In Cadaqués (or rather, the town that flows smoothly into the village of Port Lligat) is the house where Salvador Dalí lived with Gala. The train to Figueres departs from Sants train station; the journey takes just under an hour. There's a taxi stand and a bus station right next to Figueres train station. We learned about taxis—they cost 70 euros to Cadaqués—but we regretted it and bought a bus ticket departing at 1:00 PM. Until then, we wandered around Figueres. We traveled to Cadaqués and back by bus, half the way along a stunning mountain road, the journey time being an hour and a half. We immediately bought a return ticket, as the last bus left at 6:00 PM, and it gets dark after that. Even taxi drivers don't take us in the dark; they told us it's dangerous. We arrived in Cadaqués, where we had several options: find and take an electric car to Cap de Creus (the easternmost point of the Pyrenees), take a taxi to Salvador Dalí's house, or walk to the house. We chose the latter. The walk from the bus station to Salvador Dalí's house in Port Ligat took about 25 minutes, using MapsMe. It's a beautiful town with white houses, somewhat reminiscent of Santorini, Greece, but more down-to-earth, perhaps. In front of Salvador Dalí's house sits what is believed to be an original boat with a tree growing inside it. It was in this house on the seashore that Salvador Dalí spent what he considered his happiest days with Gala. Entry to the house-museum is only possible with a group ticket, and tickets must be purchased two months in advance. This is because groups are scheduled once an hour and are limited to 8-10 people. The house is small, so there's not much room to move around. You can walk around the grounds, the garden, for free. While we were exploring, I saw boats at the pier and rushed there (I love seeing everything from the water!) It turns out there's a 90-minute boat trip to Cape Cadaqués. And it returns just before 5:30! Of course, we jumped on it. We changed into our swimsuits and headed for the boat! There were 10 of us, and we stopped for a swim in the sea and swam into a small cove under the rocks. I saw sea urchins and a starfish in their natural habitat for the first time in my life! The trip was truly unforgettable! It consists of a nave with a small chapel, a polygonal seven-sided apse, and a square base and octagonal upper body bell tower. Surprisingly, the entire exterior of the church is white, which is a typical feature of famous maritime towns like Cadaqués. Santa María de Cadaqués Church is located at the highest point of the town on the Costa Brava, and is closely related to the life and work of Salvador Dalí. Its square is also one of the best views overlooking the bay of the town. Although the church was originally built in the 13th century, it was plundered by Saracen pirates (specifically Turkish pirate Barbarossa) in 1543, forcing it to be rebuilt in the following years, so the current Gothic architecture has been preserved since the 16th century. To enter the church and admire its beautiful scenery, we must walk up the steep white streets of Cadaqués. Cadaqués is a city in AltEmpordà located on the Cap de Creus coast. The old town forms a protected historical site and is a cultural asset of national interest. As a tourist town, I feel that it lacks a sense of history and has not left much historical trace. It is just a gimmick to attract people's attention by painting all the houses white, but white towns are common in Andalusia in southern Spain. There is only Dalí's former residence for people to visit, which I think is not very attractive. The town's external transportation is very inconvenient, with few buses from the nearby transportation hub Figueres to here. If you want to spend a day taking photos, it may be worth it, but if you come for tourism and scenery, it is not a very suitable place. Many years ago, Cadaqués was chosen by many artists and intellectuals to spend short or long quiet seasons, which gave it a high reputation, especially in the circles of painters and visual artists. At the highest point in the old town is the Church of Santa Maria. This is a late Gothic building, which began in the mid-16th century and was completed in the 18th century. Inside, we find a huge Baroque wooden altar, designed by Jacint Moretó and manufactured by Pau Costa in 1725 and gilded in 1788. The relationship between Cadaqués and art was established through the painter Salvador Dalí, who, although born in Figueres, was connected to the nearby Portlligat Bay, where he built his curious residence in the 1940s. It is the easternmost town in Catalonia (and the Iberian Peninsula) and the Empordà region. The autonomous municipality occupies most of the eastern coast of the Cap de Creus peninsula. Cadaqués is isolated from the rest of Alt Empordà by the Pení Mountains, facing the sea, and was not separated from the rest of the region (by land) until the end of the 19th century. This is a village where we can find small lithium mica. Cadaqués municipality extends all the way to the easternmost point of the Cap de Creus Peninsula, which is the easternmost point of the Iberian Peninsula. These areas, from the west of the old town (in the middle of Llané Gran) to the east (behind the houses on Carrer de Colom), are also included in this historical range. To understand the history of Cadaqués, one must visit the old town and get lost in the maze. The medieval origin of the small town, surrounded by walls, occupied the space of today's Cadaqués historical center. Currently, only the old fortress, which was once part of the isolation wall and is now part of the city council, is preserved. Walking through the old town, travelers can step on the village's old pavement, the rastell. This type of sidewalk is made of stones extracted from the sea, formed by the oscillation of the waves. The narrow Carrer des Call is the road that best preserves the authentic rastell pavement of the village. It takes the form of spikes, designed to absorb moisture and prevent people from slipping.
