I really wanted to love the Skye Hotel & Residences (BW Signature Collection), as the concept of the property is fantastic. Having a spacious apartment-style layout with a full kitchenette and fridge is a brilliant amenity for travelers. Unfortunately, the execution and cleanliness at this franchised location fall shockingly short of basic hospitality standards.
Prior to my visit , I tried reaching the property three separate times via email, repeated calls, and Trip.com messages to modify my booking and wasn't able to get in touch with anyone.
I never received a response via email and online chay either . I finally got through to the front desk on my 8th or 9th call.
Upon checking in, the room was missing furniture shown in the online photos, the bathroom mirror was smeared, and there were visible stains on the oven, stovetop, and bed skirt. Most alarmingly, there were at least 7 or so fruit flies in the room, and the floors were so intensely filthy that walking barefoot for just a few minutes turned the bottoms of my feet pitch black.
I have stayed in countless 4 -5 star hotels - this one said 4-star hotel on Google ( I have stayed in Elements hotel - across the street from Toronto Pearson for a last minute / same-day booking months ago. It was a 3-star hotel, so I didn't expect much - but the customer service was impeccable. I hadn't packed slippers then either - but my feet were CLEAN and they had a kitchenette as well, and everything was SPOTLESS.)
I called the front desk and was offered a different room, but seeing a line downstairs and having zero confidence the next room would be any better, I opted to stay put and actually cleaned the floor myself using shower gel and paper towels (which still came up visibly black). Having worked in the hotel industry, I always try to give grace to hardworking staff, but this crosses the line into a severe hygiene issue. I would be worried for any young family checking in with a toddler crawling on those floors.
Instead of immediately leaving a negative review, I took the time to write a detailed, private email to Best Western corporate leadership (Ticket 72039) because I wanted to see the property reach its full potential.
Customer service initially replied asking for my contact information to forward to upper management. I provided everything they asked for, and I have yet to receive a response (it has been 10 days so far).
I have a full video documentation of the cleanliness issues, which you can see here: ************************************************************************.
It is quite disappointing to see a brand talk about welcoming guests, only to neglect basic cleanliness and completely disregard guest feedback when serious health and safety issues are brought to their attention privately.
I highly recommend booking elsewhere until management decides to take their property's hygiene and customer care seriously.
