Rubbish place that need bringing out of 1942, food is frozen and defrosted...the words were frozen fresh I believe. Anyhow expensive for what it was, the serving female (elderly one) needs to smile once in a while...or even once.

I’d like to thank all at the Bay Horse for making our stay so enjoyable. It’s a stunning location and the weather certainly helped. Fantastic local walking if that’s your thing and the whole lake thing is right on your doorstep. You do need to take the car but it’s well worth it. Good food, good service and I’d like to thank the locals who gave us a very warm welcome in the bar and much hilarity. We look forward to returning and our 2 Springer Spaniels have never been so welcomed in any pub/hotel. Thank you Bobby & Lesley.

The food was excellent, nothing else was. The menu's were sticky and grubby, you feel contaminated before you eat, cheaply laminated. The conservatory restaurant needed a proper clean and softened, it was like being in a glass box. The bar area smelt fusty and looked grimy. The room we had was at the back, which was dark and dreary, the bathroom had nowhere to store the pike of towels, we didn't use all of ours, but they ended up falling on the floor! The bathroom badly needs decorating. The standard of the food was so good we would have definitely returned, but they need to up their game, for very little expense the whole experience could be first class. Presentation and cleanliness are the most important to get returning visitors

Had lunch. Menus are not very well presented but the food is very nice and reasonably priced. Staff all very friendly. We’ve been here a few times now and they have never let us down. Lovely walk nearby along the canal.

Great wee hotel. Relaxed, cozy and friendly a**osphere. Staff could not have been more helpful and great with our dog . Rooms clean and comfy. Breakfast was excellent and evening meals were delicious with great choice . The views out over the sands are beautiful- lots of interesting birds -very peaceful . The walk beside the canal is also beautiful. A lovely place to stay.

Pop in today for lunch. Lovely place and location. Menu well presented and described. When food arrived, in one of our sandwiches, salad was full of black hair, we showed to the waiters( the ginger guy, sorry didn't catch his name) he was apologetic and very understandable. Then we ask the tall guy( probably manager or wanna be manager 🤔) about some tomato sauce who never arrived. He was more preoccupied to sort his hair and clothes than with the tables. Rude and arrogant, never bother to check on us if food was ok or whatever. Need a bit of training in customer service.

Overlooking the Lune estuary with magical views this fabulous little hotel was a lucky find. The friendliest staff, comfortable rooms and food the quality of which came as a complete and very pleasant surprise. The Rib-eye steak I devoured on our first night may well be the best steak I have had in 71 years! My wife was in raptures over the cod with prawn and leek sauce, the Wainwright draught beer sublime, the breakfast with local cured bacon, sausage , kidney, white and black pudding tomato and apple was a treat. The staff are just perfect. We will be returning for sure as the area is very interesting and it’s not to far from the Lakes and our home in Newcastle. Located at the junction of the Ulverston canal and the Lune estuary you have to travel through a more modern light industrial area but do not fear the Hotel stands in a perfect bucolic area. It rained most of the time as you can see from the photos but we still enjoyed every moment.

Dreadful Service, there is no doubt these staff are not happy. The two young girls that served did have even half a smile between them. The lady , Lynne was at least half decent. When I asked for malt vinegar with my chips I was brought white vinegar, the young man just stared at me when I said I have never ever seen anybody have white vinegar with their chips, when I asked one of the two miserable girls for malt vinegar she said "oh I don't know I just have mayo with my chips" she then marched off and made no attempt to help. This was just astonishingly bad. On departure I mentioned this and the other miserable girl immediately said "sir can you stop shouting" , absolutely ludicrous my voice was not raised at all , but they clearly use this as a way of accusing complainers of being unreasonable , just awful. If they cannot deal with a constructive suggestion ie. please can you get some malt vinegar to accompany the chips , without making a scene in front of other customers which is what they did then this is really tragic. So any readers of this I warn you to look out for this dreadful defensive strategy because they will try and embarrass you. As I say their table service was the worst I have ever witnessed, just appalling. The tables also were sticky , the furniture is so tired and worn and the general a**osphere is so out of date that you just can't wait to leave. On top of that I would advise everybody to check the menu for the weirdest food combinations , that are so off putting they cannot be considered. I mean really really bad. I wouldn't return primarily because of the miserable service.

Been a long time since I did a review so hear goes my family and I visited the Ship Inn pub just outside on the way in to Coniston in the lakes as the last pub we where at stopped selling food at 3 o'clock that was the Crown pub in Coniston so we went to the Ship Inn normally this place is very busy, we parked the car and went in it's a nice little cottages style pub anyway went to the bar got drinks and ordered the food myself and wife both had a ploughman's with a portion of home made onion rings my granddaughter had some sort of penne pasta my daughter and here partner shared a meal between them which was cheese garlic bread cheesy chips with chicken my grandson had onion rings with the home made chips and chicken my wife and my granddaughter shared a raspberry cheese cake and my grandson had a sticky toffee pudding with cream. The staff were brilliant polite very friendly food was served after a little wait of about 5 mins and was really good the plates had no waste on them it was all eaten to me that's a sign of good food would visit again no problem there was plenty of food on the plates so anyone reading this review pay this pub a visit it's well worth it. P S the chips home made and very chunky and delicious and the price was a good price.
