You can get there in two or three hours by high-speed train, much more comfortable than being packed into popular attractions under the scorching sun. Keep reading—I’m sharing honest, no-fluff reviews of each place. 1 Luoyang | Henan At 5:30 AM, a line is already waiting outside the old town’s soup shops. A bowl of beef soup with crispy dough strips makes you sweat but somehow feels refreshing. Before the sun gets strong, head to Longmen Grottoes. ⏰ Before 9 AM, sunlight hits the face of the Vairocana Buddha just right, and there are hardly any tourists blocking your shot. Day 6, May 21st Bayinbuluke Town is nestled in a narrow strip of land between two large mountains, at an altitude of approximately 2500 meters. Wherever I go, I try to get up early to see the town and its early risers. Bayinbuluke Town is a newly developed town. At 7:00 AM, it was just beginning to lighten, the temperature was around 8 degrees Celsius, and there were few pedestrians on the road. I only encountered one young man jogging and a middle-aged couple taking a walk. Due to limited visibility, I jogged eastward until I reached the vicinity of the town's entrance. The golden sun shone on the snow-capped mountain peaks, instantly creating a warm feeling. The town in the morning is like a free scenic spot. I set off for Urumqi at 10:00 AM. The altitude remained relatively stable at around 2500 meters as I headed east. On the left side of the road, the snow on the mountains had melted, but the grass hadn't turned green. On the right side, the snow on the mountains hadn't melted, and the grass hadn't grown. A highway is under construction next to the national highway and will open next year, making the return trip to Urumqi much faster. Along the way, I saw numerous downward-pointing red and white arrows hanging from road poles—the legendary unique snow road markers of Xinjiang, helping drivers pinpoint the exact location of the road in heavy snow. Even a quick trip to the restroom resulted in a stunning photo. The roadside offered lush alpine meadows as well as barren, desolate mountains. We reached Baluntai Town and were able to access the highway. The Tianshan Victory Tunnel, over 20 kilometers long, is touted as the world's longest single-bore tunnel. I didn't take any photos; besides its length, I didn't notice any other remarkable features. We arrived back in Urumqi at 6 PM, a total journey of 8 hours. I bought some things and checked into the Meihua Lizhi Hotel at 7 PM. Later, I took a taxi to Consulate Lane. At the same place, Ailijiang, grilled fish cost 20 yuan, and naan bread with meat cost 25 yuan. An interesting phenomenon is that many food stalls are labeled as Hotan or Kashgar cuisine, but why are there so few labeled Yili or Urumqi? This is because northern Xinjiang is nomadic, while southern Xinjiang is agricultural and settled—which makes sense. China is vast, and Xinjiang, as a provincial-level region, is the largest. Therefore, Xinjiang differs significantly from our preconceived notions in terms of clothing, food, and lifestyle. Traveling to Xinjiang allows us to appreciate its unique natural scenery, savor its diverse cuisine, and fully experience its local customs and traditions. Overall, the terms and conditions of this Ctrip Yili trip were fulfilled, and Ctrip's daily monitoring and evaluation mechanism was clearly effective. After purchasing the product, the contract terms and various reminders and guidelines were sent to a group chat. A group confirmation was sent the day before departure, clearly specifying the hotel and the contact information for the airport pick-up person. The pick-up person also confirmed the flight and number of passengers, and the pick-up was almost seamless. During the trip, the driver accompanied us throughout, and Ctrip sent the hotel information daily, requiring the driver to verify it. If needed, we could communicate with the driver or contact Ctrip. However, considering the itinerary, there might not be time for lunch, so make sure you have a substantial breakfast at the hotel, and bring some snacks so you won't be hungry even when you have dinner around 8 or 9 pm. Accommodation: The hotels I stayed at this time were generally good—clean, tidy, modern, well-equipped, and with a substantial breakfast. Transportation: The main mode of transportation is by car, and travel time between scenic spots exceeds 5 hours, so be prepared and take precautions.
