I stayed here to celebrate my birthday. I wanted to relax, so I requested a room with an open-air bath, but there was a small problem, which was disappointing... But! The service after that was what you would expect from a first-class inn. After arriving, I was able to enjoy the open-air bath on the roof while watching the sunset over the edge of the mountain and the trajectory of airplanes heading west. I love Yugawara because of the good quality of the spring water, and the forest bathing effect of the location surrounded by mountains made it more relaxing than ever, and it was the most luxurious and blissful time. The open-air bath on the roof was extremely comfortable, and since I stayed on a Friday, there were not many other guests, so I had the large bath all to myself for a while. We had dinner and breakfast at the venue, but there was a staff member at the table seating in the private room. The wet conversation was also fun, and I felt that it added even more to the delicious food. Later, there was a small problem with the bath in the room later in the day, but the assistant manager dealt with it politely despite it being late at night, and the service afterwards was what you would expect from a first-class inn. The inn itself is a little old because it is a long-established establishment, and we had to change elevators to get from our room to the dining venue, which was confusing in places, but it was clean, the food was delicious as I mentioned earlier, and we had a great time, so we were very satisfied. There were many Western guests, and they were all well-mannered, so we were able to spend a comfortable time there. In addition to the polite hospitality, the service you would expect from a first-class inn is truly impressive. We are already talking about returning in another season. There are many good inns in Okuyugawara, but I think this is one in particular that you will definitely be satisfied with.

As part of a tour organized by Club Med Découvertes, I spent one night (March 31, 2023) in this ryokan. I occupied room 242. The establishment seems at the end of the world. The hotel itself has no particular charm, it is a modern building located in a narrow valley. The reception is ordinary. It seems that there are not many people at reception and generally one wonders where the staff is. It is therefore impossible to get information or help. Signage is non-existent or very confusing and it is easy to get lost in a maze of corridors. Once you arrive, we give you some advice: dress up in a kimono. The one in my room is a child's kimono! So a good point for being ridiculous. The room in question, although it is large (a large room with coffee tables, where a tatami and a futon will be deployed for the night, another small room, a separate toilet, a bathroom) is totally uncomfortable. It's low in the ceiling and as I'm tall I bumped into it a lot of times, or you have to walk bent over. Impossible to open the windows or take advantage of a mini terrace. The equipment is minimal: safe, empty minibar, no wifi everywhere, air conditioner that must be unplugged to have an electrical outlet near where you have to sleep, no bedside lamp, nothing to hang your things on. , insufficient pillows, no large bath towel, ... The comfort is really very basic. The bathroom includes a sink, a shower whose shower head cannot be hung at eye level, a sort of tray for enjoying the thermal waters. There is only one small towel, which is very insufficient. The only positive point is that it's quiet. The dinner was very average, although I must admit that efforts had been made to satisfy us with a menu containing I don't know how many dishes. The breakfast is Japanese, so not suited to my tastes. There is no bar. I didn't try the onsen, not being at all ready to walk around naked in front of strangers. In summary, and as far as I am concerned (I understand very well that one could have a different opinion), this night is more folklore than hotel business. And I think the quality/price ratio is catastrophic, when you see the price of the night on online reservation sites. At this price you can find a 4 or 5* hotel without any problem. I will never try a similar experience when I return to Japan.

It was a terrible inn that was not worth the price. There was nothing wrong with the facilities, but I was surprised at the low level of the staff. The inn is a style where you enter through the entrance on the first floor and check in on the second floor, but as soon as we went up from the first floor to the second floor, the staff on the second floor told us that the place was full and to go down to the first floor and wait. At this point, I thought this inn was no good. We stayed with six people, and at first glance there was a table that could seat six people (right in front of us), and there was no one else standing and waiting. Four of the six people were elderly, and one was walking with a cane and dragging his feet, but instead of encouraging us to sit down, they told us to go down to the first floor and wait. . We had just been guided to the second floor and had come up. I was stunned. This inn has no hospitality at all, even though it is a Japanese inn. And the staff serving the food in the private rooms are the worst. First of all, they threw out the wet towels. That is rude, it's unacceptable. The food was served rudely, and I have never met a waiter who clattered dishes so loudly. It stinks of cigarettes, has no class, and that kind of customer service lowers the quality of the food. There are many other things, but I can't write them all here, so I won't. This is a judgment based on experience and comparison with other hotels, but this is not a good place to stay for this price. It left a bad impression on me, and I will never stay at this hotel again.

I've lost count of how many times I've been here, but my family's favorite inn is a cozy hot spring inn located in the quiet mountains of Okuyugawara. The exterior walls are quite old, and for a moment you might think, "Eh?" (lol), but the inside has been moderately renovated and is a beautiful, relaxing inn. Above all, the spring water and food are delicious. Staying in a hot spring, eating Japanese food, and relaxing is what a Japanese vacation really is.

I booked a plan that upgraded my room in exchange for late check-in and early check-out (although that was the only room available...). The room was spacious, and I could see greenery from the window, and the quiet, calm a**osphere made me feel relaxed. The overall a**osphere was not new, but on the contrary, the old-fashioned feel was refreshing and nice. The actual room was better than the photos on the web lol. The dining room was also a private room, which was nice. There was nothing around, so I think it was suitable for a quiet and relaxing time. The temperature is different for everyone, but personally, I think the bath water was very hot, so I would have liked it to be a little warmer so I could have spent more time in it. I was able to stay in the open-air bath for longer. Also, the size indication for the yukata? jinbei? was difficult to understand. I think it would be more helpful for elderly people if they could immediately tell me M or L. Other than that, it was good overall.

I came here with friends to celebrate my 60th birthday. I thought the semi-open-air bath was a hot spring, but it was only the large public bath. It wasn't cheap so I was a little disappointed, but I think the large public bath is good. The 8th floor is for men and women to switch between, while the 2nd floor is for men and women. They offer free draft beer for an hour from 5pm, and you can drink coffee and tea anytime, but the after-meal dessert service was nice. It's currently undergoing renovations, which is unfortunate, but the inn was very considerate. It seems there are a lot of repeat customers.

I checked in around 2:30pm, which was right when it was busy, and there was no one at the entrance (´；ω；｀) I knew the way so I went to the second floor, but it seems like first-timers would be confused. It would have been nice if they had said something like, "We'll show you around in order." There was also no response after I picked up the phone regarding some issues with the large communal bath, and there was some kind of commotion on the other end complaining about the situation (￣▽￣;)If they do answer the phone, they should focus on the customer on the phone first. It felt like the quality had gone down overall this time, and as it is such a nice inn, I sincerely hope that it will improve. The food was lovely and delicious as always.

Used as a birthday trip. Stayed here full of expectations. However, I thought it was a luxury inn in name only and not worth the price, so I would like to write about it. First of all, even though it claims to be a luxury inn, the person who greets us at the door is a female intern. He has a hunched back and looks untidy in his suit, which arouses anxiety. The hotel lobby cannot be described as clean, the hallways are full of stains, and the chairs and tables in the lobby are covered in scratches. Also, you will have to wait an unbelievable amount of time to check in. Are the arrangements not in place? The next thing I noticed about the room. This time, we stayed at Nioumiya, which has an open-air bath in each room. The moment I entered the room, the a**osphere was unpleasant. A gloomy and dark impression. Also, the window glass was not cleaned and was dirty. The open-air bath was also covered in moss, so it was difficult to say that it was kept well-cleaned. The washrooms and restrooms are old-fashioned and do not look like a 25,000 yen per person inn. The hot springs inside the hotel had not been cleaned of dead leaves in the outside bath, and there were dead insects inside. The electric fan in the changing room was covered in dust, and when the wind came out, the dust was waving around. Also, the inside of the basket for storing used towels was full of mold and was unsanitary. Next, let's talk about food. This is by far the worst inn I've ever stayed in. There's no taste of the soup stock, the flavor of the food is vague, the main meat is cut into small pieces, and the sashimi is only about half the size of the 100 yen sushi toppings. I didn't feel like I was eating anything. This time, since I was pregnant, I informed them in advance that there was a menu that was different from the menu that pregnant women could not eat, and when I pointed it out, the person in charge yelled at the kitchen. The voices were echoing all the way to me and I didn't feel good. Also, before getting on the elevator on the way home, the private room was close by and I could hear the employees loudly complaining to each other. Also, when I was sorting out my luggage after returning home, I discovered that the lid of the unopened Mitsuya cider that had been stored in the refrigerator from that day until checkout had been opened, and the contents had decreased. I checked with my husband, but he didn't drink, so I wonder if someone at the hotel did it? It was a shock. I don't want to stay at this inn again.
