Urumqi Xiyu Harbour Youth Hostel

The location is definitely a plus — it’s right next to a high-end shopping mall, which is very convenient. However, a few things could be improved. The staff didn’t come across as particularly welcoming, and the bathroom wasn’t very clean during my stay. There’s also a noticeable lack of privacy in the bathroom due to a large gap in the door, which felt a bit uncomfortable. As for cooling, there’s only a small portable cooler instead of proper air conditioning, and unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to keep the room cool — I found myself waking up quite sweaty due to the heat.

A brilliant staff and a very cooperative service clean and neat

Fine place for a night or two if you’re travelling through. Located on top of the mall, a little hard to find so make sure you check how to get in. Bed and sheets etc clean but bathroom so so.

Location is good, just a couple of hundred meters from the Sports centre metro station which is a direct line from Urumqi airport. The building has a security officer, register with passport to gain access to the 10th floor. The hostel receptionist is helpful and there's a lounge to chill. The10 people's room is spacious but the bathroom needs some cleaning.

Nice location

We initially booked a room with windows, but upon arrival they told us there were only rooms without window left. So we did not had another choice than to take it. We negotiated with the owner and he gave us some discount. The walls in the room were quite filthy with lots of stains on it and the bathroom was missing a door. When taking a shower, the whole floor was under water because the drains are probably clogged massively. The owner and the receptionist were both very friendly though and the hotel is in a very good location right next to the metro station and shopping mall.

Hostel is about 5 - 7 minutes away from the "Sports Centre" metro station, which is about 25+ minutes from the airport. The hostel entrance is next to the Tesla shop, and you have to press the buzzer, for the security guard to open the gate for you. Then, after writing your name down in the guest-book, you go up to the 10th floor in the lift. (Check the other reviews here, for a picture of the gate/door to the building) The staff speak little to no English, but they are very helpful. They will try to solve your issues, as long as you patient with the translation software. Also, it is difficult for staff to check you in, if you do not have a contact number or Alipay/Wechat contact. (This is a CN Govt requirement) The dorm rooms are basic and you may get the city views. There are no privacy curtains and there was no air-con, in my one. The hostel staff can provide fans, but we did not need any, as it was still cool at night. The beds are OK. There is a bathroom in the dorm room too, but there was almost no privacy for the bathroom, as there was a gap between the door for others to see and you can see through the frosted glass into the bathroom too! The hostel is relatively clean, quiet and well-located, except there may be other local guests, who are loud and smoke sometimes in the other rooms. Next to the hostel is a nice up-market shopping centre and with really lots to eat, in the food-court on the 3rd floor.

Excellent location for solo traveller who prefer to travel by public transport. near 2 mrt stations and brt 1 stop, direct bus to train station. super convenient. large supermarket downstairs. Boss is friendly and helpful. Good room mates during my stay
