Pardon my French. We have reached Tournus on our boat journey and had a restaurant recommended to us by the tourist information office. Le rempart. Looks to be a beautiful setting associated with a large hotel. After waiting quite a while for entree, (waiters seemed to realise we hadn’t been served)? And then again waiting for main course I took the opportunity to go to the bathroom. Beginning to ask where the bathroom was I was interrupted with “no speak English” by a young waitress. I will admit to very limited French skills but I would think “toilette” and “WC” is fairly universal. On another attempt I was directed abruptly with “door” and a pointed finger. People often speak of French being rude but I have never experienced rudeness In many visit to various parts of France. I have found everyone, especially those In hospitality, to be very helpful and friendly. Perhaps just a bad night for this particular waitress. In any case my meal had finally arrived!! It was an average meal for the price. As it was getting quite late and our plates we’re finally cleared we decided not to stay for desert and asked for the bill. It didn’t arrive so we went to the counter to presented with an incorrect bill. charged for a three course menu instead of 2 courses. Happily speaking English to accept my payment. Tournus is a beautiful village with many fine restaurants. If we were to return we will find one.

Great location just off the motorway. Comfortable quiet rooms, good breakfast. Currently undergoing some kitchen/ restaurant refurbishment but they still did good bar dinner. Normally restaurant is excellent and deservedly popular. Easy to park (car park just opposite hotel).

An amazing good restaurant in ‘open air’ with a pleasant crew! However the hotel accommodation is disappointing, our grown-ups had to ‘sleep’ on a poor sofa, the shower had no wall mount and the watertemperature was extreme hot or extreme cold, unfortunatedly! Most of our surprise was the irritation of the lady behind the desk reception; she gave us, more than once, the feeling of just being stupid tourists who don’t know to find the room (2 elevators needed) or the right way to open the gate before the parking place. Excusez-nous, madame!
Response from Property: Dear guests, Thank you for choosing our hotel for our stay in Tournus. We are delighted to have met your expectations at the restaurant. We are very sorry that your stay at the hotel didn't met your expectations and we take note of your comments. The sofa in the room is a real bed for children under 12 yo. Next time, I advice you to book a premium room. We are looking forward to welcoming you again for a better experience at the hotel, Warm regards, Hôtel Le Rempart ***

Following a nightmare journey arriving at 22.30 instead of 16.30 the staff were fantastic and let us enjoy a beer and a wine before retiring. Parking has been updated, nicely landscaped and secure .A lovely room too. We missed dinner sadly but breakfast was superb!

Excellent hotel with high quality decor and facilities. Superb restaurant with friendly and attentive staff, and a nice pub too. Only three stars? Definitely worth more! A good base point for visiting more of south Burgundy.

I chose this Hotel because Tournus was just over half way to our final destination (the French Alps). Such a wonderful discovery, we would go back and stay longer! Fantastic restaurant 😋

We booked this hotel an hour before arriving on our journey back to Rotterdam port from Spain, the staff were all so lovely and helpful. We had 2 rooms, both lovely and clean and spacious we were road side with a lovely view and the room was soundproofed so we didn’t hear any noise from the road. Lovely toiletries in the bathroom and the separate toilet was quaint. The hotel had a secure car park opposite to the hotel which was great. We dined in the brasserie which was a beautiful setting and the food was lovely. We could take our dog in to the bar, dinning room and to breakfast which was great as he’s only young and a bit nervous. All really enjoyed it and we would definitely stay there again.

A very good hotel where we have stayed several times for a night on our trip to Spain. The rooms are fine and the staff is very helpful. The restaurant is of very good quality. We will definitely come back here.

Great room - more like a suite and very quiet. The hotel is situated in a beautiful mediaeval town which is well worth exploring. We only stayed one night and ate in the restaurant and drank in the bar. The service was not great; rather cold and unengaging staff who did not seem to want to serve (in stark contrast to our other French experiences on a two-week road trip). Had a steak in the restaurant which was decidedly average. There is a car park opposite the hotel but we were not able to find it and parked elsewhere. Why don't hotels explain where their parking is on their ******* entry?

Everything was "very good". My suite was perfect and it was at the back. I am not sure I would want a room over the main road. The breakfast was also very good.. Reviews must be 200 characters apparently but I have nothing more to say !

Booked this hotel after reading good reviews. However the reviews do not give justice to this hotel. It is much better than it's website, and reviews, suggest. From front desk, to the bedroom, to the bar, to the parking - all perfect. Easy walking distance into Tournous. We had a road facing room, and did NOT hear the traffic at night.

I stayed twice in the last week. The first stay was very comfortable in a renovated room. I decided to stay again on the way back to Paris - big mistake. It was raining and I was tired when I booked a "traditional" room. This apparently means a room not changed since the 1970s - and walking through a dangerous, dark construction zone with missing ceiling tiles, handing wires and exposed electrical outlets. The room was terrible - awful lighting, stained furniture, no proper shower are just part of it. I asked to change rooms - the difference on agoda was $8 and on the website was EUR 10. She said it would be EUR 49. I asked her to check if something else was possible - she called rhe manager and he replied EUR 52! The room had no air circulation and was stuffy - I opened a window and was woken several times by loud music and trucks. In addition the hotel is deceptive about restaurant hours. It is posted until 10:00 PM. I arrived at 9:15 PM and they refused to serve anything other than a meat and cheese platter. I went to dinner around the corner to Bouchon de Bourgogne (Hotel de Greuze) and they were so welcoming unlike the lazy kitchen staff at Le Rempart. When I went to pay the city tax on Sunday morning there was no manager on site. The receptionist tried calling but no response. I was not surprised. Between the construction zone and no management availavle one has to question the commitment to safety. A monument to deception here. I recommend going to a proper hotel like the Hotel de Greuze or a larger town.

Response from Property: Dear NYCBizTraveler, We are sorry that your second stay in a traditionnal room was not to your liking. As it is explained, these room are indeed not renovated. The last renovation was in 2016, 6 years ago, in a retro style. When you made your booking, you saw the pictures of the room you were choosing and the price was lower than the price of a confort room. Moreover you booked this room with a special promotionnal rate. This explains why the receptionnist was not able to change your room for 10€ (which is the difference between the two rooms on a public rate of reference). To go to your room, you need to take a second elevator but you didn't have to go through this "construction zone" where the renovation were almost done. Regarding the restaurant, the receptionnist warned you by phone that the restaurant was fully booked. We could only serve you our meat and cheese platter from the Pub which is made with home-made charcuterie and local cheese. Regarding the management, we are on site everyday, we were just not available at the moment but we were just 10 minutes later. We are sorry that we couldn't reach you after your check-out. During your next stay in Tournus, we would be delighted to meet you. Don't hesitate to call us to make an appointment. We would be happy to welcome you back and to demonstrate our profesionnalism, Kind regards, Léa, Executive Assistant, Hôtel Le Rempart ***
