The Amsterdam Sail Festival makes a grand return after ten years, coinciding with Amsterdam's 750th anniversary, promising an unprecedented visual spectacle. Starting today, tall ships and their accompanying vessels will traverse the North Sea Canal, sailing towards Amsterdam, offering spectators a magnificent maritime experience. Dutch public broadcaster NOS will provide live coverage, allowing you to experience the grandeur of the event without being there in person. From 9:30 AM, you can follow the fleet live as it sails from IJmuiden to the IJ River, witnessing the awe-inspiring spectacle of the ships in motion. NOS's YouTube channel also offers a 360-degree live stream of the Peruvian four-masted sailing ship BAP Unión, allowing you to admire the beauty of the tall ship from various angles. At 2:00 PM, the sail parade will be broadcast on NPO 1, with NOS reporters providing full coverage from the water, docks, and throughout the city, ensuring you don't miss any exciting moments. Amsterdam Mayor Halsema and Prince Maurits of Orange-Nassau will board the leading tall ship, the 'City of Amsterdam,' entering the harbor to a cannon salute, adding solemnity and honor to the event. This edition of the Sail Festival will continue until August 24th, and the next one won't be until 2030, making it an absolute must-see.
