You get a direct view of the Opera House, but if you don't have a car, getting there involves several steep hills. The hotel facilities are excellent overall, and breakfast is good. The staff are warm and polite. The Opera House and Harbour Bridge are within walking distance.

We requested higher-level rooms but were given Level 5. That was fine, but unfortunately the milk provided in our room was spoiled. The management was very disappointing. One staff member told us something was possible, but immediately after we checked out, another staff member said it wasn’t. There was no consistency or clear communication at all. There was no welcome drink or any form of hospitality just spoiled milk in the room, which honestly says a lot…After 9pm, there was literally nothing to do, just a ghost hotel. The original price of the room is $370, but for this price a night, we definitely did not receive service that matched the price. It is honestly a one-star Temu version of a Shangri-La. We found out we could have used that $370 to rent an entire house on Airbnb instead of staying at what is supposed to be a five-star hotel. Check airbnb website, you will find better stay with the money you pay for this hotel. This is an old, cramped hotel that feels like it’s scamming people under the label of a so-called five-star experience.

Booking this hotel during the off-season was a great experience. There was a Chinese gentleman at the front desk who upgraded us to a fantastic room for free. Both the hotel guests and the service made us feel like we were in a high-end establishment, and the room view was also excellent.

The Shangri-La Hotel has a great location, right around the CBD, making it convenient for getting around and finding food. I especially want to commend Jocelyn; she was incredibly warm and thoughtful. We arrived at the hotel a little after 9 AM, and she offered us an upgraded room for a small fee. Not only did it have a great view, but we could check in immediately. For us, tired from our journey, it was a real godsend.

This room type is truly beautiful, and it comes with executive lounge access. The breakfast was also good, and the service during my stay was excellent. Every time I left, the room was promptly cleaned, and bottled water was provided infinitely, so I didn't need to buy any separately. I'll definitely stay here again next time.

From our room, we had a stunning view of the Sydney Opera House, which was beautiful both during the day and at sunset. We could enjoy it peacefully from inside, or simply step out and walk five minutes to the harbor for an even closer look. It was incredibly convenient.

This has to be the worst Shangri-La I've ever stayed at for this price point, and arguably the worst hotel overall – no competition. 1. First off, the facilities are old, the room is tiny, and there's a mirror directly facing the bed. The view outside the window is also quite unremarkable. 2. The service is practically non-existent. Neither the bedside phone nor the desk phone could connect to the front desk. I stayed for three nights, and there were no welcome fruits or services upon check-in. For the following two nights, the room wasn't cleaned, bath towels weren't replaced, drinking water wasn't refilled, and shower gel wasn't checked or replenished. I had to get everything myself by calling the hotel service line through Trip.com or going down to the ground floor reception. It's truly outrageous. 3. The hotel's location isn't as convenient as other nearby hotels. You have to climb a steep hill to get to it. The hotel next door is on flat ground near Circular Quay, and I can't imagine how convenient the walk is from there. I honestly don't understand who is marketing this Shangri-La. Its view doesn't compare to the Four Seasons next door, and its value for money is worse than the Hilton. Plus, this price doesn't even include breakfast. I really don't understand the appeal of this hotel. I've never written such a detailed review because a hotel was so bad. I hope the hotel seriously improves. At this price, the service and facilities are truly uncompetitive. If things continue this way, they'll just keep disappointing one guest after another.

I booked this room purely for the views and to explore the Darling Harbour area. The location is about a 10-minute walk from Circular Quay, and it's a bit tiring with some uphill and downhill sections. It's not as convenient as the Four Seasons, but it's right next door, so there isn't a huge difference. The hotel decor is a bit dated, but fortunately, the service is great, and the front desk staff are very welcoming. The in-room dining options are quite palatable for Chinese tastes.

Location is good, no doubt. However, the management need more improvement. We arrived 3:30 on the day check in and was told both room not ready. We wait for 30 mins to assess one room only. More worse, we didn’t go for breakfast but was charged in the invoice. Very bad experience in the heart of Sydney CBD.

we had an amazing time! the service was impeccable and the opera house view was much better than i thought - you can see the opera house and the ferries come and going and even fireworks at night. the breakfast could improve and is not worth $52 pp. but overall, we had an amazing time and we will definitely be returning.

This was the first booking I made for this trip and the last hotel I checked into. I booked it even before leaving home. Shangri-La's standards are quite high and reliable. The location is excellent, just a few hundred meters' walk from the Harbour Bridge, Circular Quay, and Barangaroo Park. Sydney Opera House is just past Circular Quay. They even upgraded my room, thank you! The hotel's pre-authorization process is standard: the final charge and refund are processed under the original pre-authorization. There's no need for additional steps.
