Avatel Hotel is located in Jelutong area which there is a bit far from Georgetown city centre. Upon check in, we were asked to pay RM6 for government imposed tax. Then we were asked to pay RM50 of deposit which will be refunded during check out. There is a bus stop just right in front of the hotel. There are also an Indian restaurant and a Chinese Dim Sum restaurant right next to the hotel. I can walk to the nearest food court within 5 minutes and a local morning market within 10 minutes. There are 2 banks nearby which I can withdraw some money. The hotel swimming pool is located at 5th floor with a breathtaking view. The hotel did not provide mineral water bottle but they have a water dispenser at the lobby. All other amenities were not provided except 2 toothbrush and refillable 2 in 1 hair & body shampoo were available in the bathroom. There was also a minibar inside the room. The downside of this hotel are, there was lots of ants on the hotel room table when I put my food there, there were lots of ants came out and crawled on my food. After, I wiped off those ants, more ants came out from behind the mirror on the wall. The hotel room TV remote control was not found upon check in. After I informed front desk, the staff have tried many remote controls on our room TV and they spent more than half hour to get it fix. The housekeeping also took longer time to help us clean our room. We went out for breakfast and sight seeing and returned to our room but the room had yet to be cleaned. It ended up, we rested in our room and waited for housekeeping to clean our room with us being in the room. There is staircase leading to the hotel lobby, during my check out it was raining heavily, and I have to carry my own luggages under the rain to walk down the staircase in order to get into Grab car. It is very inconvenient and dangerous to hotel guest to walk down the slippery staircase during heavy rain.
