Las Glorias

Myself and three friends stayed at Hotel Las Glorias for a week at the end of April 2023. It was a last minute booking (through ***********). Due to our late planning, it was just about the only place available in the area we wanted. Reviews were mixed but with few other options available, we took the plunge. The hotel itself was ok but very noisy at night (earplugs required!). Rooms were fine, beds were made every day and changed three times during our stay so in that respect, no complaints. Most of the negative reviews revolved around payment and to that end, we had the same problem. The proprieter clearly wanted to avoid paying the *********** fees and wanted us to cancel our booking with them and pay him directly. After a lot of insistence on his part, we agreed to pay him in this way using his own card terminal. His main reason for doing it this way was to bypass his *********** fees (which he readily admitted to) but said he would also charge us less for paying him directly. My three friends paid exactly the same as they would've through *********** but I was in fact, charged £18 more! I rang my card provider on my return but there was nothing they could do in this instance because the amount had been taken in Sterling, not Euros (apparently, the proprieter could set exchange rates on his card terminal!) My advice would be to check that *********** have taken your money before travelling (the proprieter was adamant he hadn't received the money prior to our arrival), that should avoid any payment shenanigans. Another tip, eat in the restaurant next door, the Estrella. The food at Las Glorias was mediocre and expensive. The fixed menu at Estrella was 12 euros for three courses (plenty to choose from) including drink, fabulous. A smashing bar owner too (not grumpy at all!). Our stay at Las Glorias was generally acceptable but there's plenty of room for improvment, not least the payment problems. That said, now we know the "rules" at Las Glorias, we would return.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Las Glorias. The friendly and helpful staff indicated that very few English people stayed there, but they welcomed us and did everything possible to make our stay a perfect one. We would definitely stay at this very traditional Spanish hotel again. Thank you.
