Zaab is a fusion restaurant that hits your cravings for both Asian food and western food at once! Located in the heart of Canberra, the restaurant is beautifully decorated with neon signs and cool Asian graffiti. The food was truly unique! We had the duck confit with curry, eggplant, betel leaves, corn fritters and black pudding. All were very delicious, especially the appetisers and desserts. Definitely worth the money! I stayed in Braddon. i liked walking to Northbourne Ave to try many kinds of food and do some shops. The weather is great not too cold when I went there in September. I also enjoy walking to Haig Park. The area is more of a place to relax, picnic, exercise or walk the dog. Enjoy nature and fresh air. The park also provides habitat for many animals, including birds and possums. #foodie #deliciousfood #cafe #staycation #mytripvlog

We were warmly welcomed upon arrival, which set the tone for a delightful 3-day stay at The Avenue. The hotel is centrally located, offering excellent accommodation options and most of the amenities you'd expect. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The only minor downside was a TV with low volume issues (it had to be turned up to 60 to be audible). 😂 Other than that, it was a fantastic experience. Well done!

Great location with an acceptable kebab shop nearby. The room was comfortable and quiet, with a TV. I plan to stay again next time I visit Canberra. Although the nearby tram station is decent for reaching the center and catching buses, I found my car to be much more convenient, and everything worked out fine. Even parking under cover at the National Gallery only cost me $4 because I moved quickly. Recommended.

I appreciated the excellent location close to tourist attractions, the friendly and helpful receptionist, the roomy and comfortable accommodations, and the modern amenities. The lifts were reliable, and the place was very clean. The area felt safe for walking at night, and transportation was easily accessible. I’d happily return!

Many people think Canberra is just about "a quick visit to Parliament House and then it's over." But if you're coming in September or October, I really want to redeem that notion. Springtime in Canberra is a completely different story—tulips, cherry blossoms, lake views, vast lawns, and finally, a stunning sunset over the entire city. And right now is Floriade 2026! This year, it's being held at Commonwealth Park from September 12th to October 11th, featuring over 1 million flowers, with the main blooming period officially stated as September 18th to October 1st. 🌷 🌷 First Stop|Floriade If it's your first time in Canberra in spring, this is definitely the place to start. The entire Commonwealth Park transforms into a giant garden, with tulips, pansies, and various other flowers carpeting the lawns, and a Ferris wheel in the distance. This year's theme is Feast of Flowers, and in addition to the sea of flowers, it also includes food, gardening, markets, and various activities. Floriade is free to enter during the day, and its opening hours in 2026 are 9:30 am–5:30 pm. I highly recommend not just taking close-up photos of the flowers. Find a slightly higher spot and capture the entire flower field, blue sky, and people all in one shot; the travel experience will be much stronger. 🌸 Second Stop|Nara Peace Park If you happen to visit during peak bloom, this place is truly a surprise. Canberra Nara Peace Park is located on the shore of Lake Burley Griffin, and it's most famous for its cherry blossoms in spring. The pink blossoms against the lake's surface are a far cry from the typical image of Canberra as an "administrative city." VisitCanberra also lists this as one of the city's representative spring cherry blossom viewing spots. Bring a coffee, sit on the grass, stroll around, and take your time taking photos; it's much more comfortable than constantly rushing to different attractions. 🌊 Third Stop|Lake Burley Griffin When in Canberra, many of the most beautiful scenes surround this lake. The lakeside boasts a complete walking trail, perfect for strolling, cycling, or e-scooter riding. If time is limited, you can walk the classic 5km Bridge-to-Bridge route through the city center. The most beautiful spot in spring is: Flowers in front, the lake behind, and further on, the entire city. Very clean, very comfortable, and with Canberra's own unique rhythm. 🌅 Finally | Mount Ainslie Lookout This stop must be saved for dusk. Upon reaching Mount Ainslie, you'll suddenly understand why Canberra's urban planning is so unique. Directly in front lies a complete urban axis, offering views of Lake Burley Griffin, the Australian War Memorial, and Parliament House all in one place. Furthermore, the official recommendation is to come up at sunrise and sunset, when the light is good and the entire city gradually turns golden. I arrive about 45 minutes before sunset. First, capture the city panorama during the day; then wait for the Golden Hour; finally, wait until the sky turns blue—you can capture three different moods in one shot. 📣 Quick Tips If you're going soon, Floriade should definitely be on your itinerary; for the nighttime version, NightFest in 2026 is from October 1st to 4th, 6:30pm–10:30pm. The best way to experience Canberra isn't rushing. See the million flowers in the morning, take a walk along the lake at noon, chase the cherry blossoms in the afternoon, and then climb the mountain to watch the sunset at dusk. After this trip, you might find— Canberra isn't boring, it's just that many people come at the wrong time of year. 🌷🇦🇺 #CanberraTravel #Canberra #Floriade #AustraliaTravel #AustraliaSelfGuide #CanberraGuide #SpringTravel #AustraliaFlowerViewing #LakeBurleyGriffin #MountAinslie #CanberraCheckIn

This hotel has it all: location, comfort, friendly staff, and a good breakfast. The rates felt competitive within Canberra's current market. Booking directly even waives the daily $20 parking fee. Check-out is at 11 AM, with a one-hour extension available by special request, which is quite a rare offering. Additionally, the $29 breakfast was delightful, with options like pancakes or made-to-order omelets. I can happily recommend this hotel to family and friends.

The location is fantastic, situated near Braddon and the city centre. The rooms are spacious and luxurious, featuring very comfortable beds, and the hotel boasts a relaxed vibe. Everything was clean, the staff were kind and helpful, and overall it offered great value for money, especially given its central setting.

My father and I visited Canberra to attend a sporting event and explore the new extension of the War Memorial. For convenience, we prefer interconnecting rooms when traveling. While I usually book through the ALL App, this time I spoke with a lovely woman over the phone who was very helpful and made sure we got the room we needed. During check-in, we found no parking spaces out front, so we used the back carpark. Unfortunately, accessing reception became tricky as we didn’t have a key for the doors. The overall check-in experience was fine. However, my Diamond Loyalty status wasn’t mentioned, which is typically standard, though we did receive a property map and the necessary information. We initially booked a Standard Room but believe we were upgraded to an Executive Room. The room was very spacious, with a modernized bathroom, and the wooden furniture aligned nicely with the hotel’s style. We had breakfast at the hotel all three mornings and dined there twice during our stay. Breakfast on Sunday had several issues, which I addressed directly with the F&B Manager, Troy. However, Monday and Tuesday breakfasts went smoothly, thanks to Phoebe, who kept the buffet and tables well-maintained. Overall, we enjoyed our dinners, as there was a great variety of dishes. The only downside was the chicken & chorizo risotto—it lacked flavor and came off bland. On the other hand, the schnitzels and steaks were cooked perfectly. In conclusion, our stay at Mercure Canberra was very comfortable, and we’d definitely choose to stay here again.

Fantastic experience. The staff were lovely, polite, and friendly. The room was excellent—absolutely no faults. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and the bathroom was great. Breakfast was fantastic with plenty of options. We enjoyed dinner at the restaurant for two consecutive nights because the food was that good. Highly recommend and will definitely return. Thank you for making our stay wonderful.

Upon arrival, the hotel staff greeted us warmly. We stayed for four nights in a one-bedroom apartment that was both clean and spacious. The king-sized bed ensured we had great sleep each night. Throughout our stay, we lacked for nothing. The hotel also provides on-site parking, a 24-hour gym, and an on-site restaurant and bar with a happy hour from 4-6 pm, all staffed by friendly and helpful team members. This was our first visit to the Deco, and it definitely won’t be our last. Well done to the team!

This hotel offers an excellent location, clean and spacious rooms, great staff, and a very good restaurant and bar. Although I didn’t use the gym, it appeared to be quite good. My room had a west-facing view overlooking Northbourne Avenue. The city was just a five-minute walk away.

I always choose to stay at AVENUE hotel whenever I visit Canberra, whether alone or with friends. I even recommend it to others. The hotel offers a nice view from the rooms, which are clean, spacious, and conveniently located near everything. However, I wish visitors could access the lobby so we wouldn't need to come down to meet them. Additionally, the breakfast could cater more to Asian preferences, like including rice. Last Saturday, I asked Jen for 2 boiled eggs and waited 10 minutes. I followed up with two male staff, but after waiting for 30 minutes without receiving the eggs, I finally decided to leave. :(

Whenever friends visit Canberra, besides asking where to see kangaroos, another question is always, "Any cafes worth visiting?" If I could only recommend one area, I'd almost always choose Kingston. Compared to the vibrancy of Braddon and the artsy atmosphere of NewActon, Kingston has a more relaxed, lived-in feel. Especially Kingston Foreshore; a stroll along the lake and finding a cafe to sit in makes for a very pleasant morning. This time, I chose Dockside Cafe. I ordered two signature dishes—squid ink seafood pasta and a black truffle cheese sandwich. The squid ink pasta was a pleasant surprise. The sauce was rich but not too salty, the seafood portion was generous, and the umami of the squid ink and the garlic flavor were well-balanced. It wasn't the kind of dish that relied solely on presentation. As for the black truffle cheese sandwich, it's a simple yet foolproof dish. The bread is toasted to a crisp, the cheese melts perfectly, and the black truffle aroma isn't overpowering. Paired with a cup of coffee, it makes for a comfortable brunch. If you're looking for a cafe in Kingston, I have two other recommendations. Early Edition consistently offers high-quality coffee and is a popular breakfast spot for locals. If you prefer a quieter atmosphere, Local Press is a good choice; their juices and coffee are also quite good, perfect for a simple meal. If I were to rank them: 🥇 Dockside Cafe – Best view, most breakfast options, fast and consistent service. 🥈 Early Edition – Most famous for its coffee, great for relaxing and chatting. 🥉 Local Press – Less crowded, better for larger gatherings. When traveling in Canberra, finding a favorite cafe by the lake, spending a morning there, watching people jogging, walking their dogs, and boating nearby, allows you to truly experience the city's laid-back lifestyle. 📍Dockside Cafe, Early Edition, Local Press|Kingston, Canberra ☕ Personal Recommendation: If it's your first time in Kingston, try having brunch at Dockside Cafe first, then take a stroll along the Kingston Foreshore – a perfect way to spend a morning. #Canberra #Kingston #CafeHopping #Brunch #DocksideCafe #EarlyEdition #LocalPress #Canberra #AustralianCafe

There are two Mantra Hotels in Canberra, so make sure to double-check your booking. Since I had appointments in the CBD/Civic area, I aimed to book the Mantra Northbourne for its convenient location near the city center. However, I mistakenly reserved a room at the Macarthur, which is approximately 2.5 km further up Northbourne Avenue. It was my error, but I moved past it quickly. During my two-night stay, I found the Macarthur to be excellent in every aspect. Check-in was both friendly and efficient, and the rooms were spacious and comfortable. Everything functioned seamlessly! While the restaurant menu was somewhat limited, it didn’t pose any issues for me.

The location is very convenient, being close to the light rail station and within walking distance to the city, and the price is reasonable. The room is very clean and even includes various cookware, making it possible for guests to cook their own meals. It is generally a quiet place, perfect for a good night's sleep. I highly recommend it to anyone planning a trip to Canberra.

I really enjoyed the day. I had been on a similar tour to Canberra 40 years ago, but it was definitely worth revisiting. This time, the trip included Mount Ainslie, which offers an extensive view of the city. We also visited the Australian War Memorial, National Museum, and Parliament House. Morning tea was at Heatherbrae's Pies on the Hume Highway, where the pies were delicious. A special thank you to our driver and tour guide Fernando for making the day so enjoyable.

Hadn't stayed here in years and decided to book despite some negative reviews. Got a deal through Luxury Escapes, and maybe the timing was favorable, but I found all the staff to be welcoming and helpful. The room was very comfortable, and the buffet breakfast was more than adequate. Overall, it was a very pleasant stay. While I remained attentive to potential negatives, none applied to our experience. The location was good, just a 10-12 minute walk to downtown. Definitely plan to stay again.

Rye Cafe in Canberra is a popular after-work spot, especially for people working in nearby offices in the city. It has a relaxed but social atmosphere that makes it easy to drop in with colleagues or friends and settle in for a football match after a long day. On match nights, it tends to get lively without feeling overly chaotic, which suits viewers who want both energy and comfort. What really adds to the experience are the extended happy hours and special match-day menus. It makes it more convenient to stay through full games without worrying about constantly ordering, and it naturally encourages groups to stick around from kickoff to the final whistle. The food and drinks are straightforward but well-suited for long viewing sessions. #bestplacestowatchfootball #localfood

The interior design was remarkable, the location highly convenient, and the staff delightful. During our 4-night stay, we received $10 coupons daily for opting out of housekeeping—a commendable effort towards eco-friendliness. Unfortunately, we couldn't charge our Tesla as the Wi-Fi QR code didn’t connect properly; alternative solutions in the future would be appreciated. Despite this, our getaway to Australia's capital was truly enjoyable!

Braddon afternoon vibes: sunset skies, crescent moon, and mountain silhouettes—modern city living meets nature’s beauty 🌙⛰️ Top Spot to Stay: Madison Capital Executive Apartments (108 Northbourne Ave) This is the go-to spot for comfort with a touch of practicality. Rooms are roomy, clean, and often come with a kitchen setup—super handy if you want to prep snacks while taking in sunset views. Some rooms are freshly renovated with comfy beds, but heads up: a few have older features and heating isn’t perfect, so pack an extra layer just in case. Free parking and Tesla charging are a huge perk if you’re road-tripping; plus, laundry facilities are ready and totally free. Pro Tips: · Afternoon stroll: Braddon’s outdoor scene is best explored after lunch—check out local parks or streets as the sun starts to dip. · Nature lovers: The mountain outline makes for epic sunset photo ops—bring your camera! · Want peace? Request a room facing away from busy streets (Braddon’s lively, so soundproofing isn’t ideal). · Chat with hotel staff at check-in for shortcuts to the area’s best spots—they’re genuinely helpful. · For a quick bite: Try local cafes nearby along Lonsdale St (less than 10 min walk from the hotel). Getting Around: Braddon is walkable, and buses along Northbourne Ave are frequent. If driving, use the hotel’s free parking—especially if EV charging matters. This hotel has been around for decades and remains under the same family ownership—a true Canberra landmark. Over the years, it has seen many updates and even hosted LBJ, the American president, during his visit. The staff are consistently courteous and friendly, and the food is great for a hotel of this caliber. Hot showers are readily available without long waits, the beds are incredibly comfortable, and there's a 50-inch TV. Highly recommend for a stay in Canberra!

This hotel has received a few negative reviews recently, and I can't understand why. It's an excellent place to stay with all the essentials you could ask for. Sure, the rooms may feel a bit old-fashioned, but this doesn’t affect the experience in a bad way. Don’t let the critics discourage you! We stayed in a 2-bedroom apartment, which was fantastic. It included 2 bathrooms, a washing machine and dryer, a dining table, a microwave, a full fridge plus a mini fridge, a lounge suite/sofa bed, and both a king and queen bed. The room was cleaned daily, and the housekeeping team was very accommodating to our needs (e.g., leaving the bed unmade or providing an extra towel). The buffet breakfast was generous and tasty. While it’s not a fancy 5-star dining affair, it offered all the usual breakfast staples and was a pleasant way to start the day. We left feeling full every morning! The parking garage entrance and exit are a bit tight—but, as long as you take it slow, there’s no problem. Overall, we found the Mantra on Northbourne an excellent place to stay, with a fantastic location surrounded by plenty of shops and dining options. We would gladly come back without hesitation.

I stayed in a Superior King Room on the top floor, and the experience was outstanding. The hotel is modern, spacious, and my balcony offered a stunning view of Northbourne Avenue and Black Mountain—a great way to start the day. With a variety of restaurants and coffee shops nearby and an easy walk to Canberra Centre, it’s incredibly convenient. Highly recommend this hotel for both work and leisure trips—it truly suits all types of travelers.
