I have to praise the spaciousness of the new building; all room types overlook the Nile River! The old building’s vintage corridor is exactly like a scene from an Agatha Christie movie. Walking along the red-carpeted corridor, I almost felt like I had traveled back to the set of "Death on the Nile" 🎬 The biggest surprise was the extra-large river-view balcony outside the room, furnished with rattan armchairs and a tea table. In the evening, buy two bottles of local Egyptian beer and watch the sunset turn the Nile golden, with traditional feluccas on the river becoming a natural backdrop 🛶 Remember to choose rooms 2, 6, or 19 to avoid street noise and enjoy a perfect river view. The hotel location is super convenient, just a 5-minute walk to the commercial street. If you want fast food, there’s a KFC next door (who understands the joy of eating fried chicken in Egypt). The best part is the hotel’s own dock; you can arrange a Nile River cruise in advance with the front desk, saving the hassle of finding a boatman. We took a small boat to the temple, and from afar, we could see the grand columns emerging from the lake—a truly spectacular sight. Inside the temple, intricate carvings, hieroglyphs, and depictions of gods' stories can be admired. Every wall and column exudes the sacred atmosphere of ancient Egypt. Compared to other popular temples, Philae Temple is quieter and more serene. This century-old legendary hotel not only boasts the most beautiful sunset on the Nile but is also the birthplace of Agatha Christie's "Death on the Nile"! 📍Sofitel Legend Old Cataract Aswan 🏠Address: Abtal El Tahrir Street, Sheyakhah Oula, Aswan 1, Egypt ⭕️The hotel is divided into the old wing and the new wing. The old wing has lower floors and was the filming location for the movie "Death on the Nile," with prices around 3000 RMB; the new wing has higher floors. If you want to capture a bird’s-eye view of the Nile (photo 9️⃣), you must stay in the new wing and choose the Prestige Nile View Suite with a terrace. It’s recommended to stay above the 5th floor; we stayed on the 7th floor, with prices around 6000 RMB. ⭐️Afternoon Tea There are two types of afternoon tea: Agatha Christie’s at 2750 EGP/person and The Legend at 3250 EGP/person. We chose the latter. Besides the savory items being okay, the desserts were too sweet, and the bread was very dry. You could say you’re paying for the view, and the sunset 🌅 is truly stunning‼️ ⚠️Non-hotel guests must pay a 1000 EGP entrance fee to enter the hotel, which can be deducted from dining expenses, but with many people, you might not get a riverside seat. ⭐️Room Tour Gather in the lobby at 5:00 PM daily to join the Room Tour, visiting Agatha’s Suite 1201 and Churchill’s Suite 1101. Both rooms are very spacious and located directly above The Terrace. Churchill’s room has a small kitchen and a huge terrace where you can see the Nile bathed in golden light at sunset! After the Room Tour, head straight to the afternoon tea area to watch the sunset~ sunset, feluccas, palm trees, the Nile—at this moment, 6000 RMB is worth it! ⭐️Restaurant The hotel has four restaurants; we visited 1902 Restaurant and The Terrace~ 1902 Restaurant is a French restaurant where Churchill, Princess Diana, and others have dined. The decor feels like stepping into a royal palace, and there’s piano music at night! We ordered roasted lamb chops and grilled mushrooms, which were okay; the sea bass is not recommended as it lacked flavor~ The Terrace is a terrace restaurant where you can enjoy views of the Nile and Elephantine Island opposite. We recommend sitting at the second table from the left along the river, overlooking the spot in photo 5️⃣~ I think this place tastes better than 1902 Restaurant. The meat sauce pasta and grilled chicken wings are recommended!

Other Egypt is tiring, but it's a place you can easily explore on your own. (Crime, such as pickpocketing, is rare.) Taxis are almost always InDrive. Uber drivers often ask for ridiculous amounts and force cash payments. ATMs generally work well. However, there are occasional issues with cash dispensers, so video recording is essential every time you withdraw money. International student ID cards offer half-price admission. Even if you don't have one, try it. When bargaining, always negotiate to at least half the asking price. For example, if someone asks for 100 pounds, offer 20 or 30 pounds. That way, you can get it for around 55 pounds, the mid-range price, and you'll be less likely to get ripped off. When haggling with taxi drivers, be prepared to haggle for an hour. Since we're the "lower-priced" vendors, they won't easily lower the price. The easiest places to shop are those with fixed prices. For reference, a 500ml bottle of water costs 3 pounds. Anything more expensive than that is considered a rip-off. There's a tipping culture, but honestly, it's okay not to tip. However, if the person provides excellent service, 20-50 pounds is acceptable. If they ask for more because they don't have enough, just say you're a student and don't have the money. 8. In Conclusion Egypt is one of my favorite travel destinations. Also, keep in mind that a lot of the information on YouTube is exaggerated. (I'm not saying you shouldn't be careful.) Our final day in Jordan included the surreal experience of floating in the Dead Sea, followed by a relaxing evening in Amman. Egypt (Days 7–13): Flying to Cairo, we connected to an overnight train to Aswan, where we visited the serene Philae Temple and began our Nile cruise. The excursion to Abu Simbel was awe-inspiring, and sailing to Kom Ombo, Edfu, and Luxor revealed temple after temple of astonishing grandeur. Seeing Luxor Temple illuminated at night was especially memorable. The Valley of the Kings offered a chance to step into pharaohs’ tombs before we continued to Hurghada for a Red Sea break. A full day of snorkeling in crystal-clear waters was the perfect change of pace before returning to Cairo. Our trip concluded with the legendary Giza Pyramids and Sphinx, the Egyptian Museum’s treasures, and shopping at Khan El Khalili bazaar. The Egyptian economy is built almost entirely on tourism from the famous pyramids at Giza to the resorts on the Red Sea. But there’s one harder to get to location thats definitely worth the effort: Abu Simbel and with daily flights from Cairo with Egyptair it’s worth the effort. Although you can fly from Cairo there is a layover in Aswan and so I recommend spending a night or two there if have the time. Late Evening You land in Aswan International Airport and a porter asks what your luggage looks like before loading the heavy maletas onto a cart and escorting you out to the front. You wave past the soldier guarding the entrance and enter your taxi or pre-arranged ride. Make sure you tip your porter, 300 EGP would make him happy. The Hotel: Obelisk Nile Hotel Thirty five minutes later you arrive to the steps of your hotel on the Nile. After passing through a heavily guarded entrance you’re welcomed by white marble pathways straight from Stephen Sommer’s The Mummy (1999). Farid escorts you to the reception where the desk manager informs you of the hotel amenities. Noting your early your to Abu Simbel he arranges to have your included breakfast bagged. Walk along the path to your room along the Nile through meticulously manicured grounds, you’re delighted to be greeted by the coldest A/C in Egypt and chilled bottles of water in mini-fridge. And the bed is beyond comfortable. The Next Morning About 8 hours later and after a shower in the beautiful bathroom, you get a call to your room from the reception. It’s your tour guide 10 minutes before pickup letting you know he’s ready whenever you are. You pickup your bagged breakfast from the restaurant and your tour guide escorts you to his driver’s car: cold A/C and leather interior. You’re whisked away, safely from the searing Egyptian heat in your foreign manufactured and chilled cocoon. Your guide gives you a treat and lectures you on 5000 years of Egyptian history from the mummies to Sisi. You take a nap after a short night and he wakes you up for a quick stop at Sarah Coffee. After a drink and restroom break it’s another hour and a half through desolate wasteland. But it’s beautiful though deadly looking. The afternoon You arrive to the banks of Lake Nasser. There’s only a few cars as the tour busses are gone by 10am. You’re immediately hounded by the local merchants but your guide calmly waves them away. There’s the standard Egyptian souvenirs but all can be found in Cairo and better priced. Don’t forget your water bottle and umbrella, there’s no shade here and the temples are on a small but punishing hill. Your guide quickly reminds you of the highlights as he cannot enter the temple with you but makes an excellent photog and you get your payoff of you standing in front of the temple of Ramses. No spoilers here, the temples have to be experienced in person. But after an hour or more if you can manage the heat and hundreds of photos, your guide escorts you out and you arrive to a restaurant nearby: New Abu Simbel Restaurant. It’s so new, neither Google nor Instagram know about it but the food is amazing. I personally loved the Kofta but also tried the chicken which is good. The tour includes the food but not the drinks and though they do take card, bring some Egyptian pounds because the credit card reader is temperamental. After a satisfying lunch, it’s 3 hours back to the hotel with a restroom and drink break halfway. Your guide offers to take you to local highlights in Aswan like the spice museum but your flight is quickly arriving. The late evening traffic is intense so budgeting an hour of travel time is smart. After arriving to the hotel you have dinner at the Italian restaurant next door and enjoy the sun setting behind the western Desert. In a few hours you’re on the plane back to Cairo. 💰Average Price per Person: flights to Abu Simbel are very expensive: $250 USD each way for an hour flight. A tour with lunch and private driver is about $90 USD Budget $20 USD for taxis to and from the airport (Uber doesn’t exist here) and about $15 USD per person for every meal. 🏖️Ambiance/Facilities: There are some luxurious properties like the Old Cataract and the Nile Obelisk hotel but the rest of the region is decidedly poor and I wouldn’t recommend walking around outside the hotel alone. 💞Reasons to Recommend: there’s no where else in Egypt like Abu Simbel and the temples are truly worth the effort of getting there. #egypt #abusimbel #Aswan #luxurytravel
