My wife and I decided to go to Venice for our honeymoon. She dreamed for a long time and I made such a gift to her and myself. We arrived at the Bauer Palazzo Hotel. They put us in a cozy room. For the price by the way one of the cheapest 100 euros others were around 200 and up. We liked this one 5 floors like a mini palace. The staff did a good job and I have no complaints. Did not want to leave the beauty of Venice is mesmerizing. Of the minuses, only that the boatmen swim near the hotel itself and make a little noise. On the whole, we are satisfied with the trip. I recommend.

The location in and of itself is enough to rate this a highly rated hotel in Venice. In the heart of San Marco, right off the river, and probably twenty steps away from all the shopping (including luxury) - its a no brainer to stay here. The only downside is that at least two of the rooms we stayed at, the view is horrendous.. because there is no view. Perhaps try to get a view facing outside, but our windows were like facing inward - to like a green courtyard that just looked very dated. View wasn't pleasant. Also, the showers were very confusing... there is no curtain nor wall so with the insane water pressure, you're certainly going to get water everywhere. However, the breakfast scene is amazing. Amazing view and lots of variety! You won't be dissatisfied at all! I'd probably stay again. Room size is solid.

A return to Venice after a many year absence. The hotel was clean and well maintained. The restaurants were very good. Service was prompt and professional. The canal-side terrace restaurant was quite memorable. The roof top bar was picturesque. We are already planning a return.

We loved staying at the Bauer. The location was superb - close to St. Mark's, on the grande canal and a side canal. The room was quiet and beautiful, the staff friendly and helpful, The concierge was very helpful and the communication was wonderful.

Beautiful location. But the hotel experience felt like it was constantly trying to squeeze every last penny out of you. Do not take the “free” excursion to Murano- compliments of the Hotel. This free transportation is not a “perk”of a high end hotel as we experienced at other luxury hotels during our 16 days in Italy. We felt scammed after this “excursion” You are taken to one - and only one - showroom. Once the hard sell is over - you are told your ride back is leaving. We did buy glasses. $1200 for 6 beautiful glasses. Too bad they showed up at our door with a $70 shipping bill. We either paid - or the glasses went back. We were told the $1200 covered shipping and insurance. It did not apparently. We had the most fabulous stay in Tuscany at Lupaia. We had an outstanding time at Casa Maria Luigia in Modena. Those were truly once in a lifetime experiences. For a luxury experience in Venice - choose someplace other than Bauer. Was it horrible? Absolutely not. But you will just be another tourist and they really don’t seem to like tourists.

There is no need to repeat how good (and expensive) this hotel is despite looking old. We paid £1700 for a deluxe room overlooking the small canal (we could hear the gondoliers singing) for 4 nights. Room 344. We were very confortable and it was rather spacious. The shower was excellent, good water pressure; the TV was too small to watch, perhaps they will provide big ones after renovation. The breakfast was excellent overlooking Santa Maria della Salute. It is central and the service second to none. It is expensive (we had 2 caprese salads and two tiramisu in the bedroom for £66 plus £15 room service). The main restaurant is very expensive and the cover charge is £15 (a ridiculous amount) I recommend to go next door (L'ombre del leone) or Bar Foscherini. Venice is a very, very expensive museum and a tourist trap. You will not eat at a restaurant for less than £100 for two. We had two salads and two gingerini at the Bienale for £46.. In any case, we will come back in 2 years when it has been renovated. But this hotel is 5 stars because of every single member of staff and I hope that the owners and managers value them.

I am sure that once upon a time this was a grand hotel basking in the glory of it’s wonderful canal front location. Sadly this must have faded from the memory just as the appalling drab interiors have faded over the years. I note from other reviews that a significant renovation is planned, my advice is stay well away until this has been completed. We arrived for our honeymoon at what was billed as a 5* hotel. Having been lucky enough to stay at many truly top end hotels we couldn’t have been more disappointed. From the reception experience which was truly impersonal, forgetting my request for a bottle of Prosecco to be sent to the room for my wife. To no-one showing us to our room (unheard of in any other 5* establishment). We walked through corridors reminiscent of Soviet era Belgrade to our ‘superior suite’. The room was astonishingly bad with the feel of a run down nursing home! Drab furnishings, totally dark, the only windows on to an internal shaft, no water in the room, not even a cushion or bed throw! If this was a 3* hotel in 1970’s Torquay I would still have walked out let alone a 5* offering in 2022. Having returned to reception the vaguely disinterested member of the management team we spoke to told us that all there rooms were ‘old’ and that they were full so there was little chance of relocating us during our stay. No word of apology though! Luckily we had booked through BA Holidays and there help desk was superb. Within an hour and a half of calling they had cancelled the Bauer booking and relocated us to the nearby Metrople. This hotel is superb in every regard and just along the canal so save yourself a dreadful experience and book here not the Bauer!!

Hotel Bauer Palazzo is in an unbeatable location in Venice. It's easy to get to all of the highlights, wander the streets and the views of the Grand Canal are stunning. Breakfast overlooking the water is an experience to dream of. The service was fantastic, from check in to check out and everything in between, the front desk and hotel staff was excellent. The rooms and the hotel (hard product) are very dated. You can see that this was once a stunner from that perspective, and their upcoming overhaul will be amazing. This isn't uncommon in Venice due to the cost of renovation, so it's not surprising. The rooms are big, we had suites and there was more than enough room - especially by Venetian hotel standards! My room did not have black out shades (my friend's room did), however, the front desk immediately had curtains installed in my room to help. I look forward to seeing how this hotel evolves after the renovation. It was a great, historic spot on our trip.
