5* lovely hotel, clean, tidy and friendly staff. Great breakfast with fresh juice, fruit and a range of hot food including a full English. Lovely view over Windermere and nice teas and coffee in the room with sweets and fresh sheets and water replenished daily. Would definitely return!

We stayed here early March for the mini moon package and felt compelled to share our experience which couldn’t have been better. From the moment we checked the fire a roaring at reception, the room was lovely with water, and sweets which was a bonus. The staff couldn’t have done more, keiran especially was excellent, ensuring we had what we needed and were happy. Definitely recommend this place for a remote escape! The tasting menu is a must!

Fantastic stay at Merewood earlier this week with my daughter, it was a birthday present from her. The hotel is well located next to Lake Windermere, fantastic views from hotel, and they gave us a room upgrade so we had same view from there, which was special. Hotel clean and well maintained with lots of character. Staff very friendly, couldn’t do enough for you, including sorting my car out ( thanks Jim, handyman), when I couldn’t get into it, or start it ( issue car battery). Room was really large, huge bay window with sofa, well equipped with coffee machine, treats etc. Bathroom had shower and bath. Lovely area behind high headboard for changing with wardrobes, sofas, dressing table. I was treated to the 7 course taster menu, which was fabulous and looked really pretty and inventive. We opted to buy our own bottle of wine. Waiter staff very attentive and friendly. Breakfast was lovely, loads of choice, we had eggs royal. nice rooms to chill out in, including day rooms and bars. All in all a fantastic stay and experience, thank you to all the staff; I would definitely return.

We've stayed at Merewood and Cragwood sister hotels for some years now. Both have had refurbishments in recent years so we are glad to say that both are still places we would revisit. As it was our 30th anniversary and Valentine's Day, we went to Merewood for it had availability and although we wanted to have the Arboreal menu, we couldn't afford it (£65+) so we opted for The Grill. We were sorely disappointed. The food and ambience of the evening was lacklustre and really let things down for us. The menu, we knew was pub grub so our expectations were at that level. But the bread to start off proceedings was laughably tasteless, grey and rock hard. This could be soda or sourdough but this was neither! More of this came with my paltry portion of basic houmous at £5. It was not worth that (no salad). My hubby had more of same bread with his starter of duck terrine too! £9. His main looked nice Steak and Ale pie. My burger was ok but cheese was ultra oily and brioche bun hard so I ate burger with the lovely chips and onion ring that accompanied it. The room was ideal for wedding but for this intimate evening, the ambience was ruined by a massive space in the room, bright lights, no candles or lamps to set the mood as gentle, music was a classical compilation but raw and loud at times not soothing and romantic. Dishes left on the breakfast dresser from start to finish. Staff were efficient and polite but not overly friendly. We were curious about tastes of different vodka at the bar and it would have been great to have a tiny taste but I think that would have been against their discretion and they may think we're 'players' who are after free drink. So we didn't ask. Breakfast was good but we wanted more from the hot, full English... Not enough on plate. The room was superb and comfy and the extra large bed was a blessing to stretch out in. There were two extra radiators to warm up the room which we used as it was cold on our entry. Duvet was a little bit light so I think the tog was only a 10...and I wouldn't use their throw as I know people leave them on floor and didn't want to sleep with a flat matt on top of me as well for hygiene reasons. Little things like lamp shades were tilted and some picture frames too. Luncheon dishes were not cleared from lounge areas and cushions not made tidy in each lounge after other guests. Staff polite and welcoming. Fires on. Room clean and tidy.

Over all lovely stay room was clean and fit for purpose. More staff needed as it seem One man is the receptionist, bar tender and, server. No cocktail menu available probably due to lack of staff The tasting menu was lovely and well executed. Breakfast was lovely. Now the negatives!! Ruined a birthday surprise by divulging information at check in. It was my best friend 40th who I hadn’t seen in 6 months and her husband had whisked her off to the lakes for a surprise and I was going to surprise her. We spoke with reception about the birthday surprise on 2 different occasions. It was sad that all our planning was ruined by the hotel. I did have to ask to be compensated with a bottle of wine which I asked 2 times for. However we got over what happened it was just disappointing. Also we were kicked out of the bar at 11.30 and nothing to do other than go to our room. Plus some really yappy dogs were barking at everything and everyone.
