This guesthouse is absolutely amazing, so good that it deserves a lengthy, glowing review. First off, the environment is exceptionally beautiful. It's located right inside the national forest park, just a short walk past the Zimugang ticket station. Perched on the hillside, the guesthouse boasts a large lawn, perfect for travelers with dogs, and the scenery is breathtaking. From the guesthouse entrance, you get a panoramic view of the stunning forest. There's a huge fireplace on the first floor that the owner lights for guests every day, and he even serves his own homemade tea – a truly warming touch on a cold winter's day. The owners also have two dogs and a cat that are very friendly and played with us. On top of that, the owner and his junior apprentice helped us plan our itinerary, and they did an excellent job; all we had to do was follow their suggestions for a fantastic experience. Breakfasts were different every day, and they thoughtfully added shredded ginger to the meals to help us warm up. We also got to experience the beauty of the rainy season and the post-snowfall landscape. Every evening, we were treated to authentic Tujia cuisine prepared by the owner, which was incredibly delicious – easily on par with Michelin-starred restaurants! Since it was the off-season, all the guests at the guesthouse, along with some local villagers, mingled and had a great time together. It was a truly immersive experience of the hospitable Tujia culture, and we've already decided to come back in the summer.
Beyond all that, I must especially commend the owner's sense of responsibility. On our second day, the road to the middle gate was blocked by snow, preventing entry. The owner personally escorted us into the scenic area and helped us find a car to take us to Shuiraosimen, which made us feel incredibly safe. Since we drove there, when it was time to leave, the mountains were covered in snow and ice, and we didn't have snow chains. The owner went above and beyond, finding the right size snow chains for us and, with the help of enthusiastic villagers, even assisted us with installing them. Fearing we might be cold, he brought us back inside to warm by the fire and offered us hot tea. All in all, I'd give Zhangjiajie Scenic Area 100 points for this trip, and the owner and his junior apprentice at Zilong Mingju a million points.
I wish the owner thriving business and hope to see him again!
