2026 Buruli Travel Guide: must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transport & travel experiences (updated in September)

We had a terrific experience visiting Mabamba Swamp, Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, Murchison Falls, Kibale, Queen Elizabeth, Bwindi, Lake Mburo, and Kampala. Our guide and driver, David Magoomu, who navigated the Toyota LandCruiser safari car, was excellent, and we highly recommend him. The 14-day safari journey, along with one day in Kampala, allowed for occasional mornings or afternoons off, so it could be done in fewer days. We enjoyed game drives with our own guide while other activities, such as boat safaris, walking tours, and mountain biking, were conducted with local guides. Gorilla trekking was undoubtedly the most memorable part of the trip. The lodges provided good accommodation and offered a high level of service, especially Gorilla Leisure Lodge, which excelled in client service with attentive staff like Hassan. The roads in Uganda were in good condition overall, with minimal potholes, except for the sand roads. The booking process was facilitated by Nadia, whose helpful communication convinced us to choose this travel agency over others. Additionally, the SGR guarantee, ensuring protection in case of bankruptcy, played a significant role in our decision. We would wholeheartedly recommend this trip and, especially, our wonderful guide David.

I had a great experience with the Uganda, Mukono placement. Initially, I planned to do a hospital placement but later switched to help build a women’s resource and empowerment center for the community. This project was initiated by Sandra, who is passionate about helping Ugandan women gain skills to support themselves and their children. Our coordinator in Uganda was Isaac, and both he and Sandra were friendly, welcoming, and incredibly helpful. We had a fantastic time, and alongside the volunteering, we booked trips to the rhino park, Jinja, and the Nile’s source. The accommodation was basic but comfortable, and the staff were always friendly and extremely helpful. It was reassuring to know that a good portion of the money paid to volunteer supports the local people, and there are also opportunities to fundraise for various projects. While email communication with the company could be slightly improved, all my questions were answered, and everything went smoothly. Overall, it’s a fantastic way to contribute while exploring new places! Our experience in Uganda at Mukono was unforgettable, and I certainly look forward to returning.
