Bright has a population of about 2,000. It was a gold rush town in the 1850s and later became a quiet resort with tourism as its main industry. Every year in late April, the town is dyed with a layer of color by the autumn wind, as if entering a fairy tale world. During the Bright Autumn Festival, the town's gardens will be open to the public. Each garden has a different theme. During the ten-day weekend, the town center will be closed for a parade. The Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum is one of the most popular museums worldwide, housing numerous aviation and space artifacts that have shaped human civilization. As a pilgrimage site for human flight, it showcases core technological leaps from the Wright brothers' wooden airplane to the Apollo program's lunar module. A 3.5-hour visit will take you through key original artifacts and space models in aviation history, allowing you to experience the great journey of conquering the sky and space. These exhibits collectively outline humanity’s early steps into space. Notes Ticket Reservation: All visitors must hold a free timed-entry ticket for their visit slot. Reservations are usually released in batches 30 days in advance, with a maximum of 9 tickets per person. Exhibit Hall Status: As of now, 13 exhibit halls have been renovated and reopened. The remaining 7 halls will open gradually throughout 2026, with 5 scheduled for July 1 and the last 2 expected to be completed in the fall. By year-end, the entire museum renovation will be complete. The upper and lower falls each have their own charm both perfect spots to sit, relax, and soak in nature’s beauty. When I finally reached the falls, the sight was mesmerizing, crystal-clear water cascading into serene rock pools surrounded by mossy cliffs. I dipped my feet into the cool water and simply soaked in the stillness. The upper and lower falls each offered their own charm and sense of solitude. The colors of this season are stunning, with coordinated leaf colors lighting up the Alpine valleys, a stunning visual reminder that nature is still alive and well in this part of the world. 5 reasons to visit Bright in autumn: Autumn colours The colours that mark the arrival of autumn sweep across the Alpine Valley, from Wangaratta all the way up the mountains to Beechworth and Bright. The colors start changing in April and continue through May and into winter. Smaller Crowds As the weather cools and the Easter holiday comes to an end, the holiday crowds slowly dissipate. May is still a very busy time in the area, but it doesn’t seem to have the same overwhelming crowds as the warmer months of March and April. Summers in northeast Victoria can be very hot. Fall is pretty much perfect as far as weather is concerned. Although the weather will change with gradually cooler weather, the bright sunshine is amazing. Small town accommodation During the summer peak season, the best accommodations are often booked up 12 months in advance. Finding the right place to stay in this small town can be difficult. Postponing your trip until the fall means more options for where to stay. Rich autumn activities Bright and the surrounding area always have a busy calendar of activities. Myrtleford hosts La Fiera Italian Festival every May. The Mingqiu Festival is of course held in the autumn of each year. The festival is held when the bright autumn colors are at their peak. It features open gardens, farm tours, arts and crafts exhibits, street parades and music. The Highland Feast Festival also takes place every autumn (usually!). A two-week celebration of regional food and drink, featuring more than 40 events. No place better than Bright to enjoy Victorian autumn colour. If accommodations are too expensive you can stay at Albury or Wodonga which is about an hour away.

#australiatrip Absolutely gorgeous views! A lot of cars just whip past this lookout, but it’s 100% worth stopping! You get a panoramic view of the surrounding alpine region, including The Horn (Mount Buffalo) and The Cathedrals. Just bring a jacket, as it’s always windy here (even in summer) What a beautiful scenic drive on my way back from Melbourne to Shepparton through Great Alpine Road. Stopped at Danny's Lookout point and amazing mountain views.
