Okuyado Buaiso

The hot spring water was cold, and it felt like the hotel wasn't doing much business. We were practically the only guests, and many facilities were shut down. The drinks in the mini-fridge in our room were frozen solid. Our room was quite a distance from the restaurant. There were only three staff members, so it was often hard to find anyone. I'm not even sure if it's truly open for business.

When we arrived, we discovered there were no rooms reserved for us. The staff were very kind and let us stay at the owner's place directly. Although the check-in process took a long time, it was all worth it.

The shower stall was clogged with hair from a previous guest, and the drainage was poor. It was obvious the room wasn't cleaned thoroughly. When I went to the public onsen (hot spring), other guests were rummaging through my clothes while I was soaking, which startled me. Luckily, I didn't have any valuables with me. Around 1 a.m., someone rang our room bell. We didn't open the door and called reception, who said they would walk around the neighborhood and keep an eye out. But I felt so unsafe afterward and won't come back. This is the first time I've ever been this scared while staying in a hotel on a trip.

The open-air bath and the view of Mount Yufu were wonderful.
