Morning Bell of Wenjiang Confucian Temple
Every morning, the bell from Wenjiang Confucian Temple drifts over the brick walls of Shexue Alley and falls softly onto the stone pavement of our courtyard. This was once the place where Wang Guangqi studied as a boy. A century later, we have taken over this land—polishing the intricately carved brick gateways from the Guangxu era and transforming the Republic-era octagonal pavilion into a tearoom called "Wenquxuan." Under the shade of native nanmu trees, we have created guestrooms that are both livable and wanderable.
Private Hot Spring Courtyard Family Suite
Features two double beds, an independent bamboo-enclosed courtyard, and a soaking pool hidden among greenery. Bathe under the stars at night, wake to gentle breezes and fragrances—a tranquil and serene retreat.
City View Terrace Suite
Offers a broad view. From the terrace, you can see the full panorama of Wenjiang Confucian Temple and the city skyline. A cup of tea, half a day of leisure—here you embrace the old town's vibrant life and poetic charm.
Executive Suite
Exceptionally private, spacious, bright, and comfortable. Comes with an in-room private hot spring bath. Ideal for family gatherings or small business meetings—enjoy unhurried moments within this classic courtyard setting.
Though the number of guestrooms is small, each is equipped to high standards: Australian Apelles toiletries, King Koil mattresses, goose down bedding, Hansgrohe and Duravit bathroom fixtures.
By design, every room faces a window full of greenery. Some guests open their windows to see the flying eaves and roof beasts of the Confucian temple; others meet the crown of the nanmu grove; a few simply wish to sit with the moss in the courtyard as time gently passes. With private in-room hot spring baths and a steam sauna, the day’s wandering fatigue easily melts away. In-floor heating lies beneath the old grey bricks—when you step on it barefoot in winter, a gentle warmth rises from below.
We do not rush to label ourselves with phrases like "Tang and Song elegance" or "modern style." Restoring an old residence is easy to overstate but hard to get just right. Our design philosophy is simple: let every new addition be worthy of the old house’s character.
Inside, there are also some not-so-"old" facilities. A heated swimming pool hides behind bamboo groves, its still water reflecting cloud shadows from the courtyard. The sauna room gives off a faint woody scent, while outside the window are the green-tiled rooflines unique to western Sichuan residences. The gym is modest in size but well-equipped—many guests start with a few kilometers on the treadmill before enjoying their breakfast. The mahjong room is tucked into the back courtyard with excellent soundproofing, so excitement and tranquility never disturb each other. The meeting room can accommodate small business events; the projection screen is cleverly hidden behind a Shu embroidery piece—when rolled up, the wall glows with the silk threads of Wenjiang’s eight scenic views.
Breakfast at the hotel is a Japanese-style set meal served in lacquerware: beef ramen, miso soup, grilled mackerel, onsen egg, accompanied by imported melon—bringing a taste of Japan into western Sichuan’s everyday life. Afternoon tea is served in the octagonal pavilion "Wenquxuan." The seasonal handcrafted pastries change with the 24 solar terms, paired with Mengding Ganlu tea or golden chrysanthemum—fresh and light on the palate.
Cuiying Heritage Hotel is no grand narrative. It is simply a courtyard by Wenjiang Confucian Temple, just large enough to hold some people's memories of Chengdu. Some come specially for the private hot spring baths and heated pool; some gather old friends for half a day in the mahjong room; others simply pass by, push the door open for a glance of light spots in the courtyard, and then leave again.
We are here, waiting for the right person—whether you want a quick escape from the urban hustle or a proper stay to savor the comforts of life.
