I was very satisfied with my stay this time. The hotel used to be the old Tang Hua Hotel, and the courtyard has pavilions and ancient trees. Strolling by the lake in the evening was especially comfortable. The location is also convenient; the Big Wild Goose Pagoda is just a short walk away, making it easy to return at night. David handled everything smoothly from check-in to check-out, answering all my questions. Jasmine recommended breakfast stalls and nearby small shops that suited my taste, and she reminded me to go during off-peak hours, which saved me a lot of hassle. I'll definitely stay here again next time I visit.

Overall a good hotel. Clean, nice amenities and generally good hardware. For a 5 star IHG luxury hotel, the service was consistently a bit average, whether iit was staff playing on their mobile phones in public areas, chatting instead of serving customers or the slow room service speed. Despite of the hotel selling ice cream in the lobby bar and restaurant, they refused to sell us ice cream after hours (9:20pm) because ice cream wasn’t on the room service menu. When I told front office staff that I’d promised my daughter ice cream and I’d pay an improvised price they said that the room service people don’t have a key to the freezer. It’ wasn’t a massive deal, but kind of exemplifies that a 5 star hotel is more than a brand name and marble bathrooms. If someone is looking for a decent hotel in the Chanba area of Xi’an, this hotel isn’t a bad choice. However, don’t expect staff to help out with special requests or generally providing 5 star services. Not quite up to IHG standards.
