Since Barcelo has such an impressive cluster of properties there, it feels huge and open. We booked to stay at Maya Colonial. Having been in Maya Beach in 2022, we knew our preference. However, upon arrival - and despite our complaining about it, they still assigned us a room in Maya Caribe. Know that booking in Beach, Caribe, Colonial, or Tropical makes ZERO difference. The room category we chose was available in all 4 locations, so they treat it as one big pool of rooms and put you wherever THEY feel like it. In our 2022 visit, they even split up our group and put half of us in Beach and the other in Colonial, so I suppose I should not have been surprised this time around. When you go to shows in the theatres, you might consider ear plugs. We were much more comfortable the 2nd night, once someone suggested that to us. The volume is out of control, and more than the speakers can handle. This causes some sound distortion and makes speech a little hard to understand. Apart from that, we love the property!! The staff are great, and the food is fantastic!! There are turtles right in the swimming area, so you can snorkel and follow them around for hours, should you wish.

Pros: There is tourist shopping (cheap and expensive) on the resort so it saves you time and money to get souvenirs and anything you forgot to bring with you. Drinks were pretty good and the pool was nice. Cons:The hotel is definitely dated and the rooms especially. Ours smelled like mold so bad that we had to wash even the clothes we didn’t wear when we got home because of the smell. The food was also terrible (breakfast was not bad).

Booked the Barcelo Colonial, was changed to Barcelo Beach. Was told that it was my travel agents fault. Was told there were no differences in these hotels. Spoke with others that this happened to too. We had 2 rooms, one of the rooms' key would work 2x and then not work. We went through over 10 keys, many unnecessary trips to the lobby. Was told that if we put by our phones next to our phone, the keys would erase. I had both room keys together and this only happened with the one room. No customer service at all at the front desk, put blame on someone or something else.

This is one of our favorite resorts we’ve stayed at in Riviera Maya. The staff was awesome. The food was great. Snorkeling was good right off the beach and there was plenty activities for kids and adults.

Great resort. We were upgraded to palace, which was beautiful. Being able to access the other 4 resorts meant endless dining, bar, and pool options. Everything was clean. The food was wonderful. There were great specialty dining options. 10/10 recommend

The property is quite large and signage is discrete which is great if your 20 but a big problem when you are older. The colonial has 2 side by side buildings with the same exact decoration- causing confusion for the mature set. Over the 5 days my watch was counting steps I took a total of 69000 . Yes there is some exercise mixed in, but most of those steps where based on the property's lay out. So bring good walking shoes when visiting But the food was very good and I have been to many "all inclusives" to compare it to. The beach is beautiful. A wonderful place for a family to gather.

My husband and I had fantastic getaway and would return! Staff: The staff were wonderful! We didn’t feel any pressure to tip, though we did WANT to tip because of how friendly and helpful they were. The Room: Our room was simple. We stayed in “Jalisco” - first floor with a garden view. It was a bit of a walk to the beach/buffets. But it was quiet and quite private. Other reviews mentioned having trouble with their key cards not working. We were told not to put it next to our phones. We stopped doing that and it worked. The Resort: It is a beautiful location! The beach and views are fantastic! Many reviews stated that they had to go at 7am to reserve chairs. This was not our experience. We were always be able to find 2 together. food: the buffets were decent. It took going a few times to find out what was worthwhile. We could always find something to enjoy! The coffee machines give you the option to make lattes, cappachinos, etc. Buffet and snack-bars ALWAYS had guacamole. Ala carte restaurants: we were able to book 5/9 of our nights different restaurants. Pro tip: go to reserve your restaurants right after you check in! The Cons: - the ocean does have a rocky portion (about 10-15 steps and then it’s nice and sandy). Pro tip: bring water shoes -The night entertainment is pretty meh. - I called the resort a few times before arrival (to inquire about shuttles and confirm our room) I ended up being on hold for long periods, or had to call back because no one answered.

Our recent family vacation at Barcelo Group turned out to be a major disappointment, primarily due to the resort's inability to accommodate our group appropriately. Despite meticulous planning for a long-awaited family gathering, the resort's arrangements left much to be desired. First and foremost, upon arrival, we were shocked to discover that our group, consisting of small children and elderly members, had been allocated accommodations in different hotels within the resort. This separation made it challenging for us to spend quality time together, as we constantly had to navigate between hotels. The frustration didn't end there. Despite making a reservation for dinner for our entire group of 11 people, the restaurant staff seated us at two separate tables upon our arrival. This glaring oversight was exacerbated by the fact that other large groups were comfortably seated together nearby. The lack of consideration for our reservation and the failure to accommodate our group in a single seating arrangement was deeply disappointing. The host's unhelpful demeanor and rudeness further soured our experience. Instead of offering assistance or attempting to rectify the situation, their attitude only served to exacerbate our frustration and disappointment. In conclusion, our experience at Barcelo Group fell far short of our expectations for a family-friendly vacation destination.
