The hotel has a major flaw that ruins the experience. The restaurant / service. Cannot fault the staff for their friendliness. It seems to be the kitchen. Perhaps if the food was not so complicated it wouldn’t take so long! Place an order for drinks and food, it’s possible that your drinks will arrive after your starters. And when they do, the beer is warm. Send it back. Get another warm bottle. Out of stock on some of the wines. Very expensive drinks in general. Now for the food. I ended up ordering from the kids menu as the adults was so pretentious to the point it was not nice. Had a bbq carrot on pearl barley, the “crispy” onions were like rubber. The barley tasted like you were eating a soap bar. And the carrot was raw and charred. Every adult main I had was served with cav Nero which had been washed and cooked with sea water, then coated in enough salt to dry store a pig carcass over winter. Wife had a cod, it was cold in the middle. Sent it back, came back 5 mins later with the comment “chef says it’s ok” with the same fish just now colder and probably touched by many, 1 at least was the server who prodded it as he walked away. Often you had to wait at least an hour for your food, and when I say your drinks could arrive after. It’s that bad. Table next to us had eaten their starters before the 2 cocktails they had ordered at the start came out. When you consider a starter is ~£10 and a main ~£20 Dinner time with the kids could take over 2 and a half hours so bring your own entertainment. They do have games and a cinema. Which are needed to keep the kids entertained. To review the rest of the hotel. Rooms very nice. Staff very friendly and kind and caring - although I would say the chefs need a fire lit underneath them, and the wait staff trained on time management. Games hall excellent Other facilities top notch. If it weren’t for the dire slow service and overly pretentious undercooked over seasoned food it would have been an amazing stay. Kids enjoyed it over Christmas, but asked if they could eat somewhere else as it took so long. I’m just appalled about being given back undercooked cold fish. Suffice to say, it didn’t get eaten and went back on the plate - when there were 2 items on the plate - the fish and some charred salted veg, it’s pretty bad. Good thing I have some crisps, cheese and crackers upstairs in the room!!! Unfortunately no one seems to deliver to the hotel either so take away is off. But Mc Donald’s is about a 10 mins drive away. This has been our 5th stay here. And it’s been getting progressively worst. This was our most expensive stay yet at ~£1000 a night. Think it will be our last as well. It’s been a bit of a let down. We’re not the only guests feeling this way. It’s a common discussion point amongst the guests during idle chit chat at tables between us, well we are often sat at the same tables and often spend at minimum of 4hours a day sat next to each other! Just watching a family play mon

We loved this hotel for its homely feel, it really does feel like home from home. Staff, especially in the restaurant are wonderful with the kids, they couldn’t do enough for us. Cinema room for the kids and milk and cookies. Decor is really gorgeous, rooms clean ( we also loved the real fires!) very cosy! Now the bit that is such a shame…the food. The food here is 2 stars with a 5 star price I’m afraid. Service is slow, which is very tricky when you have young children. Food is important to us so on this basis, we wouldn’t return

We have just returned from a one night stay at Moonfleet Manor, it was nice and had several good points but we would not personally stay again. Our suite was beautiful, very 5 star hotel vibes, but the hotel is VERY family focused, as a couple wanting to enjoy a quiet birthday break we had not realised when booking how family focused it is. The restaurant was full of babies and toddlers for both our evening meal and breakfast, we were in fact the only couple without children! Beautiful estuary views from our ground floor suite, shame the patio doors did not open & the freestanding bath only ran luke warm water, making it unusable. Positive points are super friendly staff & great food. If you are a couple with small children it's definitely the hotel for you, but I would avoid as a couple.

We stayed here with our two year old for four nights. We were made to feel very welcome wherever we went in the hotel and it was really geared up for kids. There was milk available at bedtime, really good children’s menu and loads for him to do (including a really decent sized indoor pool and a huge playbarn). That being said, it also felt grown up enough to cater for us e.g. there was a really good cocktail menu. As for the room (we were upgraded to a studio suite), this was really spacious and the bed was huge and very comfortable. We found the food to be solid and as I say the choice for children was particularly good. It was maybe slightly slower to come out on occasion than we may have expected, but this didn’t bother us. The staff were great without exception and made a real effort with our little one in particular. A special mention to Mark, Karen and Kai in the restaurant but really everyone was great. Thanks so much for the special memories and we hope to be back soon.

This hotel does have a good vibe in the rooms and the lounges are great. Lots of choice to relax in great spaces. There is a however! The menus are definitely targeted towards younger audiences so if you’re going there expecting a full dining experience, you will be disappointed . The food is underwhelming and very overpriced I chose the posh fish and chips, which was a small, cold chunk of cod, completed with its plastic wrapping that it was cooked in found amongst the flakes of fish ! Drinks order was simple however, the waiters managed to get that wrong too! ( note the best and most efficient and friendly waitress was Sophie a real asset to the team criticism does not definitely apply to her) We were served a cheese plate with spoons, no knives in sight ! It was my retirement weekend, the hotel were fully aware of that. They asked me to re-order another plate of food or to take away the plastic and reheat or redo. The fish. I just wanted to go with something that was safe and quick as my partner nearly finished his meal - so I went for some French fries and the small beef starter. Noted some other similar complaints re food and service on trip advisor ..! The bill… I was told that the fries and the unfinished starter for my main meal would be taken off the bill ! It would’ve been nice if we’ve been offered some drinks or had the wine taken off the bill as well .. the female manager , was overfamiliar loud and unprofessional compared to her staff junior staff member Sophie. The dining staff are clearly lacking in training, understanding the menu and completing tasks that seem to us quite simple., ie cheese should be served with a knife, not a spoon ! - There were lots of young families there which we like , clearly lots of repeat bookers and I think this hotel and the menu would probably be great for them, but anybody wanting a special dining experience in a luxury hotel I would steer clear - this is not comparable with the pig or Woolacombe bay . Another special mention for the Spa treatment. In particular Charlotte, who is attention to detail and professionalism was really appreciated.. There was a mistake made with my booking. I was expecting a hot stone massage on the Saturday that was definitely booked - It had mysteriously disappeared from the books! The hotel gave me a small box of chocolates to say sorry, and they made room for me to have the massage the following day. Offering me a more lengthy massage, but I didn’t have time to take advantage of that offer and paid for the 60 minutes instead. We won’t return, given the catering and hospitality we received. Very disappointed overall

We visted on a friday afternoon in January , as it was not warm enough to sit outside we chose to have our Afternoon Tea in one of the cosy lounges which had a lovely cosy log fire. Afternoon Tea, was lovely. Good quality finger sandwiches, a nice selection of mini cakes and the scones were 'melt in your mouth' wonderful. Service with a smile as well!

Just one of our favourite places on the planet. Been coming here with our young son since he was 2 and he’s now nearly 18. Think this was our 15th trip (or thereabouts) and would have been more had it not been for a pandemic….. always felt like the perfect family friendly hotel, catering explicitly to parents with young children. Swimming pool, escape room, huge “play barn”, science lab and so much more. A beautiful location and a beautiful venue. We’ve seen it change over the years, from originally a really charming shabby chic style location (will never forget the stuffed animals) thru a gorgeous recent facelift that has really modernised. What’s never changed tho has been the friendliness and welcome of the wonderful staff. Seen some lovely faces come and go (such as Sonya, Jason & Christian), some of the same friendly faces still here throughout always remembering our son with a huge smkle and welcome (such as Linda and Wendy). And on our latest visit, new faces, same friendliness. Thanks Moonfleet. See you soon. And pleased to hear Snoopy is still enjoying his “retirement”!!

Wonderful family hotel. Staff are friendly and great with the kids. The kids facilities in this hotel are amazing, lots for them to do and explore. Our children aged 7 and 10 loved it and so did we. The restaurant allows for children to eat earlier so that you can have a meal whilst the children watch a movie in the cinema room which is adjacent to the restaurant. Children were given cookies, milk and popcorn from reception. The restaurant food was excellent and they made it so easy with the children. We will visit again, thank you to the team that looked after us 27-29th December.

This was our first trip to this beautiful hotel standing right on the edge of Chesil beach Dorset. We met family as it made a wonderful half way meeting place for our Christmas get together. From the very first people I spoke to Kay and Linda from their events team to the wonderful warm greeting by Wendy and one of our servers Tom we had the most amazing experience and were made to feel so individual and special. So a big thank you must go out to those four members of the team. We were shown into a festive private room that had been set up for Christmas afternoon tea and wow what a delight of savories and cakes, there certainly was plenty of everything and all looked amazing and tasted delicious. We all agreed next time we will all get together and stay as a large family in the New Year plus our dogs. The children just loved all the amenities on offer. This is certainly a hidden gem. Thank you all at the Moonfleet Manor and Happy Christmas to you all. Joy, Tom and families.
