Okaminato Shrine 12-48 Sendomachi, Ashiya-machi, Onga-gun, Fukuoka Free parking available (approx. 10 spaces) 093-223-0216 Illuminations held during Golden Week (Canceled in case of rain) We visited Okaminato Shrine, where many Nanjamonja trees are planted, blooming with cute, white, and fluffy flowers. "Okaminato" is an ancient name for the Ashiya area. Read as "Okanominato," it appears in the Nihon Shoki (The Chronicles of Japan) written as "崗之水門". Boasting an impressive 1,800-year history, it is also mentioned in the Kojiki (Records of Ancient Matters). The main enshrined deities are Okuranushi-no-Mikoto and Tsuburahime-no-Mikoto, as recorded in the Nihon Shoki. Additionally, Amaterasu-Sume-Oomikami, Emperor Jimmu, and Susanoo-no-Mikoto are enshrined together in the joint shrine.

They use ductless, smokeless gas roasters, so you can enjoy your meal in total comfort without any of the annoying smoke. They have eight raised seating tables that fit six people each, plus a larger tatami room that can accommodate banquets of up to 60 people! Will be renovated in 2026 to be barrier-free. You can enjoy cherry blossoms and azaleas in the spring, and stunning red maple leaves in the fall. We highly recommend taking a stroll along the park's walking trails to truly experience the changing seasons. Since the Genkai Sea is famous for its thriving squid industry, you might even spot the lights of squid fishing boats at night!

The seafood rice bowls are a highlight, starting at just 1,000 yen. This time, I went with the marinated seafood bowl. It featured salmon, tuna, sea bream, and more, perfectly marinated in a savory sauce—it was absolutely delicious! On weekends, they also offer a sushi buffet where you can enjoy pieces starting at 100 yen each. The terrace is completely pet-friendly, so you'll often see plenty of dog lovers hanging out.

They also offer a wide variety of izakaya menu items, and everything is so good you'll want to try it all. Lunch is available during the day, starting at just 1,100 yen. The hamburger steak comes with a salad, a drink, and rice, guaranteed to leave you perfectly full and satisfied.

Hi no Sabou is a wonderful shop where you can savor delicious teas from Kyushu and various tea-infused sweets. The inside of the shop is packed with an array of tea leaves, teaware, and baked goods for sale. Out on the terrace in front of the shop, you can relax and enjoy their anmitsu, parfaits, and, of course, freshly brewed tea. Thanks for the delicious treat! 🙏

It’s an invaluable facility where you can learn about the traditional iron tea kettles that remain in Ashiya-machi, an area that flourished as a tea ceremony hub in the Muromachi period. The Japanese garden is absolutely gorgeous; you can enjoy cherry blossoms in spring and vibrant foliage in autumn. Ages 18 and older: 300 yen High, Junior High, and Elementary School students: 100 yen Preschoolers get free admission, and for an extra 400 yen, you can enjoy a bowl of matcha paired with traditional Japanese sweets. The traditional sweets reflect the changing seasons. During the festivals held a few times a year, you can even enjoy specialty sweets ordered from across the country!

Ashiyagama no Sato History Museum 1558-3 Yamaga, Ashiya-machi, Onga-gun, Fukuoka 093-223-5881 9:30 AM - 5:00 PM Closed on Mondays Ashiya kettles (Ashiyagama) are traditional tea ceremony kettles crafted in Ashiyatsu Kanaya, Chikuzen Province, starting around the Nanboku-cho period. Kyoto's nobility highly favored their elegant "Shinnari" shape and the graceful patterns adorning the body of the kettles. Although production ceased in the early Edo period, Ashiya kettles remain a highly treasured centerpiece in modern tea ceremonies. Today, Ashiya kettles account for 8 of the 9 tea ceremony kettles designated as National Important Cultural Properties in Japan. One of these masterpieces is currently housed at Ashiyagama no Sato. The other seven are preserved in prominent museums across the country.

This time I came to Touyacho, looking for a quiet place to stay away from the hustle and bustle for a night, National Dormitory Ocean Terrace Tungya Hotel really exceeded expectations - one night, two meals, excellent food, quiet enough environment, perfect for friends who want to slowly enjoy the scenery and food. The hotel is right on the edge of the cliff and once you enter the room you can see the unbeatable sea and beautiful sunsets, really quiet from morning to night. Although the hotel is a bit remote (self-drive is recommended, or the hotel shuttle after the ride), but that is exactly what you can thoroughly enjoy the natural scenery and tranquil air. If you like hiking, there is also a cave mountain nearby where you can take a slow walk, which is definitely a great value for relaxation. The room facilities are mainly Japanese-style tatami layout, which is designed with great care. There are tea sets and snacks, and the details are done enough. Some room types also have large windows overlooking the sea, which makes you feel relaxed when you wake up. The room was new and bright enough for a comfortable and clean stay. Only some of the rooms do not have a separate bathroom, to go to the public bath, however the victory is the bath is well maintained and fresh enough, the atmosphere is romantic. Service is definitely to be more than Like, the staff is highly cooperative, friendly and willing to help. The shuttle arrangement is very courteous, from the train station to the hotel, no self-drive is not afraid of looking around. The hotel includes one night, two meals, and multiple Japanese packages for dinner, using fresh sashimi and authentic ingredients - the most impressive thing is cooking specialty pots with an alcoholic oven, watching the golden sunset from a window seat, one of life's great enjoyment. The breakfast is Japanese-style. After eating, I am so full that I don't have to think about lunch. Photo spots must recommend the lobby sea view window, both morning and dusk light are extremely beautiful, plus the outdoor terrace or walk to the beach to take pictures of the sunset is great. The hotel's common space is so comfortable that I couldn't leave after sitting all night. Hotels are remote and need to allow more time for Check-in and transportation, it is recommended to drive or contact the hotel in advance to arrange a shuttle. The baths are more crowded at some times, and if you want to enjoy them slowly, you can choose the morning or late night hours. If you are looking for a peaceful, view and food-focused holiday, National Dormitory Ocean Terrace Luwu Hotel is definitely worth a try. Ashiya Sand Sculpture Exhibition 2025 ~Beyond Time and Space~ The Ashiya Sand Sculpture Exhibition, which started on October 24th, is themed around dinosaurs this year 🦖🦕. It was absolutely stunning again this year ✨✨. I had always wanted to see the combination of sand sculptures and fireworks 🎆. Although it was a cold and windy day, the view was breathtaking ✨✨. The light-up show is held on weekdays as well, but on weekends, you can enjoy fireworks after the light-up show at 8 PM 🎇. We bought tickets on the day, but if you purchase them in advance at a convenience store, you can enter without waiting in line. Please check the official website for more details. The park's observation deck offers a panoramic view of the Hibikinada Sea. On windless, clear days, you can enjoy the crystal-clear waters. From here, you can also see the floating offshore windmills! This is a popular spot for couples, as you can attach a padlock to the Lovers' Sanctuary monument, "INFINITY LOVE." I was attracted by the soft serve ice cream ornament, but it's actually a bakery. The shop is run by a dog lover, and they also have bread for dogs. This time I had the round bread soft serve. The bread, made with yeast from peaches in the garden, was slightly sweet and delicious. The soft serve ice cream made with Aso milk was refreshingly sweet and easy to eat. #Fukuoka Attractions Coming to this magical and stunning scenery of Dongshan is like stepping into a magnificent landscape painting carved by nature. Climbing up along the winding and rugged hiking trail, you will be surrounded by strangely shaped stone peaks, some of which are tall and steep, some of which are low and twisted, forming a unique and colorful mountain landscape. When passing through a narrow mountain path, a huge natural stone cave suddenly appeared next to it, as if it was a natural tunnel that directly cut through the mountain. From the entrance of the cave, one can actually see the mountains on the opposite side. We carefully explored the cave and found that it was deep and wide. The naturally formed stalactites looked like rows of natural sculptures, which was extremely spectacular. Passing another cliff area, we suddenly saw stone sculptures of giants sitting in a row, with their bodies in different postures and looking lifelike. Looking into the distance, the outlines of the peaks in the distance are like huge stone lions sitting upright. Looking from afar, the entire stone mountain stands like a giant statue carved naturally. The scenery is undoubtedly a unique wonder. We slowly wandered among the magnificent landscapes created by nature, deeply impressed by the uncanny workmanship of nature, and became one with these strange mountains and rocks, appreciating their grandeur and eternal cultural connotations.

It was very interesting to learn about its history as a bustling post town and the US military base that once stood there.
