The second largest flower in the world
A half day trek into the Lojing forest area to see the Rafflesia Kerrii in its various flowering stages. These flowers are protected by the local indigenous people, the Temiars whom Moonriver Lodge engages directly as part of working with the local community.
Thank god it was a beautiful day and the trek was successful! The trek is suitable for kids too! It was amazing to finally see something rare in real life and not just in a science textbook. We were only able to spot 1 in full bloom. They only last a few days after blooming and take months to grow. They gave out a faint unpleasant smell.
Engage Moonriver Lodge for a farm stay and trek for an awesome #weekendgetaways

Zixia Cave with good Feng Shui ⛰️
📍 Zixia Cave, Pulay New Village, Gua Musang
During the British colonial era, Malaysia introduced a large number of ethnic Chinese, commonly known as Nanyang Chinese. Most Nanyang Chinese will build temples wherever they live, especially in rural areas. Farmers will go to temples to worship gods and pray for a smooth harvest.
🌾 The stalactites in Zixia Cave are unique, and the treasure of the temple is a stalactite Guanyin Bodhisattva statue located at the highest point of the cave. Looking out over the endless rubber gardens, durian gardens and other gardens in Bulai New Village, it is full of spirituality.

Train to East Coast 🚞🚂
📍KTM Station Gua Musang
🚂 The only railway route to the East Coast in Peninsular Malaysia - Southbound ↔️ Eastbound. The Southeastern Line departs from Gemas Station in Negeri Sembilan and travels from the plains to one of the oldest tropical rainforests in the world. The railway will cross the central mountains of Peninsular Malaysia. It was night when it started and the scenery outside the window could not be seen clearly, but by sunrise When I was there, I looked out the window and saw that the fog and the forest merged into one, like a fairyland.
🛌️ The Southeast Line passes through 60 stations. This trip chose to go to Gua Musang, the hometown of the Musang King. The journey took about 8 hours, so I chose a sleeper, which was a good experience.

Slow-paced Gua Musang
# Gua Musang #guamusang #tasik #湖View #湖side
Gua Musang is a city suitable for slow travel. The pace here is very slow. The locals spend their time living slowly, and the pace is slow, which is in sharp contrast with the hustle and bustle of the city.
⛲️ There is a lakeside park in the center of Gua Musang. It is a place where you can view the surrounding scenery 360 degrees, overlooking the granite mountains in the distance, and the tropical rainforest up close. It is very leisurely to integrate and contact with nature.

Two-dish rice at Brai Sin Village🍴🍚
📍 D241, 18300 Gua Musang, Kelantan
🚗 From the town of Huawangsheng south, along the road covered by green jungle, you will reach the historic Burai New Village in ten minutes. Bulai New Village is a Chinese new village surrounded by granite stone and rubber plantations, dating back to the late 15th century.
After walking into the new village, you must first visit the Water Moon Palace, then go down there are two-dish rice stalls. In a small village, the stalls can even cook ten dishes, with meat and vegetables, very carefully 🥗🥘

Cave exploration - Zixia Cave ⛰️
📍18300 Gua Musang, Kelantan
⛰️ Zixia Cave is the treasure of Bulai New Village. In the cave on the top of the granite mountain, there is a natural stalactite statue of Guanyin Buddha, overlooking the whole village from a high place. Standing on the top of the cave, looking at the endless Bulai New Village, facing the gentle breeze, feeling the spiritual energy, my mood also calmed down.
There are durian plantations, rubber plantations or other crop farms within dozens of kilometers here. On every Guanyin birthday or Lunar New Year festival, the villagers will worship Guanyin Bodhisattva and pray for blessings for a good harvest of crops!

Hiking trails in Gua Musang
⛰️ Gua Musang has a unique geographical environment. There are many not-too-high granite mountains nearby, which are suitable for mountaineering enthusiasts.
Muse Ecopark is a newly developed area of the Gua Musang City Government. It has a unique natural terrain and is an isolated granite mountain with a height of about 50-60 meters, which is very suitable for the development of leisure activities.
🧗 The hiking trail is still under development, and only mud roads and ropes are provided to climbers. Please prepare your hiking equipment in advance before departure. In addition to mountain climbing, there are several cafes here where you can also leisurely drink a cup of coffee and enjoy the beautiful scenery.

What a gorgeous ancient temple!
📬 18300 Gua Musang, Kelantan
Shui Yue Temple is the patron saint temple of the town of Gua Musang Pulai. About 600 years ago, descendants of Chinese people settled in Bray Town, and most of the residents are engaged in farming as their main occupation. Whenever there is a birthday or festival of a god, villagers will come to Shuiyue Palace to worship and pray for the god’s blessing and a good harvest of crops.
The temple faces granite and there is a river in front of it, which is really good for the weather and water. The square in front of the temple is very open. Standing in the square, you will feel very spacious and relaxed! The kids from the neighborhood came out to play after class, and they looked so happy against the backdrop of the blue sky and white clouds!

Trip Jungle Train In Malaysia
I’m taking train from Kuala Lumpur to Kelantan. For the first time in Malaysia I try sleeper train from Gemas to Tumpat. I arrived at Gemas 12.00am the train start to move around 12.30am, at first I got a hard times to sleep but as I really tired I fell asleep around 1.00am.
The train stop at Gua Musang station around 7.00am where you can buy breakfast at the station. The train stop for 10 minutes you have to run to get a good breakfast 🤣 or else just buy at the cafeteria inside the train. The view of this train journey is very scenic as you can see jungle in Malaysia. So you need to awake around 6.30am to witness the view. You will arrive at Tumpat around 12pm and surely you will enjoy Kelantan.

RNR Gua Musang is a welcoming spot for travelers needing a quick break. The food selection is decent, offering local and fast food options 🍔🍛. Clean restrooms are always a plus 🚻, and there are places to sit and relax while you stretch your legs. It’s an ideal stop during long road trips, with sufficient parking space 🚗. While it can be crowded during holidays or weekends, the overall experience is still stress-free and convenient. A nice, no-fuss stop to reenergize before continuing your journey. 🛣️

Nature Meets Adventure at Muse Ecopark 🌳✨
Set in the heart of Gua Musang, Muse Ecopark is a hidden gem for outdoor lovers and eco-adventurers. Picture rugged karst limestone formations, lush tree canopies, and sunshine streaming on the parks’ rocky centerpiece—truly a natural playground ready for discovery!
🗺️ Your Eco-Adventure Route:
Start at the striking entrance rock etched “MUSE ECOPARK” (makes for a stellar insta-worthy photo with that blue-sky backdrop!). Wander the marked trails weaving between dramatic limestone cliffs and pockets of vibrant greenery—watch for lesser-known species and surprising viewpoints.
🌳 Must-Dos:
Walk the nature loops for close-up views of the karst landforms and unique local trees. Take time to pause at the rest areas and breathe in the fresh mountain air. If you’re feeling energetic, hike higher for panoramic vistas of the valley’s natural splendor.
📸 Top Photo Spots:
Snap a close-up shot of the famous entrance rock with the vivid sky behind—most visitors miss how the sunlight highlights the inscription. Landscapes framed by limestone caves, leafy tree silhouettes, and open clearings give you plenty of shots for your feed.
🔎 Practical Tips:
Morning visits guarantee cooler, quieter trails (and softer golden hour light for photos). The trails can be uneven, so sturdy footwear is a must. Pack water, as there are few vendors inside. Don’t forget sunscreen and a hat—shade can be patchy.
⚠️ Precautions:
Some parts get slippery after rain, so check weather in advance and tread carefully. Watch out for stray branches and rocks—nature is both beautiful and wild here!

🇲🇾Snap the Giant Bloom: Rafflesia Experience
Lojing Highlands, located on the border of Kelantan and Pahang, is a hidden gem for hiking enthusiasts seeking untouched nature and cool mountain air⛰️
Known for its dense rainforest, rich biodiversity, and mystical mist-covered peaks, the highlands offer trails ranging from beginner-friendly treks to challenging routes for experienced hikers.
Along the way, you may encounter exotic flora, including the rare Rafflesia flower, as well as diverse wildlife. The elevation keeps temperatures pleasantly cool, making hikes more enjoyable compared to lowland jungles. Lojing also provides cultural encounters, as the Orang Asli villages nearby add a unique charm to the hiking experience.
During our trip, we were lucky enough to spot two blooming Rafflesia flowers — since each bloom lasts only about a week, it’s best to visit during the peak blooming season for a better chance.
📌Hikers are only allowed to enter the trail with a licensed mountain guide, ensuring safety and environmental protection along the route.
📌Do note that mobile signal inside the forest is very weak — my friends couldn’t even make a phone call when they almost lost their way, so always stay close to your guide.

A Hidden Encounter Deep in Cameron Highlands — Chasing the Elusive Rafflesia 🌺
#springitinerary
📆 Flashback to January
I was traveling in the Cameron Highlands when I decided to venture deeper — about a 50-minute drive brought me to the mysterious Lojing Highlands, nestled at the border of Pahang and Kelantan.
My goal?
To catch a glimpse of the world’s largest flower, the legendary Rafflesia. 🌿
Armed with nothing but curiosity (and some last-minute planning), I found a local mountain guide on Facebook. I asked if he could take me on a one-day hike deep into Lojing’s untouched rainforest. It was the rainy season, and the area was blissfully free of tourists.
But when the guide showed up, he casually told me:
“Oh, I forgot to scout for any blooming flowers yesterday... so we’ll just have to rely on luck.” 😳
So off we went — trekking for hours into the dense jungle, soaking wet and hopeful. The only thing I clung to?
✨ My belief in the law of attraction.
I kept telling myself:
“I will see the Rafflesia today!”
And guess what?
🌸 I actually did.
In the heart of the forest, hidden among the moss and mist, the Rafflesia was waiting. It was one of the most surreal and magical moments of my travel life.
Sometimes, it's the unplanned, uncertain moments that lead to the most unforgettable adventures. 💫
