Senshinkan Matsuya

This was my favourite stay in Japan. The building is a beautiful old style Japanese building. The bedroom and sleeping arrangements were very comfortable. The owners went above and beyond to make sure we had a great stay, including explaining the process of the public onsens, shuttles to the monkey park and to the train station at check out. The use of the private onsen in the evening and morning was exceptional. I highly recommend this place, I would gladly return

I had a large tatami room with side sitting area and sink as well as an ante-room. I had three delicious Japanese meals at the ryokan that were served with polite elegance. The two in-house onsen baths were a joy to use after a day of skiing. The staff was knowledgeable about how to get around by the buses and suggested the best restaurants for days that I did not eat at the ryokan. Senshinkan Matsuya was situated in the center of.Shibu Onsen town next to three of the public onsen. I could not ask for a better stay!

I was shortlisting between 3 ryokan and this was definitely the right choice, lovely ryokan is nestled in the heart of the nine public baths of Shibu Onsen. Having stayed in numerous ryokan over the years, I can confidently say this is one of the most memorable. The attention to detail, hospitality, and overall atmosphere were exceptional. Nothing felt excessive; everything felt deliberate. The rooms are deeply authentic, with traditional architecture that has clearly been preserved and meticulously maintained over time. A private onsen is available for booking (one-hour slots) upon check-in and throughout your stay, which adds a level of flexibility and privacy that is not always guaranteed in traditional ryokan. The kaiseki dinner and authentic Japanese breakfast were the highlights. The Shinshu beef was excellent , even added an extra serving at my own expense & the sashimi was notably fresh and well-prepared. Opting in for the meals is a must! Parking is available in their private garage, approximately a 3–5 minute walk from the ryokan across the road, which is convenient given the narrow streets of the area. Guests are also provided a key granting complimentary access to all nine public bathhouses in Shibu Onsen, a privilege reserved exclusively for ryokan guests in the town. It significantly enhances the overall experience. The handsome chap during checked in also helped bring our luggage into our rooms Only downside is the nearest convenient store is 2km away (3 minutes to 5 minutes drive), please prepare your groceries before checking in. There is also a nearby popular sushi bar Kozushi should you want to get your sushi fix. A refined experience from start to finish.

This is a typical Ryokan. The welcome was great. We had a wonderful time. The room was very good. The dinner was excellent. The breakfast was also excellent. We were able to book the private onsen and appreciate it. The host was so kind. He drove us to the Snow Monkey Park without asking. We recommand the Senshinkan Matsuya.

There was a great opportunity! Ryokan is perfect. Owners of ryokan is kind and always ready to help. Onsen experience also great. This place to keep calm, relax and enjoy the silence.

Impeccable service, gracious hosts, beautifully maintained facility, comfortable bedding. This ryokan was everything and more we could have wished for! The private onsen amenity was an unexpected delight!

Such a magical stay and the service was spectacular. Personally I thought the yukata of this ryokan was more stylish than I saw tourists staying at other places wear.

Incredible stay here whilst attempting to see the nearby snow monkeys. The hotel was fantastic and we had an amazing Japanese experience! You got to spend time in the private onsen as a couple which was a nice bonus and included in the stay. We also had dinner and breakfast prepared and delivered to our room, the owners were amazing and kind and helpful and we would stay here again without hesitation. One of the best ryokan stays as part of my trip here.
