The world's longest castle, snow-covered Burghausen in Germany.
This is the winter scenery of Burghausen Castle located in Bavaria, Germany. True to its title as the world's longest castle, the vast scale of the fortress stretches endlessly along the ridge, so much so that it cannot be fully captured in a single photo.
Passing through the rounded-roof castle gate into the courtyard offers a completely different impression compared to the view from outside. The rough stone walls are accompanied by unique, old wooden staircases covered with roofs, giving the feeling of stepping back into the medieval knight era. As you venture further inside, arch-shaped passageways connect the old stone buildings, and roofed staircases remain intact, creating a slightly different atmosphere in each section. Simply walking slowly through the snow-covered courtyard allows you to fully experience the charm of a winter fortress.
Rather than being a castle with lavish interior decorations, it’s a place where you can enjoy the old stone walls and architectural structures, making it perfect for a quiet stroll.
💡 As the world's longest castle (with a total length of over 1 km), it’s more spacious than you might expect. If you plan to explore the entire castle in winter, make sure to dress warmly.

Germany here is the world's longest castle town Burghausen, hurry up and save it
In contrast, Germany 🇩🇪 is a major European country that I have visited less frequently.
During my total of 3 trips to Germany, the most impressive were the 'Three Castles of Germany' (Rothenburg, Heidelberg, and Neuschwanstein Castle).
The town I am sharing today is a pleasant surprise on a trip to Bavaria.
It is Burghausen, located on the border between Germany 🇩🇪 and Austria.
Here lies the world's longest existing medieval castle, Burghausen Castle 🏰.
The castle is about 3 miles long and was built during the Holy Roman Empire in the Middle Ages.
Later, it became the residence of many dukes and nobles in Bavaria.
In Burghausen, we can reach Austria 🇦🇹 in one minute, as it is only separated by a bridge.
✅Transportation Guide🚞
The best way is to drive, as Burghausen's transportation is inconvenient.
We took the train 🚄 from Austria at that time.
Take the train from Salzburg/Munich to the German border city of Freilassing,
then transfer to a bus directly to Burghausen.
❇️If you drive, you will see the most beautiful countryside and wheat fields in Eastern Bavaria.
Along the way, there are three other small towns (Laufen, Fridolfing, Tittmoning) that you can check in together.
✅The 9 most beautiful spots in Burghausen
1️⃣Burghausen Castle, one of the world's 100 greatest buildings and the longest castle.
2️⃣Burgfenster Burghausen, where you can take a panoramic view of the castle.
3️⃣Johannes Thurmayer Haus
4️⃣Weltlängste Burg
5️⃣Aussichtspunkt auf Burghausen
This spot is on the opposite side in Austria 🇦🇹.
6️⃣Pfarrkirche St. Jakob
7️⃣Altstadtbogen
Many small shops and vintage stores are worth visiting.
8️⃣Burghausen Altstadt
9️⃣Bruckgasse
The border bridge, the middle of the bridge is the boundary line between the two countries.
✅TIPS:
Although Burghausen is not big, it is recommended to stay here for one night.
We stayed at Hotel Burgblick, by the river, with a great view. You can see the castle and the town's panorama when you open the window.
