#adventuretrips Adventure trips just hit different in Bagnoregio—a.k.a. that unreal cliffside town in central Italy! We did a round-trip from Orvieto, and trust me, the vibes were straight out of a Miyazaki movie. Locals swear it inspired "Castle in the Sky," and honestly, this spot completely stole my heart. 💙 Real talk: do NOT count on public transport here on Sundays or holidays. You'll either get stuck for hours or end up blowing your travel budget on surprise taxis (yep, learned the hard way 😅). Our return trip cost €100, but looking back at those pics? Worth. Every. Cent. Pro tip: Catch Civita di Bagnoregio in the early morning. Watching that magical town glow on the edge of a cliff as the sun rises feels like you walked into an animated fantasy. It’s bucket-list material, no cap. 🤯 Quick deets: · Civita di Bagnoregio Address: Piazzale Belvedere, 01022 Bagnoregio, Viterbo, Italy · Main Entrance Times: Usually open 8:00 AM–8:00 PM (but can change by season—double-check before you go!) · Entrance Fee: Around €5 (cash/card) If you’re hunting for lesser-known gems in Italy, put this ancient, windswept town at the top of your list. #italy #lesserknownattractionsns #laputacastleinthesky #travelphotography #medievaltown #miyazakihayaoanimationon #ancienttown #travel

Stop just flocking to Rome and Milan! This isolated cliffside town is the true "Sky City" of Italy—Civita di Bagnoregio, the inspiration for Hayao Miyazaki, hailed as one of the world's top 100 endangered sites to see before it disappears. 🚌 How to get there: Take a train from Rome for about 1.5 hours to Orvieto, then transfer to a Cotral bus directly to the town at the foot of the mountain. Cross the only long bridge, with clouds and mist swirling beneath, as if passing through the gates of heaven into a hidden world. After 4 PM, the tourists gradually leave, and the whole town returns to tranquility, with the light and shadows at their gentlest. 📸 Three must-do things: 1. Watch the sunset once, seeing the entire valley dyed honey-gold by the setting sun, with the distant church bells drifting on the breeze. 2. Get lost in the stone-paved alleys, where every corner offers views of the rolling Umbrian hills, and time moves slowly here. 3. Open a wooden door and try grandma’s wild boar ragù pasta, paired with a glass of the local fresh and crisp Orvieto white wine. 💡 Tips before you go: · The town has only about a dozen permanent residents; staying overnight lets you truly feel its soul—morning mist drifting over stone walls, like a ship floating in a sea of clouds. · Be sure to wear non-slip, comfortable shoes! The steep slopes are marked by the passage of time but are the only way to the beautiful views. · Bring your camera and patience; every step here feels like a movie, and every frame is worth cherishing. There’s no checklist here, only stone steps kissed by the wind, mist swirling around your ankles, and a dream about eternity that you never want to wake from.

The 13-day itinerary was perfectly arranged, with each country leaving a unique and profound impression. In France, we enjoyed the picturesque scenery along both banks of the Seine River on a cruise, taking in iconic landmarks like Notre Dame Cathedral and the Eiffel Tower. Germany's Neuschwanstein Castle brought back childhood fairy tales, and a sudden snowfall made it feel like winter in an instant, though we saw autumn scenery again as the bus left Germany. Switzerland, whether it was the Golden Pass Line train or Mount Pilatus, felt like a fairyland; a deep dive into Switzerland is a must! Italy's itinerary was even more spectacular: we rode a gondola through Venice's waterways, experiencing the unique charm of the "City of Water"; we took creative photos in front of the Leaning Tower of Pisa, adding fun to the trip; we explored the mysterious Civita di Bagnoregio, feeling as if we were in a Miyazaki animated world; and we gazed upon ancient ruins at the Colosseum in Rome, listening to the echoes of history. A special shout-out to our tour guide, Guide Li! He is truly a rare gem of a guide. His explanations were humorous and engaging, making dry historical anecdotes come alive; as a team leader, he was exceptionally meticulous and attentive, always mindful of every group member's needs, and ready to help with any issue. His thoughtful service filled the entire journey with warmth and laughter. The accommodations throughout the trip were quite good. The most pleasant surprise was the hotel in Switzerland, right next to Lake Lucerne, where we could see snow-capped mountains right outside in the morning. The hotel in Austria offered stunning views of the Alps from the window. The dining arrangements allowed us to savor authentic delicacies like Italian steak and Venetian squid ink pasta, and also included Chinese meals that suited our tastes. The tour bus was comfortable and clean, with ample space for each seat and charging ports, making long journeys relaxing and enjoyable. Our fellow travelers were all interesting, and I made many new friends. Sometimes, being younger, I even got a bit of "group pet" treatment. This trip completely changed my perception of group tours, achieving a perfect blend of "in-depth experience + hassle-free travel + quality enjoyment"! I highly recommend it, and I plan to choose this travel agency again next year for my trip to Northern Europe!

#Sign Up for September Hotel Tester 2025 Civita di Bagnoregio, the Castle in the Sky, is a popular destination for many travelers visiting Rome. Perched on a hilltop connected only by an elevated pedestrian path, stands the ancient city of Bellelucio. The unique geography of central Italy has created a wondrous landscape of diverse mountainous terrain. Over 2,500 years ago, the Etruscans established their village on this isolated and precipitous hilltop. Civita di Bagnoregio, a forgotten corner of the world known as the "Dying City," is built on a geologically fragile igneous rock. Over the years, erosion by wind, rain, and the Tiber River has caused the rock mass to collapse, resulting in the steep terrain we see today. As a result, it has been designated on the World Monuments Fund's "100 Endangered Monuments List." There's also a rumor that this place was the prototype for Hayao Miyazaki's Castle in the Sky, further attracting tourists to explore its beauty. The area offers different attractions day and night, so you can stay in a nearby B&B and explore at different times of the day.

Hidden gem near Rome! Immerse yourself in the real-life "Castle in the Sky" with this guide and explore Civita di Bagnoregio. Travel Essentials 📍 Civita di Bagnoregio, also known as the "Castle in the Sky," is located about 120 kilometers from Rome. Built 2,500 years ago, the ancient town sits atop fragile volcanic tuff, which has been eroding over time due to earthquakes and soil erosion. The mountain continues to sink at a rate of about 7 centimeters per year, leaving the town connected to the outside world by a single bridge. It's like a real-life version of Hayao Miyazaki's "Castle in the Sky"! 💰 Admission: €5 per ticket, available for purchase on-site. Transportation Guide 🚄 Public Transport: From Rome, take a train to Orvieto, which takes about 1.5 hours. Once you arrive at Orvieto, head towards the cable car station downhill, where you'll find the Cotral bus stop with blue buses marked "Orvieto - Bagnoregio." This bus will take you to Civita di Bagnoregio in about 45 minutes. Make sure to buy your bus ticket in advance at the Tabbacchi convenience store near the train station, as tickets are not sold on the bus. A one-way ticket costs €3. Note that buses do not operate on Sundays and public holidays, so plan accordingly. Due to time constraints, we didn't enter the ancient town itself. While waiting for the bus, we explored nearby Orvieto. The Duomo di Orvieto is like a miniature version of Milan Cathedral, with incredibly intricate frescoes. The entire town has a super chill vibe, making it a great spot to grab a meal before heading to Civita di Bagnoregio. Travel Tips 👟 Wear comfortable shoes, as the ancient town is filled with cobblestone streets and slopes. High heels can be tricky and may affect your experience. ⏰ The town is small, and transportation options are limited, so be mindful of the last bus schedule.

In the hustle and bustle of city life, we always yearn for an escape. This time, I ventured to the "Eye of the Sky," a breathtaking natural sinkhole hidden deep within the mountains. Standing at the edge and looking down, steep cliffs surround a lush, green miniature world below. Sunlight filters through the sinkhole, casting a golden veil over the land. Descending along winding trails, the symphony of birdsong and rustling winds fills the air. Gazing upward, the small patch of blue sky resembles a gemstone embedded between the rocky walls, evoking both awe and tranquility. Here, the noise of the city fades away, leaving only nature's purest sounds and colors. 🌳⛰️🌿 #NaturalBeauty #TheMeaningOfTravel #RomanticXuanInFairyMountains #SkyEyeSinkhole

Known as the "dying town," this beautiful city has a history spanning over 2,500 years. However, due to the erosion of the plateau's edges, the buildings are at risk of collapse, earning it the nickname "dying town." It is also said to resemble the castle in "Castle in the Sky" (Laputa), making it increasingly popular among Japanese tourists in recent years. Located about two hours by car from Rome, optional tours are available, making it a recommended destination to visit during a trip to Rome. The town itself is very small and can be explored in about 30 minutes. However, the journey to get there involves steep slopes and strong winds, making it quite challenging. Since the temperature is slightly lower compared to other areas, bringing a jacket is recommended. We parked our car in the town of Bagnoregio and walked from there. Exploring Bagnoregio while heading to Civita is also a great option. On the way, you can enjoy a view of Civita from Punto Panoramico. 📍Punto Panoramico (Scenic Viewpoint) Civita di Bagnoregio, Via Bonaventura Tecchi, 11, 01022 Bagnoregio VT, Italy 📍Civita di Bagnoregio Italy, 01022 Viterbo, Civita Entrance Fee: €5

Italy's Tuscany 🇮🇹 has a Mediterranean climate, and February is winter. Although the temperature is not particularly low, around 5-15°C, it rains a lot. Imagine you plan to walk in the fields and enjoy the iconic pastoral scenery, but it rains all the time, which will not only affect your experience, but also make the beautiful scenery less attractive. Moreover, the grass has not completely turned green at this time, and the scenery does not have that vibrant feeling. · 🎈Best time to visit The best time to visit Tuscany is actually from April to October. From April to May, wildflowers bloom all over the mountains, and the green grass is like a huge velvet carpet. The pastoral scenery is full of spring vitality. September to October is autumn, when grapes are ripe, making it a good time to experience grape picking and wine making, and you can also see the autumn scenery. · 🏰Attractions 🔺Siena: A medieval-style town, the shell square in the ancient city is a must-see. The famous Siena Horse Race Festival is held here every year. 🔺Florence: The birthplace of the Renaissance, the Uffizi Gallery houses a large number of Renaissance paintings, and the Michelangelo Square offers a panoramic view of the city. 🔺San Gimignano: Famous for its many towers, it is known as the "Medieval Manhattan". Walking on the ancient streets, you will feel like you have traveled back in time. · 🍷Food recommendations 🔺Florentine steak: Made from local Chianina beef, it is tender and juicy, grilled to medium rare, and the aroma of the meat fills your mouth with every bite. 🔺Tuscan bread soup: Made with stale bread, vegetables, and olive oil, it is rich in flavor and a traditional local delicacy. 🔺Tiramisu: Although its origin is controversial, Tuscan tiramisu has its own unique flavor. The sweet mascarpone cheese and coffee liqueur-soaked ladyfingers are very satisfying. · ✅Recommended itineraries (Transportation + attractions + guide) 🚩Florence round-trip 💰San Gimignano + Chianti + Siena 💰Leaning Tower of Pisa + San Gimignano + Siena 💰Montalcino + Pienza + Montepulciano 💰Val d'Orcia + Pienza + San Gimignano 💰San Gimignano + Siena + Pienza + S/Cypress Avenue 🚩Rome round-trip 💰Montepulciano + Sant'Antimo + Pienza 💰Orvieto + Civita di Bagnoregio + Montepulciano 💰Pienza + Montalcino + Sant'Antimo

The only access is a footbridge from the nearby town, with a toll introduced in 2013.[1] Due to the toll, communal taxes were abolished in Civita and nearby Bagnoregio.[1] Due to its unstable foundation that often erodes, Civita is famously known as "the dying city". A place like Greece shouldn't be rushed by a tour group. The pace on the islands is slow, and the most beautiful scenery is often hidden in alleys where no tour guide is shouting for you to gather. You can sit wherever you want for as long as you like. First time visiting? I highly recommend going on your own. Below, I'll break down how to do Athens + Santorini in detail. 🏛️ Stop 1: Athens — Understanding the cradle of civilization 📍 Trip highlights Acropolis of Athens & Parthenon 🏛️ The heart of Greek civilization. Standing among the ancient ruins, you can feel thousands of years of history wash over you. Ancient Agora + Mount Lycabettus sunset ⛰️ Head up in the evening to watch the sunset and see the city lights. It's incredibly romantic. Syntagma Square 💂 Watch the changing of the guard—it's a very ceremonial experience. 🍽️ Food Any random street-side shop is better than the popular restaurants. A Gyros only costs €3–€4—cheap and delicious. Pair it with some goat cheese with anise and an olive oil salad for an authentic Mediterranean taste. ⚠️ Travel tips Athens has many pickpockets, so keep your valuables close and don't walk around while looking at your phone. It's best to take a taxi or the metro between attractions; just stay alert. 🌊 Stop 2: Santorini — A blue and white dream come true 📍 Trip highlights Sunset in Oia 🌅 Known as the "most beautiful sunset in the world." With blue and white houses against the Aegean Sea, the whole town is bathed in gold at dusk. Get there early to grab a good spot. Fira town + Blue Dome Church 💙 The soul of Santorini. Every photo you take here looks like a postcard. Cliffside hotel & ferry experience ⛴️ Taking the ferry from Athens to the island offers beautiful Aegean scenery along the way—it's so relaxing you won't want to get off. Highest point monastery + Pyrgos village 🕕 Pyrgos was the capital of Santorini until the 19th century. It's full of Byzantine architecture and old churches, and it's rarely crowded, making it perfect for photos. 🍽️ Food The most amazing food on the island is actually found at random street-side restaurants, which are much better than the popular spots you might find in your research. Enjoy a seafood platter and grilled octopus with a glass of local white wine while the evening sea breeze blows. ⚠️ Travel tips Santorini is very sunny in the summer. Apply sunscreen from head to toe every time you go out. I highly recommend renting a car to tour the island; it saves time and lets you stop whenever you want to take photos. For the best photos, wear royal blue and white. 🏔️ Bonus: Meteora & Delphi (visit if you have extra time) Meteora, the city in the sky 🕕 Cliffside monasteries that seem to float in the air—a stunning visual experience. Delphi 🔮 Considered the "center of the world" by the ancient Greeks, it's rich in cultural heritage. If you have more than a few days for your vacation, these two spots are worth a special trip. 📝 Recommended itinerary Day 1–2: Acropolis, Ancient Agora, and Mount Lycabettus sunset; explore the old town Day 3: Take the ferry to Santorini in the morning, watch the sunset in Oia in the afternoon Day 4–5: Fira, Blue Dome Church, Pyrgos village, and rent a car to explore the island Day 6: Sleep in, return to Athens in the afternoon

Civita. 🏘️ A small town so beautiful you won't want to leave 🇮🇹 EP.1 Civita di Bagnoregio — The town that seems to float in the sky. If there’s any town in Italy that stops you in your tracks at first sight, this is the one 🤍. Civita di Bagnoregio is an ancient village perched atop a rocky hill. To reach it, you must walk across a long pedestrian bridge 🚶‍♀️. Once inside, you’ll discover narrow stone alleys, charming old houses, and valley views that stretch as far as the eye can see. There is an entrance fee of about €5, and visiting hours may vary depending on the season 🌿. 📍 Location: Lazio Region 🚗 Getting there: About a 15-minute walk from Bagnoregio to the bridge entrance, or take a shuttle bus when available. 📸 Must-see spot: The view of Civita from the bridge, especially during the golden hour. 🍝 Food: Don’t forget to try the local Lazio cuisine. The town isn’t large at all, but the slower you walk, the more you feel its magic 🥹. Sometimes, traveling in Italy doesn't have to be about the big-name cities... it’s these little towns that make you want to stay much longer than planned 🇮🇹✨.

A day trip to Civita di Bagnoregio, Orvieto, and Lake Bolsena from Rome is a classic itinerary that perfectly blends historical heritage, architectural marvels, and breathtaking natural scenery. Whether you’re a fan of ancient city culture, stunning landscapes, or an artistic atmosphere, visiting these three distinct locations in one day is an experience that is truly worth every penny! 🗺️ Recommended Itinerary: Depart from Rome early in the morning and head first to the legendary "Sky City"—Civita di Bagnoregio. Perched atop a plateau surrounded by deep canyons and connected to the outside world only by a single long bridge, this ancient town is a popular filming location. Being there feels like stepping into a real-life European version of "Castle in the Sky." We recommend setting aside 1.5 to 2 hours to explore its quaint alleys, stone houses, and stunning viewpoints. Afterward, drive toward Orvieto, stopping briefly at Lake Bolsena (Lago di Bolsena) to soak in the tranquil lakeside scenery. In Orvieto, you can wander through the historic Etruscan district and experience the relaxed pace of a typical Italian town. Be sure to leave time to admire the world-class Orvieto Cathedral. Famous for its Gothic facade and exquisite mosaics, the sacred atmosphere inside is truly unforgettable. Opening hours vary by season; for example, during the peak summer season (July 1 to August 31), it is typically open on weekdays from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Must-See Highlights & Practical Tips: 1. Civita di Bagnoregio · Best Photo Ops: The entrance of the long bridge, the city gate, and the cliffside observation decks offer panoramic views of the ancient town and the spectacular valley. · Note: Entering the town requires walking across the bridge; comfortable sneakers are highly recommended for the slopes. It can get very sunny in summer, so remember to wear sun protection and stay hydrated. · Hours: Open year-round from 08:00 to 20:00. We suggest arriving before 9:30 AM to beat the crowds and enjoy better photo opportunities. 2. Orvieto & the Cathedral · Suggestions: Explore the ancient Etruscan streets and try the local dessert, Torta di Orvieto. You'll find charming surprises in the souvenir shops tucked away in the narrow alleys. · The Cathedral: The massive stained glass windows and shimmering golden mosaics on the facade are breathtaking. Check seasonal and weekend hours before visiting, as it may be closed during Sunday mass or religious holidays. · Tip: Opening times can be complex, so check the official website for details before you go. 3. Lake Bolsena (Lago di Bolsena) · What to do: Visit the lakeside towns, relax on the beach, or take a leisurely stroll along the shore to enjoy the quiet beauty of nature—perfect for a quick lakeside photo. Practical Tips: · Starting early is highly recommended to avoid large tour groups. · There are small cafes and souvenir shops inside Civita di Bagnoregio; it's best to carry some cash, as some places do not accept credit cards. · When visiting the Cathedral, please respect the rules of the religious site and dress appropriately. · The itinerary is packed and involves significant travel time, so self-driving or joining an official day tour is recommended. This day trip offers both stunning visuals and rich classical culture, leaving you with lasting memories. The ethereal atmosphere of Civita di Bagnoregio is perfect for photos, while Orvieto's slow-paced markets and majestic cathedral are simply unbeatable.
