Hotel Higashidate

I hav booked a tatami room with private onsen. Upon check in, then we were informed by the counter that we hav been conned by trip.com as the photos in the website is not accurate. When I stepped into the room, I immediately want to change hotel as there is only one toilet with the spoiled bidet. Can you imagine a room with a shower room. We need to go to the public bath to take our shower. And the concierge keep on pushing us for early dinner and early breakfast. The breakfast time is only available from 7.30am to 8.30am. N we hav to drag ourselves up so early considering it is a winter holiday. The location is a bit remote, u cannot even find any convenience store nearby.

We escaped to the Hotel Higashidate for a long weekend of skiing. It was a last minute trip so we did some quick research and booked this hotel. It’s a more local Japanese style but our beds (2 twin but we made it work) were Western style. Our views of the mountains were lovely. The hotel is clean, the service excellent and the food delicious. I have allergies to fish and seafood (difficult allergies in Japan) and the hotel accommodated me with delicious dinners every night and good options at the breakfast buffet in the mornings. The location couldn't be better~ mid mountain at the top of one gondola and the bottom of a second. 1 min walk to trail! The onsen was wonderful and a treat at the end of a long day of skiing. We chatted with another couple who were on their 7th trip to Shiga Kogen but first to Hotel Higashidate. They said the food and service at Hotel Higashidate were far better than any they encountered in the other hotels they had stayed in previously in Shiga Kogen. We rented a car and drove from Narita (4.5-5 hours drive). the morning of our check out the hotel quietly arranged for our car to be warm and snow cleared off before we left! I would book again at the Hotel Higashidate without hesitation. We look forward to our return!

Such a kind staff and well managed property. If you want an authentic ski experience in the Japanese Alps, I highly recommend staying here. The included breakfast and dinner exceeded expectations and we never wanted to go anywhere else during our stay.

Excellent customer service. Facilities including room and hallways are a bit outdated and certain areas in need of repair.
