Weihai International Seaview City Hotel

The front desk proactively upgraded us to a sea-view room. I have to say, the sea-view room was truly amazing; we could watch the sunset right from our room. The location is excellent, with the sea right downstairs, making it very convenient to just throw on a swimsuit and head in for a dip. To the left of the hotel, there's a morning market and a night market. The morning market offers fruits and breakfast items, and the night market feels even more abundant than the San Da night market.

The hotel boasts a fantastic location; just cross the road and you're on a beautiful beach with soft sand and clean water. There are plenty of recreational activities and services nearby. It's about a kilometer from Torch Eight Street, so it's not too noisy, offering a peaceful retreat without being overly crowded. It's a great spot for a relaxing beach vacation. Plus, the seafood restaurants next to the hotel are lively, reasonably priced, and delicious!

The hotel is a bit old and the facilities are dated, but it's very clean and dry, with no strange smells. We had a pleasant stay. One side of the hotel offers unbeatable sea views, while the other overlooks a forest. There's a free laundry room on the 5th floor. The front desk staff on the ground floor were very welcoming. As soon as we arrived, they told us about the best places to visit, what to avoid, and where to find good food. They even provided free sand-digging tools that we could take with us. When we were leaving, they noticed we were waiting a long time for a taxi and offered us drinks to cool down – very thoughtful. The hotel is just across the road from the beach, and there's a lively night market right downstairs. The only downside is that the area gets quite congested at night, making it hard to catch a taxi. The bathroom drain was a bit slow; after three people showered, the water would overflow, but the staff were quick to resolve the issue. The hotel's buffet dinner was 50 per person, half price for children, and included BBQ, steamed seafood, meat and vegetable dishes, plus all the beer you could drink – excellent value for money. The staff were friendly and polite, so we ended up eating there twice. Overall, we were very satisfied with our stay.

Upon entering, the lobby had a strong musty smell. The bathroom walls were covered in stains, the drain constantly smelled, and the shower drain was clogged, leading to water pooling all over the floor. The windows in the sea-view room were also filthy, completely ruining the view. We paid for a premium sea-view room, but both the cleanliness and facilities were a complete disaster. We had a terrible night due to the odors and standing water. We couldn't stand it anymore and checked out on the second day of our planned three-night stay. The feeling of not getting what we paid for was incredibly strong. The only upside was its proximity to the sea.

The hotel called us in advance to confirm our check-in time and sent us a message with directions. When we arrived, they even upgraded us to a suite and prepared small gifts for the kids, which was very thoughtful. The breakfast was decent; it's not a five-star hotel, but it had everything we needed. The late check-out was also great – the kids got to play in the sea, come back for a shower, and then we checked out, which was super convenient. I left a ring behind, and customer service messaged me about it. It's the kind of small item that's easily overlooked, which shows how meticulous the housekeeping staff are. Being right on the beach downstairs was incredibly convenient too.

The hotel's right by the sea, and the front desk staff, especially the lady, was super welcoming and helpful. They even gave me a fridge magnet! Highly recommend.

1. I originally booked a forest-view king room for over 600, for one adult and one child. When checking in, I asked the front desk if I could get a free upgrade. The front desk staff was very kind and upgraded me to a sea-view king room for free, but charged me a 100 deposit, which would only be refunded after I left a good review upon check-out. No good review, no refund. 2. After going upstairs, I noticed a musty smell in the hallway. The smell in the room was particularly strong. I asked to see if there were other rooms of the same type, and I looked at a few, all of which had a similar smell. Finally, housekeeping showed me a family room with three beds, which smelled slightly less. I proactively asked how much more I needed to pay for the difference, but they called to confirm and said no extra charge was needed. I felt a bit embarrassed but stayed there. However, the smell really didn't diminish at all; it permeated every corner (a mix of musty, sour, and foul). My child already has a somewhat sensitive respiratory system, and although they were fine before, they started coughing after we arrived. The smell even gave me a headache. 3. The hotel is very close to the beach, just across the road, which is very convenient. The water is still quite cold now, so it's very convenient to quickly return to the hotel after getting wet. I chose this hotel precisely because of its proximity. I had also read some negative reviews but thought that even five-star or chain hotels get bad reviews, plus I figured a place for over 600 a night couldn't be that bad, so I booked it. I really advise friends who are planning to bring their children during the summer vacation to avoid this place. After all, during July and August, regular room types have already gone up to over 800. 4. The 100 deposit was refunded to me at check-out, and the staff was quite enthusiastic. I just wanted to make sure that future guests are aware of the issues I encountered and whether they are particular about smells. 5. Also, I noticed that the disposable toothbrushes were labeled 'non-disposable product.' I wonder if they are sanitized and reused.

The room facilities were excellent, definitely a 5-star experience for a 4-star hotel. Highly recommend it! The staff were gentle, lovely, and kind. It's a great place, and I'd happily choose to stay here again next time I'm in Yantai. Hehe.
