Things to Do in Whittier, California
Pio Pico State Historic Park is dedicated to one of California's most pivotal figures, two-time Alta California Governor, Pio de Jesus Pico IV. The Pio Pico House, situated in the park by the San Gabriel River, is one of Southern California’s remaining 19th century abodes. The abode and the 10,000-acre land surrounding it has been carefully and continuously restored, creating a feel of how Pio Pico, his family, and friends lived there, and is open to the public for visiting.
The Whittier Museum, opened by the Whittier Historical Society in 1983, features historic artifacts from the first 100 years of Whittier, CA history and beyond. The museum exhibits collections donated from the times of Pio Pico, Harriet Strong, and 37th President of the United States, Richard Nixon. The Whittier Historical Society also preserves and cares for the Bailey House, formerly known as "The Old Ranch House". The property, once home to Whittier's first settlers, Jonathan and Rebecca Bailey, now operates as an exhibit of earlier Whittier history.
