"If you have a shellfish allergy, be careful when ordering the Nasi Goreng. The menu does not mention that it contains shrimp. Unfortunately, I only discovered this after my meal was served. I was still expected to pay for the Nasi Goreng, even though the shrimp were not listed on the menu. The pool filter runs all day and is extremely noisy. You can even hear it from your room. On the positive side, the pool staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, and the hotel itself is beautiful."

"Feels completely hidden in the jungle as you head off the main road down a single track road through trees. This is a calm oasis amongst Jack Fruit trees. The rooms are of high standard and extremely well presented. We stayed 2 nights while exploring the local National Park and elephant transit. We had half board which I would say is standard given it feels remote. The food is lovely and you are given a choice of approx 4 main courses. Would highly recommend for a relaxing, chill out to retreat to after a hot day of exploring."

The room was lovely and clean with a fridge, kettle and aircon and a spacious bathroom. The pool area is stunning. The staff are so friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. They are currently building a restaurant which we can’t wait to return and try!"

Their guide on the safari tour is a very knowledgeable and experienced person. The price we paid for the safari trip was the lowest in the Udawalawe area. This hotel is located very close to the Udawalawe National Park and the surrounding area is very beautiful and peaceful. Their hospitality is priceless. This place is a very valuable place for anyone visiting the Udawalawe National Park."

"I am only writing this to counterbalance some of the other reviews. I cannot comment on the prices as we were on a package. The beer etc. was good value, similar to other hotels anyway. Our room was large, clean and comfortable. With a separate sitting room where we could watch TV (in our case England beat Sri Lanka at cricket😃) The pool area is great and very peaceful. The food was typical for these large hotels,we stuck to the buffet and did not go hungry! It is tired in areas, but that is not untypical here. Everything worked especially the air-conditioning which kept us cool for a great night's sleep. It's not European 4 star, but it certainly has a beautiful personality."

"We had a cosy stay at Max Vila Safari and fantastic safari organized by Max. Deluxe family suite was spacious, at the entrance there was seating area with TV and then in the other room were 2 big beds. More than enough space for the 4 of us, with our 4 large suitcases. Everything was nice and clean. Max is such a great host and his family is so sweet! Max's mum cooked us delicious lunch on the arrival and Max prepared da tasty BBQ that evening. Prices were so fair, safari was very good price and we had the jeep to ourselves. Meals were very reasonable and we also took transfers with minivan from Mirissa to his home and next day from his home to Ella. As I told you, if I could give you 100 I would, everything was just perfect!"

"We arrived around 5:30pm after a safari and were met with a refreshing welcome drink. We were informed that we were too late to order dinner at the hotel and would need to go out which was a bit disappointing as there was a thunderstorm happening. We were asked what time we were going out for dinner as they locked the gate at 9:30, which we found a bit strange. We booked a deluxe double room and had a bungalow to ourselves. It was a lovely place, lots of space, a sitting area and a lovely four poster bed with mosquito net. Good air con and a large bathroom. Bed was comfortable and had a lovely Sri Lankan breakfast. Pool looked lovely, wish we’d had a bit longer so we could use it. Our door got stuck, my husband was locked inside! But they soon came and sorted it for us. It was a short drive from the entrance of Udawalawe NP and close to restaurants, we ate at the Hungry Monkey. The Elephant Transit House was a 2 min drive. Overall would recommend and would stay here again"
