Aksumite Culture
The ancient Aksum Kingdom, located 600 kilometers north of Addis Ababa, flourished from the 1st to the 8th century AD and is an important ancient civilization that is little known.
It is located along the Red Sea, with advanced technology and a vibrant trade center. The Aksum Kingdom also had its own coinage, which is very special in Africa. The most important cultural heritage of the Aksum civilization should be the more than 200 steles they built between the 3rd and 4th centuries AD. There are both unprocessed natural slabs and man-made large steles. This stele in this work weighs about 160 tons and is one of a group of seven steles. It is also the tallest stele still standing on the site today.
The group of steles is considered to be a landmark of the Aksumite noble cemetery. The details on this stele may reflect some real features of Aksumite architecture at that time.
