Cabourg: The Sparkling Gem of Normandy ✨
If you want that golden, slow-burn magic of the French seaside, Cabourg totally delivers. Here’s my take on why this little slice of Normandy is worth your travel bucket list — especially for a dreamy day at Plage de Cabourg! 🌊
Top Spot to Visit
Plage de Cabourg — Prom. Marcel Proust, 14390 Cabourg, France
Insanely long, sandy beach with major sunset potential. Best thing? It’s open all day, year round, so you can pick your vibe: crisp morning walks, lazy afternoon sunbathing, or even a late-night wander along the promenade. Families, solo travelers, or couples — it’s stress-free, snob-free, and full of chill.
My tips: Bring a picnic and snag your spot early for those iconic sunrise or sunset moments! The promenade is super photogenic and perfect for people-watching (or pretending you’re in a retro French movie).
Getting There & Around
Getting to Cabourg is easy by regional train, but once you’re in town, you’re set — the main sights, beach, and restaurants are all walkable. No car rentals or taxis needed: this is pure, breezy, shoes-off vacation mode!
Where & What to Eat
Sample some local galettes (savory crêpes) or fresh seafood at the bistros near the promenade — you literally can’t go wrong with anything ocean-facing.
Quick Tips
No tickets needed for the beach, just bring your sunscreen and a book. ATMs are in town, and most places take cards, but having some euros can help for beach snacks.

Road Trip to the Faithful Waterborne Cathedral: Mont Saint-Michel
Exploring the western side of France by car is one of the best experiences, especially starting a bright morning at Le Grand Hôtel Cabourg and heading towards one of the wonders of the world, Mont Saint-Michel.
🚗 Road Trip Experience
· The Route: Drive from Cabourg heading west, taking approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes through lush green fields and authentic Normandy farms.
· The Walk (My Choice): Upon reaching the parking area, instead of taking the shuttle bus like others, I decided to "walk" across the 2-kilometer-long bridge. Walking allowed me to see the abbey gradually grow larger in front of me, enjoy the sea breeze, and capture stunning distant views that are far better than from the bus. It was a peaceful and truly rewarding moment.
🏰 Delving into History: The Marvel of Faith
Mont Saint-Michel is not just a beautiful abbey but has a history spanning over 1,300 years:
· Origin from a Vision: According to legend, in 708 AD, Saint Aubert, Bishop of Avranches, dreamt of Archangel Michael instructing him to build a church on this rocky island.
· The Unbreakable Fortress: During the Hundred Years' War, the English attempted to attack this site multiple times but failed due to its island location and the rapid and strong tides.
· UNESCO World Heritage Site: Mont Saint-Michel was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979, with its multi-layered Gothic architecture earning it the nickname "The Wonder of the West."
✨ Feelings Upon Arrival
As soon as you step inside the city walls, it feels like you've been transported to the Middle Ages. Narrow alleys filled with shops and a historical atmosphere lead you to the top of the abbey. The view from the highest point, overlooking the bay during low tide, is truly indescribable.
💡 Travel Tips:
1. Check the Tide: Make sure to check the tide schedule in advance.
2. Comfortable Shoes: If you choose to walk across the bridge like I did, comfortable walking shoes are essential.
3. Stay at Grand Hôtel: Staying in Cabourg before starting the trip ensures a relaxed beginning.
Summary: 10/10 - A perfect blend of history, architecture, and natural beauty. This is a trip you must experience at least once in your lifetime! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

🇫🇷 Cabourg: The enchanting Normandy that has stood the test of time in a photograph.
If you want to experience an authentic French vacation, I highly recommend a trip to Cabourg, a beautiful seaside city that looks like a painting. Staying in a historic hotel will make this trip even more perfect.
Travel (Paris -> Cabourg)
Convenient and with beautiful scenery along the way:
· Train: From Paris Saint-Lazare station, take the train to Caen station (approximately 2 hours).
· Bus: From the train station, take the Nomad Line 111 bus and get off at the Hôtel de Ville stop in Cabourg city center.
Accommodation: Le Grand Hôtel Cabourg - MGallery
Staying here is the highlight of the trip:
· Historical charm: This hotel is located on the beach and was a favorite spot of the famous writer Marcel Proust. The building is opulent and perfectly preserves the classic Belle Époque style.
· Atmosphere: From the hotel balcony, you'll have expansive beach views and the soothing sound of waves. The rooms are peaceful and the service is excellent.
As you can see from the pictures, the city is full of buildings in the Belle Époque style... The distinctive half-timbered roofs, the twilight sky contrasting with the warm lights of the cafes and handicraft shops along the street make for a truly romantic stroll after checking into the Grand Hôtel.
In summary: This city is perfect for unwinding and recharging. Walking from the Grand Hôtel onto the main street is an experience everyone should try.
Special Impression:
"Waking up and sipping coffee by the window at the Grand Hôtel, gazing out at the Normandy beaches and azure sky, was truly worth the trip."
