We needed a hotel, north of Turin, close to a motorway, but special enough for a wedding anniversary. Villa Matilde could not have been better. Ours was a deluxe room with a private balcony large and high enough for a small group to enjoy a bottle of bubbly whilst over looking the courtyard, the surrounding hills and the ancient roofs of the nearby town. The staff could not have been more helpful, from shifting chairs for the aforementioned drinks or helping us arrange parking for cars and trailers (hint: don't try to drive a trailer up to the hotel, there's much more room lower down). The food was excellent and very representative of local specialities and we enjoyed it in the most charming covered courtyard. The reception rooms in the main building are stunning. Our friends had taken over a cancelled booking and were in a much inferior room in the modern annex at the back of the property. If you're after a special room it's worth contacting the ever so helpful general manager Marzia Giussani. She helped make ours a most memorable wedding anniversary.
