Shanshui Hotel

Stayed at this hotel with my husband, and it was a delightful experience! The location is fantastic, the staff are incredibly welcoming, and the breakfast spread is superb. They even provided a complimentary ride to the train station. The accommodations themselves were excellent, making our stay truly enjoyable. 🤗🤗

The hotel's location is superb, a genuine river view room, and the main scenic spots are just a few minutes' walk away. Although the hotel isn't new and its exterior is unremarkable, the interior facilities are excellent, and the decor is quite nice, not looking old at all. The room is very spacious, and the soundproofing is good, making it very quiet. There are two 1.5-meter beds, and the best part is the extra duvet – a joy for those traveling with kids! We finally got a really good night's sleep. The breakfast was also quite generous. Satisfied!

When searching for this hotel online, you might mistake the photos for the three high-rise buildings. In reality, the photos are misleading. The hotel is a wooden building right on the river. The riverside location is crucial in this town, as you can reach the main square, which is bustling every evening, in just a few minutes on foot, either along the riverbank or through the old alleyways. The lights come on at dusk, and the old town is revealed in all its splendor. Zhijiang offers a wealth of culture. Taxi drivers are readily available for a small fee. There are various light shows at the bridge in the evenings. The hotel is well-equipped. The staff was very helpful and fulfilled all our requests. The room was well-appointed and very clean. The river view is interesting. Breakfast is a Chinese buffet. Coffee is available. Noodle soup is included and can be ordered. Dinner is good, with the à la carte menu available. Beer and other drinks are also available. The hotel is in a very quiet location.

Overall, it was good. The parking lot is located opposite the hotel, which is inconvenient for guests to get in and out of their cars during rainy or windy weather; this needs improvement. The guest rooms had good views, and the breakfast was also good. However, the service staff could still improve.

Advantages: Driver-friendly, beautiful scenery, soft bedding, convenient transportation, TV with built-in Tencent Video membership. Disadvantages: Outdated facilities, awkward operation, bathtub hygiene concerns, room lacks light blocking; light sleepers should be cautious. Parking is convenient, with dedicated parking lots on both sides. The hotel lobby is grand, and check-in is quick. Because it's a stilted building, the front desk mentioned there are two underground levels. We stayed on the basement level. From our room, we could see the beautiful scenery of the Wushui River and the covered bridge, as well as people strolling on the riverside boardwalk. So, except when specifically looking at the scenery, we kept the curtains drawn. The room facilities were rather old-fashioned. The smart toilet broke down several times during my stay 😫. Most smart toilets flush automatically, but this one didn't seem to; it just beeped and I had to press a button on the side. However, twice after using it, I found that no matter how I pressed the button, only a tiny bit of water came out, and then nothing else happened. It was so embarrassing; getting any water was entirely a matter of luck… The second time, I complained to the front desk, and the moment the maintenance staff arrived, it suddenly worked! 🤦 I tried it again before checking out, haha, and it didn't work again, so I had to use the public restroom in the lobby. Also, the bathroom glass door had a problem sealing; even when the door was closed tightly, water kept leaking out. After showering, my bath mat got wet instantly. Ugh 😮💨 The overall cleanliness was okay, but only if you don't use the bathtub. The bathtub was immediately noticeably dirty, with a lot of visible dirt inside. But we didn't plan to use it anyway, so we didn't complain to the front desk. The bedding, on the other hand, was clean and soft against the skin. And most importantly!! The room has no light blocking! The right-hand floor-to-ceiling window only has a single Venetian blind, so the room is bright as soon as it gets light, waking anyone sensitive to light instantly. I hadn't made any plans for Zhijiang, intending to wake up naturally and comfortably the next day, so I went to bed late the night before. But!!! In this brightly lit room, with dark circles under my eyes and a belly full of resentment, I simply couldn't fall back asleep 😭

It's been a long time since I've been to the Shanshui Hotel. As expected of a long-established hotel, despite its history, the room decor doesn't feel dated; on the contrary, it's quite distinctive. Aside from the narrow road in front and the difficulty of parking, there are no major drawbacks. I think it would be best to eliminate parking in the area in front of the hotel; it's too congested.
