I only stayed one night in this beautiful ryokan and in Yamanouchi but I could easily have stayed longer, as there seems to have trekking opportunities in the area. The ryokan itself is great on all levels: clean, quiet at night and has an authentic feel. The staff is very helpful and speaks fluent English. When you arrive, it will provide you with traditional Japanese clothing in which you'll wander by the streets, go to restaurants and most importantly, explore the 9 public and free onsen in the village. I slept in a 3 bed dormitory and hadn't slept so well for several days. A free shuttle service will bring you to the next bus station (perhaps train station as well)

Located in the center of Shibu Onsen Street, it is within a 10-minute walk to all nine major hot springs. There are relatively many dining options around the hotel, and the hotel's own restaurant has very good food. It is only less than 6 kilometers from the hotel to the Wild Monkey Park, and you can enjoy the pleasant countryside scenery along the way.

For better or worse, I got the impression that it was an old inn. However, the staff were polite. The rooms are equipped with air conditioning and air purifiers, but no TVs, so if you're traveling with friends, you might want to bring some entertainment items with you. There are no convenience stores or supermarkets nearby, so it's difficult to get anything locally...However, the inn does have some playing cards and party goods. One of each.

It's a nice inn in a nice hot spring town. Maachito Onsen ♨️♨️ is quite hot, so I will prepare myself next time.

Would highly recommend this inn for a stay in the Japanese Alps. The staff are absolutely amazing - nothing is too much trouble for them and they're always around to offer you help and support. There is a free shuttle service both to and from the train station and up to the Monkey park. The rooms are spacious and we were very comfortable on our futons ☺️ The onsen hopping is also a great attraction...worth the trip out of the city to see!

Well maintain Ryokan. Very clean and cozy. Large rooms with super comfortable beds (western). The restaurant is wonderful with innovative and fusion menu. The breakfast is really good with the best coffee. Staff is friendly, knowledgeable, kind and helpful. Excellent value!

The staff were very friendly and helpful making this a relaxed and comfortable stay. It is an old building but well kept. Not as fancy as some places down the road but extra charming. The public onsens were fun to try. Their shuttles are well organized and we had no trouble booking the times to private onsen and monkey park that we wanted. Excellent service and stay and would return and recommend to others.

This hotel and this city was the best part of my Japan trip. I loved staying in a traditional old Japanese ryokan, and I absolutely loved hoping around to all the onsens! Note, they are extremely hot! The staff was wonderful and very accomodating. They offer free shuttle rides to the monkey park or to the train station, so that is wonderful. Ate once there for breakfast, and it was delicious!

Check in process its smooth. Room - Japanese tatami room is spacious. You will make your own tatami bed. Its a good experience to understand japanese culture. But we are not sure how or if any proper way so we simply do our own way 😅. Restaurant - served western food. We take out the bagel 🥯as breakfast before heading to Snow Monkey Park. My kids say its yummy. Bathroom - shared bathroom on ground floor. Its clean and neat. Parking - walking distance to the ryokan (maybe less than 5 min). However, you can stop in front of the ryokan to drop off your luggage before park your car.

Authentic yet casual ryokan experience. Staff are so accommodating - picked us up at Yudanaka Station outside of normal pickup hours, advised us to stay in the waiting room (freezing cold in February). Following day, drove us to Snow Monkey Park, first stop to drop our luggage, then to the entrance. I accidentally left my Snow Monkey Pass in my luggage, and she drove me back to the first spot to retrieve it!! Thank you for your generous heart ;)))
