Danesfield House Hotel and Spa

A very disappointing stay. The property itself has charm and historical character, but the service and handling of charges were far below what I would expect from a luxury country house hotel. I booked through Ctrip/Trip.com and had communicated in advance that I preferred the traditional-style room shown in the photos. I understand that room requests cannot always be guaranteed. However, the issue was the way the hotel handled the upgrade afterwards. I was informed through the platform that the upgrade would be around £50 per night, £100 in total for two nights, which I agreed to. Less than ten minutes later, the payment link sent by the hotel suddenly became £200, meaning £100 per night, with no explanation or further confirmation. This felt very unprofessional and lacked transparency. The front desk service was also disappointing. Two bottles of water were requested but not delivered promptly; when we went downstairs to collect them, we were asked to sign a £14 bill. On the departure day, I was called after 11:00, but no one clearly informed me of the check-out time or that a late check-out fee would apply. When I checked out at 12:00, I was charged an additional £20. Overall, the hotel has the appearance of a refined English country house, but the service, communication and charging practices did not match the price or the luxury positioning. I would not recommend it. 非常失望的一次入住体验。酒店外观和历史感确实不错，但服务和收费方式完全配不上所谓豪华庄园酒店的定位。 我通过携程预订，并提前沟通希望入住图片中复古风格的房间。酒店表示会尽量安排，但最终没有做到，这一点我可以理解。真正让我不满的是后续升级费用的处理：原本通过平台沟通的升级费用约为每晚 £50，两晚共 £100，我也已经同意；但不到十分钟后，酒店发来的付款链接突然变成 £200，等于每晚 £100，且没有任何解释或再次确认。这种单方面改价的做法非常不专业，也让人感觉很不透明。 另外，入住期间前台服务也令人失望。多要两瓶水迟迟没有送到，自己下楼拿却被要求签单 £14。退房当天电话中也没有明确告知退房时间和延迟退房收费，结果 12 点退房时又被加收 £20。 整体感觉是：硬件有英式庄园的外壳，但服务细节、沟通方式和收费透明度都达不到这个价位应有的水准。不会推荐。

The location and the views are fantastic. The room we were given was very tatty, furniture was full of marks and knocks, windowsill had peeling paint and same with the bathroom. We complained so they put is in a modern room, in a separate building on the ground floor. That was better in terms of furniture quality.

What a beautiful hotel full of history and old English tradition we loved it a group of 6 girls for Henley regatta we would defiantly go again

Good one to celebrate birthday since they offer light chocolates. But will charge extra when you delay just 30 mins for check in without waiving even kitchen is slow for breakfast

From the moment we arrived at Danesfield House, we were treated extremely well. All of the staff were very helpful and could not do enough for us, even carrying our luggage to our room. Our room had a beautiful view over the river Thames and hotel gardens and the four poster bed was lovely and comfortable. The bathroom was lovely and clean and their were plenty of towels and toiletries. I had booked a treatment in the Spa for my wife and all of the staff were amazing. The Spa itself was very nice, and although the jacuzzi was out of action, this did not spoil the experience at all. Finally, our breakfast was wonderful. We were greeted and shown to our seats immediately. Our order was taken for our choice of breakfast by a lovely waitress and coffee and toast was brought to us by an absolutely wonderful waiter who had the biggest smile that never left his face the entire time we were in the restaurant. He was extremely polite and just made you smile with his infectious enthusiasm for the "fabulous filter coffee" and the "terrific toast" (his words, not mine) that he served us. I just wish I had his name to include with this review as he deserves a special mention. Overall it was a fantastic experience and the right choice of hotel to celebrate my wife's birthday. We will definitely be coming back.
