Langdale Chase Hotel

A stunning hotel, on the shores of Lake Windermere. From the moment I drove in, I was made to feel very welcome by each member of the team. The hotel has been decorated to a very high standard, keeping original features and restoring those that had been removed over the years. The food was outstanding as are the views. Langdale Chase really is relaxed luxury offering a memorable experience.

My wife and I have never left negative feedback anywhere before. We come to the Lake District often and were excited to book our wedding anniversary dinner here, post renovation having heard lots of positive feedback previously. We didn’t read TripAdvisor as this hotel has two AA rosettes, big mistake. Replies by management to other dissatisfied customers regarding the food promising improvements moving forward have yet to be delivered. Sad to report there has been no improvement since the comments from Richard C in March 2024. At £79 for what would be generously be described as a three course light snack we were severely disappointed and also felt like going to the nearest takeaway to fill up afterwards. My wife likes her beef medium and I like mine rare but I can reliably describe what we were served as rare to blue and having a preference was not an option. When we asked about this we were told “this is the new trend”. We are lucky enough to be able to honestly say we have been to bucket list hotels and restaurants but you will routinely find us in local pubs and restaurant chains so really feel we have experience across the whole spectrum. Whilst there is nothing wrong with the service if you were at a restaurant chain it is not what you’d expect from a high end establishment. Sorry Langsdale, but if you want better value, not be left hungry and experience the expected service standard we’d recommend looking at other 2 AA rosette, impressive lakeside establishments within a couple of miles. Our hotel dinner from two nights prior at £70 per head was far superior in every way. Please listen to your customers, your setting and wine list are very enjoyable but the food and service need significant improvement to be worth what you charge.

wow wow and wow. i can not wait to go back. We only had the one night but i wish we had stayed longer. Every single member of staff was so helpful and welcoming. Nothing is to much trouble. The rooms are amazing. Clean well stocked fridge. The suit we had was amazing. i went with my 8 yr old and they found board games for you and the staff was so friendly i really can not recommend they place Highley enough. private cinema while waiting for our room to be ready due to arriving early. We can not wait to go back when the weather is better and make more use of the large balcony.

We have been regular visitors to the Lakes for many decades . We used to stay at Waterhead which is now under new management. Lowood bay no longer offers dog friendly dining so was not an option. Langdale chase was recently renovated so we thought , hoped it might be our new favourite place to stay What a huge disappointment We arrived late and tired because we had to take the ferry and then a long drive When we arrived they told us our room type wasn’t available Ok , disappointing but they would move us tomorrow . We were fine with that. Then they said they would take us to our room in the “buggy” with our suitcases Hold on we thought we had booked into a hotel ? Why a buggy ? What about a lift , a corridor ? Buggy’s were not mentioned on their website So the buggy was reversed to the car and my husband had to lift the suitcase onto the high boot area . Challenging and unexpected. Most hotels offer to carry your luggage for you it went downhill from here literally and metaphorically The buggy took us about 1/4 mile down a steep uneven pathway Then we had to climb the steep steps from the pathway to the room with our luggage (again no help offered) When we got inside the room there were more steep steps up to the room and to the bathroom We are not as young or fit as we used to be But the worst was yet to come The climb , easily 5 Stories to the hotel on outside badly lit and uneven stone steps By the time I got there I was ready to collapse So much for a relaxing weekend !! We went to reception and said as retired pensioners we couldn’t deal with this and asked for a room in the hotel None was offered There were rooms available it seems but they weren’t dog friendly and our two wee poodles could not he accommodated in the hotel it was too late to leave that night so we had to put up with it But why did they not state on their website that the dog friendly rooms were NOT in the hotel That it required a steep climb to access the hotel and the car park In fairness they said they would refund our payments and they did , although we never received an explanation or apology for the inconvenience nor did they even send a breakdown of our charges . Having had a very difficult few months with family illness we just wanted a relaxing break and were happy to pay a premium for this . But our experience at this hotel was anything but relaxing It was stressful , and exhausting Time is more precious than money and we can’t get those precious “holiday” days back . We absolutely hate to ever leave a negative review but this was such a huge disappointment that after reflection we thought we owed it to others to warn them. If you are really fit and don’t mind loads of steps and want a dog friendly room close to the lake and isolated from the hotel with your dog then this may work for you. But if ,like us , you want a easy luxury break you should be aware that the dog friendly rooms are not

Amazing hotel, just back from Langdale Chase a beautiful hotel with the most gorgeous setting in Windermere. Room was lovely probably the best we’ve stayed in. The wine tasting was a must with very knowledgeable James! Nothing was too much trouble staff all friendly and helpful cannot wait to return. The hotel has just been awarded a 5* rating on our departure well done everyone involved.

We have just called at Langdale Chase with my 92 year old Mother with the intention of having a pot of tea whilst having a look around in order to hopefully book a Christmas break. We only just got the door open when we were told that they were full and there were no tables! We said we only wanted a pot of tea and Christmas details but the girl just repeated they were full even for just a pot of tea! Not a very friendly greeting and guess what….we’ll be going elsewhere for Christmas.

We were not disappointed with our room, the lake view , the staff or the food. We had very good food and service in the restaurant . At the price we paid we needed to be satisfied. We will return. I would have given 5* s but for a few minor issues with the room which was large and beautiful but as some have said a few basic needs are missing. I once stayed in one newly refurbished hotel where a note sheet was left in rooms for guests to make suggestions for additions. Maybe that would be a good idea here.

Went for birthday lunch very poor choice of food and gin menu totally lacked fruit gins . We have stayed here several times before refurbishment took place and after our lunch experience we don’t think we’ll be back any time soon such a pity because it used to be superb

Having read about this Hotel in the Sunday Times recently we were keen to visit and we were not dissappointed.Absolutely beautiful interiors and equally beautiful grounds with stunning views of Windermere. The staff were all outstanding and I am sorry I dont know all of their names. Lynda was the lovely lady who took our booking over the phone and was so helpful and informative. All reception staff were very friendly and always helpful.They would always make sure you had everything you needed. Also special mention to Iian who served us dinner on the first evening and also looked after us in the bar and lounge area on day 2.He was so friendly and informative about local history and history of the hotel.Always stopped for a chat to check we had everything we needed.He was very hardworking looking after people as bar and lounges were very busy that day but had time for a kind word with everyone. The rooms were in the Lake House and they were lovely with little balconies with big doors and uninterupted views of Windermere.Everywhere was very clean and exquisitely decorated.They have done such a good job with the refurbishment. Staff were all outsanding and I am sorry I cant mention everyones names as I dont know all the names but they were all excellent. I cant wait to rebook. Also all of the food was absolutely delicious and very well presented and the main restaurant again with beautiful views is a joy to enjoy a meal in.
