A peaceful step back in time – Alte is the real Algarve! 🌿
Alte completely stole my heart! This little village in the Algarve hills feels like the most authentic and untouched corner of Portugal. We visited as a day trip from the coast (about 30-40 minutes drive from Albufeira or Vilamoura), and it was the perfect escape from the busy beaches.
The narrow cobblestone streets, whitewashed houses with colorful flowers spilling from every balcony, and traditional chimneys are incredibly picturesque. We loved wandering around the historic center, visiting the beautiful Fonte Grande natural springs, and walking down to the Queda do Vigário waterfall and river pools – the water was so refreshing and the scenery is stunning.
It’s wonderfully quiet and local. We had a delicious, affordable lunch at one of the small family-run restaurants (fresh fish, homemade desserts – highly recommend!), and the people were so friendly. There’s a lovely relaxed vibe here that you rarely find anymore in the more touristy parts of the Algarve.
If you’re looking for the “real” Portugal – peaceful, traditional, and full of charm – Alte is an absolute must-visit. Perfect for a half-day or full relaxed day. We’ll definitely be back!
