The number of people crossing this suspension bridge is strictly controlled, so there is a line and you cross at the direction of the staff. It's a shame that I didn't have time to take my time and take photos on the suspension bridge. Standing high above the crashing waves of the Atlantic Ocean, it’s easy to assume the bridge was designed to give visitors an adrenaline rush. However, the real story behind it is far more fascinating. More than 250 years ago, this wasn’t a tourist attraction at all. It was a vital crossing built by local salmon fishermen to reach the small island of Carrick-a-Rede to cast their nets during the annual salmon migration. What was once a practical route for earning a living has since become one of Northern Ireland’s most iconic landmarks, allowing visitors to step into a piece of living history that once supported an entire way of life. Our visit began with a scenic 1-kilometre coastal trail from the visitor car park to the rope bridge. The round-trip walk takes around 40 minutes and is just as memorable as the bridge itself. The path winds along dramatic sea cliffs with breathtaking views of the rugged coastline before descending a series of steep stone stairways towards the bridge. We visited in December when the weather was cool and cloudy with only a light breeze, making the walk especially enjoyable.It felt peaceful in a way that contrasted sharply with the more dramatic conditions we’d experienced at the Cliffs of Moher. The rope bridge itself is around 60 feet (20 metres) long, so the crossing lasts only about 20 seconds. Although we expected it to sway from side to side, it was surprisingly stable, with only a gentle bounce underfoot. Visiting during the off-season also meant we could walk straight across without waiting. During the peak summer months, however, it’s common to queue before crossing in both directions. Once across, don’t rush back. Take some time to explore the walking trails on the tiny rocky island. You’ll get some lovely views of the water and sea cliffs and also old fishermen’s cottage that remains on the island. We also came across historical photographs of the bridge on the internet, showing just how simple and functional it once was compared to the well-maintained attraction we see today.

I didn't have high expectations for Northern Ireland initially, but a friend enthusiastically recommended it, so I went with the mindset of accompanying a friend. The surprise was delightful! Driving along the North Shore, the sea was everywhere, a truly refreshing experience. Two particularly noteworthy attractions: 1. Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge: One of Northern Ireland's most famous landmarks. The bridge is approximately 20 meters long and about 30 meters above the sea. Built in 1755, it was originally a rope bridge for salmon fishermen to travel to and from the islands. To walk on the bridge, you need to book a time slot and purchase tickets in advance; advance booking is especially recommended during peak season. We applied for a National Trust one-sight-free pass, which we could use here, making parking and crossing the bridge free. 2. Giant's Causeway: The Giant's Causeway is Northern Ireland's most iconic natural landscape and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are approximately 40,000 hexagonal basalt columns, formed by the cooling and contraction of volcanic lava about 60 million years ago. Most of the columns are hexagonal, but some are square, pentagonal, heptagonal, or even octagonal. Because of their orderly arrangement, resembling a stone avenue leading to the sea, it is named the "Giant's Causeway." Standing among them, you feel like a little dwarf, marveling at the wonders of creation! Driving along the causeway, with its castles and the sea, the scenery is truly beautiful. These two attractions alone made the trip to Northern Ireland worthwhile.
