Hotel Valkenburg by Mercure - Next to Shimano Experience Center Reviews

I took advantage of the New Year's special with my mother. From Maastricht station you can walk through the hills to the hotel in 2.5 hours. When we arrived at the hotel, we were kindly received at the desk and check-in took place quite quickly. The room is simple but fully equipped. The toilet is separate from the bathroom, which we certainly experienced as a +. Plenty of towels, coffee and tea, TV, WiFi, outside view, soft/firm bed and walk-in rain shower. Due to the current measures, we dined in the room. Dietary wishes were communicated at check-in, but the kitchen team did not take this into account properly. It was indicated that person 1 does not like mushrooms. Then, in course 1, the carpaccio (where the mushrooms were not even mentioned on the menu) consisted of half of the dish from cantaloupe mushrooms. The t****th course was ordered steak medium rare twice and upon arrival in the room the service indicated that 1 steak was well done. “Is this bad?” We were hungry, sending it back to the kitchen would take longer because we were in the room, and the other steak would then cool down. We then indicated that it was bad, but throwing it away would be a shame! The chocolate cake made up for everything! How delicious it is. Breakfast had to be picked up at an agreed time due to keeping distance from other guests. The collection was super organized and could easily be brought to the room. But what breakfast consisted of left much to be desired. The baked rolls were cold, just like the boiled egg and the scrambled eggs. The yogurt and fruit came in 2 cups, which was awkward to share between two people. Toppings for the sandwiches consisted of only 1 slice of everything (for 2 people? Shouldn't it be 2 of everything?) and the pastry was frozen. The stay in the room is really wonderful and the location of the hotel is perfect for people who want to go out into nature during the day (and visit the pub afterwards when it is allowed to open again after the lockdown). But the team could currently pay a little more attention to dinner and breakfast before it is brought to the room.
