Le Méridien Zhongshan

I originally booked for one night, thinking it was decent value for money, and didn't pay much attention to some things. However, on the second night, I discovered a whole host of problems. 1. I clearly booked for two nights, but the front desk only issued me a key card for one night. On the second evening, I went upstairs to my room and couldn't open the door. This forced me to go up and down twice. 2. For some reason, the towels at this hotel shed an incredible amount. After showering, when I dried myself, my body and face were covered in these tiny white fibers (and I double-checked to make sure it wasn't skin flakes). Perhaps the first issue I encountered was an isolated incident, but I have to say, this was a really bad experience.

Le Méridien is one of my favorite hotel brands, and Le Méridien Zhongshan definitely upholds the brand's style. The lobby is spacious, grand, and beautiful. The front desk staff were lovely, gentle, and elegant. We were pleasantly surprised when they upgraded our room and even offered complimentary breakfast during check-in! The hotel rooms are well-equipped, the bedding and mattress are comfortable, and everything is clean, with warm and thoughtful service. On the second day of our stay, which happened to be Chinese New Year's Day and also my birthday, the hotel surprised me with a delicate cake 🎂, a bottle of red wine, and a beautiful birthday card. It was such a heartwarming gesture! I never expected Le Méridien to be so thoughtful and caring. Thank you, thank you! I'll definitely choose Le Méridien Zhongshan again if I visit Zhongshan in the future.

This was the hotel I had the lowest expectations for during my 10-day Guangdong trip, and indeed, the accommodation itself was pretty average. However, to be fair: **Pros:** 1. **Spacious Room:** The room was large enough, with ample space for the sofa, coffee table, desk, and even the bunk beds, making everything feel comfortable. Given that property prices in Zhongshan aren't high, and since we drove, the parking was convenient with plenty of charging stations. 2. **Birthday Surprise:** On the day of our check-in, it was a family member's birthday, and the hotel proactively provided a cake. It was simple but tasted good. 3. **Excellent Breakfast:** Surprisingly, the hotel breakfast wasn't as mediocre as the room's standard. It continued the excellent impression we had from Le Méridien in Shenzhen – very rich, well-prepared, and with a large, uncrowded dining area. 4. **Convenient Location:** The Port Children's Park is right downstairs, perfect for letting the kids burn off some energy quickly. Ordering takeout was also very convenient. 5. **Fantastic Pool:** Although it's operated by a third party, it's very well-managed! The water temperature was just right, and it opened early, which was great for someone like me who swims daily. My only complaint is that the toiletries in the pool showers were terrible – an unknown brand of orange liquid. I ended up showering back in my room. **Cons:** 1. **Dated Decor & Price:** At 780 RMB, the room is considered pricey for Zhongshan. The interior decor and smart features were almost non-existent; it felt like a renovation from over a decade ago. 2. **Hidden Coffee Vouchers & Poor In-Room Coffee:** The hotel's complimentary coffee vouchers were hidden within a promotional set for the bedding, and I only discovered them upon checkout. There was no coffee machine or good tea bags in the room; I even had to ask customer service to bring up instant black coffee. 3. **Noisy Bunk Bed:** The bunk bed frame creaked loudly every time I turned over, leading to a restless night's sleep.

The room's location is excellent, right next to a shopping mall, and there are kids' play facilities downstairs, which is great for children. The hotel has been open for a few years, so some of the facilities are a bit dated, but they're still well-maintained. There's a big bathtub, and my child really enjoyed bath time. What's worth complaining about, though, is the poor water seal in the shower – water overflows onto the bathroom floor every time we shower, making it all wet. The staff service was good; when our key card stopped working on the second day, they promptly sent someone up with a new one.

I've never encountered such terrible service. On the first day, during check-in, the kids' toiletries weren't delivered all afternoon. I asked multiple times, and finally they offered me a complimentary breakfast, even though my room already included breakfast. They didn't explain the parking procedure, then blamed the guests for it. We were staying for several days, and I had to fly out for business in the middle of it, returning to the hotel late at night. Because my child was asleep, I couldn't leave the room, so I asked if the hotel could help deliver some takeout to my room. They agreed, but then I waited for half an hour, and only after three reminders did they finally bring it up. You can see their attitude in the pictures – I've truly never seen such poor service at a 5-star hotel.
