A Dated Stay with Some Redeeming Features (5/10)
We booked this hotel based on the overwhelmingly positive reviews, but unfortunately, our experience didn't quite match the 9.5/10 rating we saw online.
The property feels like a dated mountain chalet from the 90s. While it has some nice wooden architectural details that give it character, the overall condition is quite worn. The rooms and common areas are in desperate need of a deep clean, a fresh coat of paint, and general maintenance. There was also a noticeable musty smell throughout the property.
Additionally, the breakfast was practically non-existent, so be prepared to explore outside the hotel for your morning meals. Wulingyuan as a destination also felt a bit tired, which didn't help the overall experience.
On a positive note, if you are traveling with a group of friends, the lobby area is a decent place to hang out. They have a pool table and a fridge stocked with beer (available for purchase), which is convenient after a long day.
I understand that running a hospitality business is challenging and renovations require significant capital. However, I think a more realistic rating for this guesthouse would be around a 5/10 in its current state.
