Germany has some great places to visit for those who put the effort in but Nuremberg would be number one on my list! Sure people know about it and visit but not in the vast tourist numbers like Athens, Paris or London. I have recommended this medieval town and to family and friends for years and everyone always comments they have heard of the Christmas Markets but did not realize how gorgeous the old town is. It has an airport and is well connected to the test of the country with the train network. From Berlin the fast train (ICE) stops on the way through to Munich, so this could be a in-between over night stop. The Park Plaza Nuremberg is a very short walk from the train station (two minutes). It is near the Frauentour and a repilca medieval street. I recommend it for the location and really nice rooms! There is an old town surrounded by huge sandstone walls, towers and the quintessential moat. Although the moat is dry nowadays, you need to use your imagination to cast you back to medieval times. The Pegnitz runs through the middle of town making for fantastic photo opportunities. While exploring the town which is fairly large and would take the full day or possibly two. I suggest seeing the Kaiserburg, the castle it has excellent views over the old town.The Weissgerbergasse, the Hauptmarket Square, and the Cathedral. I would keep my eyes open while walking around for one of the many bakeries for an afternoon coffee and cake. Some people translate Franconia as '费蘭肯' in Chinese. Where is this place located? It actually belongs to the Franconia region and is only about a twenty-minute drive from Rothenburg. We drove from Würzburg, which took about fifty minutes. Why is it called an Open Air Museum in English? Probably because the entire village is very large, with various houses of different sizes, each representing the story of a household. They might be ordinary families doing textile work at home, small farms raising poultry and livestock, or even large places for horse breeding. Additionally, you can visit their schools, churches, planting areas, as well as small bridges, streams, and ponds. Most visitors come as families, much like a picnic outing. They also have a small market selling their crafts such as wool products, ceramics, or honey products. If you take your time to walk around and look, it will take about two to three hours to complete the tour. Of course, we also enjoyed a German-style lunch inside, which had a unique flavor when enjoyed outdoors.
