Overall, I only give it a 2.5 out of 10. One point for the helpful and attentive front desk staff, one point for the relatively clean room with a bathtub and smart toilet, and 0.5 for the decent view, though not significantly better than hotels in Yangshuo County. There were also areas that looked like garbage dumps and other unsightly rooftops nearby.
The drawbacks are numerous:
1. The guesthouse has five floors but no elevator, making it very inconvenient for travelers with elderly members or heavy luggage.
2. The guesthouse is located in a village across the river from Xingping Ancient Town. To get to Yangshuo or the ancient town, you have to take a 5 RMB ferry across the river. The ferry stops running at 7 PM, meaning you must return before 7 PM. The village area is deserted; there aren't even streetlights near the ferry dock, making it inconvenient to explore. You're essentially confined to the guesthouse for the night.
3. The central air conditioning unit was probably moldy from long disuse. When turned on, the strong sour and musty smell made it unusable, requiring a long time to air out.
4. I don't know how frequently there are power outages, but... On the first day of my stay, there was a power outage for almost an hour. When I went to the restaurant, the power went out again. During the power outage, there was no water in the room, and the smart toilet didn't work. It was incredibly frustrating.
5. The room only had three bottles of mineral water on the first day. After drinking one, they wouldn't refill it the next day. There were also no tea bags or coffee packets.
6. The restaurant attached to the guesthouse was very poor value for money and not particularly tasty. Breakfast was very simple and the same every day: one egg, one long, thin sweet potato, one bowl of noodles, and self-service porridge and pickled beans, etc.
7. There was absolutely no soundproofing. Around midnight, I felt a person weighing about 200 pounds slamming up the stairs. Children were running and shouting in the hallway for a long time, waking us all up. It was incredibly annoying.
Other minor issues included a lot of mosquitoes, a very basic restaurant environment, and no bathrobes. In short, if your budget allows, you can definitely stay in a four-star hotel in Yangshuo County, or at least in Xingping Ancient Town; you definitely won't have such a bad experience.
