Great ryokan! Upon check-in, you receive a master key to visit the famous 9 public onsens of Shibu Onsen, along with recommendations for the best ones. They provide both geta sandals (for outdoor use) and regular slippers for inside the hotel, plus special stickers to mark your slippers so you don't mix them up. When you check in, you also get to choose your dinner and breakfast times. Everything was delicious. The room was very warm and cozy. The onsen has everything you need, even towels. There's an indoor hot pool and an outdoor pool.

Sakaeya was the perfect Ryokan. The service and attention here is impeccable. If there was anything to nitpit on, there would be 2 points: 1. checkout is rather early at 10AM. 2. meals include a lot of food and we were more than stuffed. Service is amazing, shoutout to Kanae for helping us from check-in to meals to check-out. She was the highlight of our stay!

Love this ryokan! The service was just amazing! We arrived the ryokan feeling cold and asked where we could get some heat pads and was told that since the ryokan provides free shuttle to train station, they could send us to convenient store. And before it, the staff came back with some mini heat pads for us to use for the meanwhile. There was also paid shuttle to snow monkey park (500 yen per pax one way) that you can arrange with them. We had a tatami room, it was spacious and the staff came to the room to do the check in and served tea and welcome snack to us. The ryokan guests are entitled to go to nine onsens around the area for free. The ryokan provides yukatas and all necessities for it. The meals were sumptuous and super yummy. Overall, a fantastic ryokan experience for us!

The rooms were very comfortable and clean, and the meals were exquisite. The butler-style service truly made us feel at home. Every staff member greeted us with a smile. The most memorable part was when they helped our family take photos in heavy snow without an umbrella; they were so friendly. We'll definitely come back if we get the chance.

One of the best authentic Ryokan experience you can find. Nested in a compact but beautiful onsen town. The hunt for the Stamps across the 9 public onsen was super fun for the family, despite us doing it in heavy rain! Strongly recommended. Ms Kanai took great care of us!
