Bergen is Norway's second-largest city. Located in the southwestern part of the country along the North Sea, it is a designated World Heritage city. In addition to its title as the "Gateway to the Fjords," Bergen is also known as the city where it rains 300 out of 365 days. It's incredibly rainy here—we're not quite sure how the Norwegians calculate it, but they probably count every single day with precipitation, whether it's a heavy downpour or just a light drizzle. Bryggen is the historic harbor district famous for its row of beautifully colored buildings in shades of red, orange, and yellow. It's the iconic landmark you'll always see on social media whenever Bergen is mentioned. These wooden houses were originally slated for demolition, but they were ultimately preserved and earned their status as a World Heritage site. The old wharf of Bryggen was rebuilt after the Great Fire of 1702. The Bryggen district is noticeably more bustling and vibrant than the surrounding areas. It boasts numerous tourist attractions, ranging from the Fish Market to the Bergenhus Fortress. The streets are lined with a plethora of restaurants, cafes, and shops selling chic handmade crafts and local goods. On a beautiful, sunny day, you'll see plenty of tourists sitting down for a cup of coffee and chatting in front of the brightly colored buildings. Fisketorget in Bergen is a lively fish market located right by the Bergenhavn harbor. The Mount Fløyen viewpoint is accessible via the Fløibanen Funicular, taking you up to 320 meters above sea level. At the top, there is a spacious, terraced seating area offering sweeping views of the city. The evening view can be backlit by the sun, so it's actually much more stunning if you visit in the morning.
