too late then to go to Westonbirt.

Stayed over weekend as attending a nearby wedding. Room was ready when we arrived at 12.30pm which was great as we had to change. And a lovely warm welcome and shown to our room, Very informative. Room was lovely and clean, beautiful decor. Husband said the shower was one of the best he'd used! Underfloor heating in the bathroom was a lovely touch on the stone floor. Pillows were very uncomfortable though. Woke with bad neck ache. Room noise very quiet, couldn't hear the road or any punters from the pub. Breakfast included served in the pub the following morning, service slightly slow and scrambled eggs were slightly black. But did the job to set us on our way home. The waitress was lovely, great customer service. Only thing i would say was the room price of £135 was very pricey. I'd say £75/£85 would have been more reasonable. This is the only reason the rating was a 3/5.
